## What is TowForge?

TowForge puts your towing company's entire operation in your pocket. Built for dispatchers, drivers, managers, and owners who run their business on TowForge, the app keeps the whole team on one live board — from the first call to the final payment.

LIVE DISPATCH BOARD
See every active call grouped by status, updated in real time on every device. Create calls in seconds with saved-address suggestions, address autocomplete, and make/model pickers for light-duty, heavy-duty, and equipment jobs. Assign drivers and crews, advance statuses with one tap, and follow multi-stop runs leg by leg. Dispatchers who also drive can switch between the full board and just their own calls.

BUILT FOR DRIVERS
Drivers see their assigned calls with one-tap turn-by-turn navigation in their preferred maps app (Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze), quick actions to call or text the customer, photo capture on scene, and an on-shift availability toggle. Push notifications arrive the moment a call is assigned.

VIN AND VEHICLE TOOLS
Scan a VIN with the camera — barcodes or the printed VIN on a door jamb or windshield — confirm it, and the app fills in year, make, and model automatically. Or look up a license plate to pull the VIN and full vehicle specs without typing.

IMPOUND LOT MANAGEMENT
Every vehicle on your lot with days held, storage accrued, holds, and compliance deadlines — and a release workflow that enforces your company's release requirements.

BILLING ON THE GO
Your accounts-receivable book in your pocket: outstanding, unbilled, and aging balances at a glance. Email or text invoices, record payments, and charge cards securely through your own payment processor — card data never touches TowForge servers.

WORKS THE WAY YOUR COMPANY WORKS
Multi-location company groups share one pooled board, account list, and billing view. Sub-hauler connections let partner companies send jobs to each other and track payouts, with billing always kept separate. Your company's shared address book appears right inside every address field.

RELIABLE IN THE FIELD
Offline-friendly: the board stays readable without signal and queued changes sync automatically when coverage returns. Light and dark themes included.

TowForge is the companion app for TowForge dispatch software. A TowForge company account is required — team members are invited by their company, and there is no public sign-up. Location sharing is used for live driver tracking while on shift and is always visible to the driver. Learn more at towforge.net.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5.1 — 2026-10-02

What's new in 2.5.1

• Drop pins & photo links: Record exactly where a vehicle or piece of equipment was left. Get a precise GPS pin, fine-tune it on a satellite map and pick the photos that show the drop. Each drop gets a shareable link that appears on the invoice. Customers see the location and photos, but never prices or contact details.
• Drop lookup: Search your drops by unit number, VIN, serial or call number. Companies can also publish a search page so customers can find their own vehicle or equipment.
• A sound for every alert: New calls, customer requests, messages and updates each have their own sound. Team chat now uses a soft chime instead of the new-call alert. Preview each sound or switch any of them to your phone's default in Settings.
• Tow requests inbox: Review requests sent from your request link, with photos. Create a call from a request in one tap, or dismiss it.
• Customer messages: Reply to your customer-portal users right from the call. A new inbox shows unread and overdue conversations.
• Map updates: Custom account pins and markers added by your integrations now appear on the map.
• Private property: Choose the property on new and edited calls. During a private-property tow, the app checks the plate against the property's permitted list and warns you before towing a permitted vehicle.
• Call cards now show photo counts and unread customer messages.
• Fixes for periodic issues and general improvements.

### 2.5.0 — 2026-09-20

What's new in 2.5.0

• Exact locations. Drop a pin on the map or use your GPS fix and the call keeps the exact spot. You still see the nearest street address, but Navigate takes you to the precise point in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. Great for shoulders, fields, parking rows and anywhere without an address.

• Text a customer for their location. Dispatchers can send a one-tap location link from the New Call and Edit Call screens. There's no waiting: keep working, and TowForge fills in the pickup and lets you know when the customer responds, or if there's no response after 5 minutes.

• Your calls, and only yours. Drivers now see just the calls they're assigned to on the board and in Completed. Dispatchers and managers still see everything.

• Impound lot for light-duty drivers. Light-duty drivers can now view the lot and each impound's details from the Lot tab.

• Smarter call reasons. The reason list now comes from your company's setup, including account-specific reasons, and it's available in the guided call workflow. Charges tied to a reason or an account are added automatically, and never twice.

