### 3/5 — Camera/scan issue

*2026-01-11, version 1.5.7*

For some reason the camera is not coming up. It worked yesterday and was able to scan 15 labels but now it’s not working

### 4/5 — pretty solid

*2025-07-04, version 1.5.7*

love totescan and using this, but no longer able to scan barcodes to add an item. it just immediately closes the app. everything else is great though.

### 2/5 — Ok, but needs work

*2025-05-26, version 1.5.6*

I’m using these to catalog my comic boxes and have a number of places this app needs updates. If they fixed these issues it would be pretty solid.

1-Most importantly you can’t manually organize your items.

2-Saving the item after entry takes an honest 5 secs. If you’re cataloging 100 or more items you’re wasting at least 9 minutes total just waiting for entries to save. This is NOT due to wifi or internet service location. This is the app taking too long to store the data.

3-You can’t print your tote list at your convenience. You have to email a request for your list. This is just weird and not helpful.

4-Once you scan a label it can’t be removed from your tote list without permanently deleting it. Weird.

### 3/5 — Good But needs a few revisions

*2025-05-15, version 1.5.6*

Love that I can organize my totes and , add pictures, and love that if you have a barcode it will search and find the item if it is available, however, I do not like that I cannot print out a hard copy of my inventory myself ( it does have the option for you to request your inventory be emailed to you) not very good if you are adding and removing items from
Your totes frequently and need an updated copy. Also, would love to be able to scroll through the pictures. Also, would like more freedom in editing the size of the labels..I purchased the 4x6 labels and then found that they didn’t fit quite like I wanted them to and decided that I would rather have a sleeve to put the QR code into so that I could change the totes out if needed, so would like to have more freedom with that. It would also be nice if you could choose which heading would be priority when seeing your totes listed…

### 4/5 — Loving the App! Organizing Made Easy

*2025-01-18, version 1.5.6*

I just started using this system last night, - putting away Halloween Decor and getting Thanksgiving/Christmas out - and am thoroughly impressed. But what’s more impressive is I came here to offer a review and feedback and noticed that MANY of the other suggestions in other reviews have already been implemented by the developer. Kudos!

FEEDBACK: It would be helpful if the consumer could have an option to color code their tote codes/names, as shown in the My Totes List. For instance: Red could indicate the tote is filled to capacity. Green could indicate there is still space available for things to be added. Perhaps even Blue to indicate that a box is ready for moving/shipping.

Otherwise, I’d give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. It’s been a HUGE help!

SECOND EDIT: Still LOVING this app/system. One more request to make it perfection: An IN/OUT toggle switch on each item. For example: This could be used for instances of holiday decor. Think ornaments . . . It would be amazing to be able to mark the contents as “out” once unpacked and on the tree. Then, at the end of the season, to be able to mark each ornament as “in” so you are sure you aren’t missing anything.

Bonus: To be able to mark the entire contents as “in” or “out,” either all at once, or individually.

### 3/5 — Very Good, Not Excellent

*2024-03-14, version 1.4.9*

The Pros:
1. Easy to set up
2. Can use multiple pictures for each entry
3. Easy to “move” totes between locations
4. Easy to add or subtract items, or move items between totes

The Cons:
1. Search only pulls up to 50 items based on, I’m gathering, the first 50 items entered. Therefore, anything past this number is just in the ether. As a collector of Jim Shore collectible figurines, I assure you I have more than 50 in various totes in various locations. (Don’t tell my husband.)
2. Along the search line, it’s unclear whether regular Boolean search queries work or not. I haven’t tried, but then again, there is little information out there, either. The con is a lack of instruction on using the app, which I guess is the UI/UX.
3. Nowadays, if I know I’ll probably want to use an app on my iPad, I won’t even download an iPhone only app. It’s time to have a true iPad version, plus usable for the Mac or PC.
4. Which leads to the fourth con - you should be able to run a sort and then print from your Mac or PC. It’s an extra step to receive the data in a format that needs to be then dumped into excel, then sorted and printed.

I don’t normally review apps but this is one I do use a lot. The labels are cheap to buy, so that’s the main revenue stream, but fixing the app would go a very long way for those of us who aren’t as clever as more computer literate folks out there (who have discovered using other programs like airtable). I would sing the praises if you’d get your UI/UX fixed.

### 5/5 — Purchase of the year

*2023-10-26, version 1.4.8*

This is a long review, but I think y’all will appreciate the content.

Wanting to organize multiple areas in my home, I ordered ToteScan. I couldn’t be happier with the product.

