They love this app! Being able to choose the color scheme that they can see best is great for my students! ### 5/5 — squiggly squelchy slippery fun! *2012-06-19* I am LOVING this app! I'm a new user of iPad apps and in the last 2wks of trawling, I have discovered that just about my number 1 priority with an app is customisability. It's brilliant how I can add my OWN word lists (which at this stage is just the letters of my daughter's name and her name). It's fantastic that we can make this RELEVANT LEARNING and not just arbitrary drawing of lines on paper (letters that are not relevant in her life right now). She LOVES the different backgrounds and writing materials. We use finger and stylus to write with and the repetitiveness of the activity is helping the letters of her name finally sink in! Thank you FizzBrain and thank you A4CWSN for putting us onto this app. ### 5/5 — Really wonderful for beginner writers *2012-06-14* My three year old loves this app. It has improved his accuracy in letter formation. We love that you can also add your own words so you can teach them to write their own names and other words that interest them in order to get them practicing their letters. The music is well chosen and not annoying. The idea of writing with food is so great--it's not crucial to the writing, but it just makes it so much more fun for the child. My son's favorite is to write on Cheerios background using ketchup :-). I would recommend this to all pre-K and K kids. Once my son is more proficient with the letters we will encourage him to practice with a stylus so that it becomes more like writing with a pen (of course we will also have him write on proper paper with a proper pen!) ### 5/5 — Very engaging *2012-06-10, version 1.3* I am an OT working in a school district. This is one of my "go to" apps for practicing letter formation and the kids love it. Thanks for the updates! They also love choosing the paper and the music, and they are crazy about the animal papers. We love the monster eating his cupcakes! I love the variety of "writing" materials that can be used. I also love how you can practice letters in lowercase, uppercase, and in words. Both of my boys, 10 and 4, with ASD, are having so much fun practicing their writing. This was a really fun idea. I like that you are stopped if you try and trace the letters or numbers the wrong way. In the next update could you add an option to repeat a letter or number before moving on to the next one? ### 5/5 — *love* *2012-05-12* Touch and Write has moved to the top of my list for learning to write. It's extremely fun for my 4 year-old with classic autism and the easiest app for me to customize! I have been telling everyone about it! We have added a list called "family" where he can practice his name as well as his siblings and of course, Mommy and Daddy. Brilliant! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Buggy, therefore useless! *2023-07-18* Paid 4.99 for something that clearly hasn’t been tested and also noted in reviews of other Touch and Write apps. No matter how careful one writes, you’re forced to restart. Leniency mode does nothing, can’t finish a single letter. ### 3/5 — Crash iPad *2012-05-15, version 1.1* It crashed my iPad 3. It just happened the day it was installed. Then, now it works well. Concept is good. My son likes it. Should add popping balloons for tracing,add more time to pop and eat the cakes.allow voice to be recorded for new words. ### 4/5 — Great app! *2015-09-17* I love this app & the cursive one! I am an OT & use these apps all the time with my kids. The app is very engaging & multi-sensory. I really like the fact that you can add your own word list & customize it. The only thing I would change is that I wish the lines on the dotted lined background would be colored accordingly; the top line-green, dotted line-blue & the bottom line- red. The kids LoVe it! ### 4/5 — Excellent app but sound doesn't work anymore *2013-10-13, version 3.0* My child's occupational therapist recommended this app, and it has proven to be effective. Kids think it is fun. But I believe after I installed iOS 7, the sound no longer works; the cute music no longer plays, or we are unable to hear it. I have another iPad and it does play on that iPad but strangely enough I loaded iOS 7 on that iPad too. ### 4/5 — Great for formation - lacks sounds *2012-10-09* I agree that this app is great. But I also wish it included phonetic sounds. My struggling kindergarteners use this to practice writing but hearing "a /a/" would be even more helpful. I also wish there was a setting option to have the cupcake monster show up less frequently - like at the end of the alphabet instead of after every letter - to maximize learning time. Thank you! ### 4/5 — Fun options *2012-10-08* Love everything about this except that it doesn't give you a page with all the letters presented to choose one from, you have to go through the ABC sequence or else make your own letter list, which takes extra time. I use the background that has the writing lines and would like it if the child could see if they touched the lines or went over the lines when they finished the letter. Love the customizable features that let me create my students names just for them, or practice on just one letter they are struggling with. p.s. Hope the developer can keep it updated so it keeps working with the latest IOS (v18 as of 2025) ### 5/5 — Fun and very helpful! *2020-07-12* I had low expectations because of the lack of and age of reviews, but I’m glad I tried it. This app is fantastic, I love that I can easily add custom lists. My son loves to play it, all the writing tools to choose from is fun. It also guides to make sure the letters are being written properly, it will stop and have you start over. This is far and away the most engaging and motivating one. My students ask to use it. Love it ### 5/5 — Touch and Write *2012-11-13* This was always a fun learning app for kids but since the update, with the option of selecting phonic sounds instead of letter names, it has become a fantastic reading and writing resource. Kids really enjoy writing in ketchup etc. and this app teaches correct letter formation as well as phonic development. Excellent all round!!! ### 5/5 — Excellent update....... *2012-11-01* I love this app and I love the features of adding words&numbers, When I added numbers and words it was only spelling out, but it was not saying the word so I emailed to the developer and ask him to add an option where we can also hear the word of the list we created and also asked him if we can add numbers 1-50 instead of 1-10. The fizz brain genius responded to my request and promise to work on it in summer,and he did it. In this new update not only that we can add 1-100 numbers but also we can add words and after writing we can hear the word we wrote. And one more feature added the letter sound we have the option to turn on the letter sound or turn it off if we want. Thank you for making education fun and easy by making this app. No doubt they listen and take seriously our feed back , thank you for this great update. ### 5/5 — Delightful way to learn and practice letter formations! *2012-10-23* I love this app and am amazed how motivating this app is for students who do not enjoy learning to write letters! Children who typically do not demonstrate good motor control, will work slowly and carefully to trace the letters accurately. Using a stylus allows for working on grasp patterns for pencils and other writing utensils. The ability to create individualized word/letter families makes its use more efficient and tailored to a student's needs. The music is a little wearing, so having the ability to turn it off is a good thing, especially for students who are easily distracted or have a low tolerance for sounds. Love the paper backgrounds, whipped cream, sound effects, and the method of correcting errors in stroke sequence. I could go on and on listing all the benefits! As a school-based OT, this app has made my therapy sessions much more fun and very beneficial. Thanks for this great learning and teaching tool!! ### 5/5 — Handwriting app *2012-08-25* I have both this app and their cursive. As a school OT I love this app. My students spend the time practicing their handwriting. My students love the monsters, cupcakes and the balloons. I can use pencil grips on a stylus pen or their finger. Practicing makes perfect. It reinforces and generalizes the skills my child with autism is learning at school. I love that you can make your own custom list to practice writing. The only thing that could make this better is we had the ability to make the letters smaller as the child became accomplished at this size.