I’ve linked ToteScan with Alexa, and after receiving excellent, and prompt, customer support via email, I learned how to properly phrase a question. For example “find star bit screws” pulled up all my star bit screws. Before contacting customer support I was saying “find my star but screws”, which didn’t work. Customer support also informed me that you can speak the keywords you input in any order to find you items, which is helpful.

You have an option to make your ToteScan QR codes private or public. Because your information is stored in the cloud, anyone in my family can scan the QR code that is public with their camera and click the open QR code through their browser and it brings up the contents with pictures. Because there are no duplicate QR codes sold, I’m comfortable with making my totes “public”. I REALLY like this feature, and have included a small video to demonstrate.

As for reviews that said that QR codes are hard to find by themselves (they ARE), I purchased some 1 inch stickers that have 124 letters and numbers and logically assigned a letter and number to each tote. (H 1 for my hardware tote, B 1 for my bathroom, etc.) The stickers are cheap and easy to use and see.

Finally, use consistent naming protocols to make your product easier. When using text search or Alexa, some items initially didn’t come up so I looked to make sure I used the same labeling terms. Editing was easy, and I then was able to name each successive tote contents thoughtfully and logically.

We had to repair a door that wasn’t hanging properly, and I was SO PLEASED to search for my 3 1/2 inch star bit screws, and know exactly where they were. (I have a large container that held Parmesan, and I put several items inside it, and specified in the naming that’s where they were 🙂. )

I am completely confident that I will purchase more QR codes through ToteScan. I’ve already told several family members how wonderful a product it is, and will continue to do so.

I highly recommend this product.

### 5/5 — Response to Zenman

*2023-05-17, version 1.4.8*

To close a picture on iOS just swipe up

### 5/5 — Love it

*2023-02-25, version 1.4.6*

This is so great. I can never remember where things are so this is perfect for me

### 5/5 — Simple, but works well!

*2023-02-15, version 1.4.6*

I love this app! We have used it for years in our home and are now using it for an upcoming move. It’s easy to use, not the best UI, but it works great for what we need.

### 2/5 — Inaccurate Sorting

*2023-02-04, version 1.4.4*

It’s an okay item for what it does. This app however, has a serious glitch in the iOS version: While it lets you add photos to your labeled items, if you open a photo attached to said label you can’t scroll through the different photos for the same label number. Worst of all, they’ve designed the app with no exit option from the photo, so you’re left with choice but to close the app entirely and start again instead of simply closing the photo and backing out to another label (or checking other pictures under the same label). For this reason, I suggest looking at other similar labeling systems as i have no confidence in developers who have such a glaring deficiency in their app.

This app does about average for helping build a record of where your stuff is. It’s a total failure when you need to sort your labels by date, alphabetical order as it’s always wrong and puts the most recently added in the middle when sitting by date. And you can forget this app sorting the alphabet accurately either in ascending or descending order. Also, there’s no way to sort your labels separately by location as it lumps all locations (basement, attic, garage, etc) together when trying to sort alphabetically, Date or location.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Strictly Proprietary, AND Spam Happy

*2026-02-04, version 1.5.7*

Beware! You can NOT create room names, bc locked into this label maker’s generic names. eg Converted a spare bedroom into a ChillZone, but gotta use Bedroom 1,2,3 etc. Ditto another BR converted to ClosetRoom. Add: IMMEDIATE receipt of 2 eMails. A much friendlier option → Boxes. ← No relation, just appreciate the obvious intelligence & class employed.

### 1/5 — No Image

*2025-10-06*

This app used to work great when I was packing up boxes for a recent move. I took pictures of most everything which showed in the app. Just before the move, the images stopped showing up. Now that we have move across the US, I have to guess what is in each box. I contacted customer support, who did reply, but their suggestions did not fix the problem.

### 1/5 — Bait & Switch

*2025-07-15, version 1.5.7*

In order to use the app, you must buy their QR code labels. There is no option to assign custom box numbers or anything. If you don’t buy and use their proprietary labels, you can’t use the app…

### 1/5 — Clunky, poorly designed

*2025-02-09, version 1.5.6*

I can’t be bothered. Its interface design is terrible- not user friendly, unable to share on my desktop/laptop. No thanks.

### 1/5 — Why do you need my email?!

*2024-06-14, version 1.5.4*

Okay so I didn't like that I needed to give you my email and it required a confirmation code, but I did it anyways... but then the code either takes forever or just didn't send. I'm not trying to deal with all this hassle for an app that doesn't need to be online.

### 1/5 — Items Disappear from App

*2024-05-08, version 1.5.1*

This worked great for a good while but now all the items added from several of my totes are no longer in the app.

### 1/5 — How did this pass AppStore review?

*2024-04-14, version 1.5.1*

You cannot use the app unless you purchase their proprietary labels in-app.

### 1/5 — App stops working

*2023-05-04, version 1.4.8*

In the middle of adding items and packing, the app stopped working. Couldn’t see my items and couldn’t add. Have to stop packing until I can get the app to work

### 1/5 — Great idea, terrible execution

*2023-01-31, version 1.4.4*

I have tried multiple times over many months to make this app useful, hoping that updates will finally make it usable. Nope. The interface is so dumb in so many ways that it’s impossible to describe. The designer might be able to write code but, boy, do they know nothing about interface design/usability.

Put together a team of people who have never seen this app, watch their struggles, TAKE NOTES, and then fix it it! Or just give up, because it’s unusable in its current state.

### 1/5 — Useless w/o internet

*2022-08-16, version 1.4.0*

If you don’t have internet, you can not access your inventory of totes…talk about furious as $&;!
It took being outa service & figured this 1 out!!!

What a waste of hours of work if I can use it any time I need it wherever I go to store stuff.

Major deal breaker!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great for Storage Organizing

*2026-01-18, version 1.5.7*

This app is easy to use and great way to catalog items in storage totes or boxes. It’s very intuitive so doesn’t take long at all to get the hang of it! Recommending that they add a field to identify the type of container to more quickly identify where item is located (cardboard box, tote, shelf, etc)

### 5/5 — Great app for moving

*2025-10-21, version 1.5.7*

A lot of the negative reviews seem really out of date. I’m using this app to keep track of what’s in each box I pack and I really love it. The QR codes seem like a good deal given that the app itself is free to use. I like that I can take pictures of the items and write descriptions, or just scan a barcode if the item has one and all the data pre-populates. Very handy!

### 5/5 — Great organization tool

*2025-07-19, version 1.5.7*

Tons of totes … no longer lose stuff

### 5/5 — Great App - Room for improvement , Developers do listen to its users on future ideas

*2025-04-01, version 1.5.6*

This is a great app, does have room for improvement, but the develops listen, and response time for support is fast !!

### 5/5 — Love it

*2024-12-18, version 1.5.6*

Great buy

### 5/5 — Best thing since sliced bread

*2024-08-29, version 1.5.5*

If I could give a 10 star I would. I have lots of holiday decorations. I now know where everything is. If I am looking for one certain item I can ask my app and it will tell me what location, what shelf, which box and then show me pics inside the box. I now have labeled every box in every closet (not just decorations but books, clothes, and even junk) Nothing will ever be lost again.

### 5/5 — Review, bug report & feature request

*2024-08-21, version 1.5.5*

Been using the app for a few days and like it for its simplicity.
Bug 1: If I enter the quantity greater than 1 and add a photo after, the quantity goes to 1.
Bug 2: The number of items listed in the tote description does not take into account the quantity you enter for an item. Example: if I enter plates, bowls, and mugs and I have 3 of each, the tote details says 3 items even though there’s 9 pieces.
Feature request: When listing the Totes, please add the number of items/total items in the tote to the line with the XXXXX identifier.

### 5/5 — Game changer!

*2024-06-30, version 1.5.5*

How often have we all said “I have one of those, I just don’t know where I put it”? That never happens to me now. I know exactly where I store things. ToteScans has been a game changer for me! The labels are not just for totes and storage bins. I have one on each of my closets as well as my outside storage unit. The app works perfectly too. I give ToteScans 10 stars.

### 5/5 — Fantastic, and really easy to use

*2024-01-21*

I downloaded this app after having 10-12 bins full of tools and bits and pieces.

I knew I had stuff but couldn’t find it. It got the point I would just go buy another if I couldn’t find it after a couple of minutes.

Which explains why I have 4 cans of engine degreaser.

Buy QR codes through the app ( very cheap) attach one to you bin. The purchasees QR code is then in your app. Tap it, name it (eg Boat maintenance) Itemise each item and take a photo to upload as well if you want.

Whats really cool is that when you type in the main search bar what you want eg, engine degreaser, the app tells you which bin, box, container or draw its in.

That means you dont have to troll through your lists of inventory bin by bin

Very intuitive to use.

I Cant recommend this app highly enough!!

### 5/5 — I’ve been using this for my eBay business for years.

*2023-10-29, version 1.4.8*

The only failure was when I forgot my email address to log in. Contacted support and was back on track in about an hour.

I highly recommend.