• Customer portal requests show a badge on the board, with a quick Accept button for dispatch.

• Address book names now show on calls, the same way they do on the web.

• Fixes and polish, including periodic display issues on some screens.

### 2.4.2 — 2026-09-15

TowForge 2.4.2

General maintenance and Bug Fixes

PHOTOS
• Call photos now upload reliably on weak signal. Photos are resized before sending, retries happen automatically, and any that fail show a clear reason under Settings > Photo queue.

CAMERA & WORKFLOWS
• Close, flashlight and Done buttons no longer sit under the status bar on the camera, New-call and impound screens.

VEHICLES
• New Drive type field (4x4, AWD, FWD, RWD). Plate lookup and VIN decode fill it in, and it shows on the call so you know how to load the vehicle.
• New Odometer field on the primary vehicle (reads as Hours for equipment).

ACCOUNTS
• PO / authorization # field in the Account section on new and edit call. Accounts that require a PO are flagged.

TEXTING
• Text invoice works with formatted phone numbers like (703) 929-2483.
• Call and Text buttons work with any saved number format, including extensions.

ALSO NEW
• En-route mileage switch on new call, plus a quick-add button in the charges editor.
• "Receives monthly statement" switch on account contacts.

### 2.3.2 — 2026-09-10

New guided call workflow
New internal communication features
Scheduling Calendar and PTO request
Driver Stats

### 2.2.4 — 2026-09-07

Dispatch board and calls
Scheduled calls have their own view, off the active board.
View pills scroll; All / Mine are always reachable.
Account pickers search by account name (the shared company suffix no longer matches every account in a linked group).
Quotes (server): Quotes / Approval view, "New quote" from + New, Convert to call from the call detail. In "waiting for approval" mode (web setting) quotes sit at the bottom of the board in a teal lane with teal addresses and a Convert button.
Call notes are individual entries signed with the author's name; anyone on the call or dispatcher-and-up can add or delete (server).
Account notes (gate codes, drop-off instructions) show on every call for that account, above the call notes; never on invoices (server).
Route preview asks the server for the real road route and distance first (fixes iOS routes not loading) (server).
Addresses and location
Every address field (pickup, stops, drop-off, workflows) has a nearest-address button and a map-pin button.
Map pin picker opens on your GPS position (then the company address), with a draggable pin, tap-to-move, address search, and "Use my location".
Guided new-call workflow (server)
Step-by-step intake configured per company on the web: account, customer (ask first), vehicle, pickup (use my location / nearest / typed), drop-off, charges checklist, notes, review.
Charges offered come from the company that owns the chosen account; inline prompts for missing price / hours / days / miles; mileage priced from the rate sheet with server-routed miles.
Headers respect the safe area so Back / Close are usable under the notch.
Charges and billing
Charges are tappable blocks; "Add charge" opens a three-field sheet with rate-sheet suggestions that expand upward; tap a block to edit or delete.
Mileage lines land with real miles (server routing) and show a Recalculate link when a distance is missing; the new-call form shows a mileage estimate before you create the call (server).
Anyone who can see a call can record a payment or remove one, on the call detail and the edit screen (server).
Billing tab: "Open bill" on a call shows line items, payments, charge card, mark billed, email / text invoice, and send history.
Impounds (Lot tab)
Group-pooled lot with linked-company chips; account-scoped storage lots.
Full impound detail screen: police hold, compliance tasks, contact log, modify, storage recalculate, release, reinstate, open call.
Tow out from storage (creates the outbound call) and mark auctioned / disposed (server); closed cards show where the vehicle went.
Release to someone other than the owner: insurance, lienholder, another towing company, salvage, agent, other — with company name (server).
Storage days follow the company setting (calendar days after the grace hours; automatic storage billing) (server).
Impound workflow field fixes (builds 12–13, if not already on the store)
Camera capture race fixed; photo pipeline moved to the legacy file API (blank thumbnails / failed uploads on device).
Every VIN detection is confirmed; stricter VIN OCR; vehicle color no longer clutters board / lot labels; currency shows thousands separators.
Configurable default account for new calls.
Photos
Multi-shot camera for call photos.
Photo queue in Settings: failed uploads are kept locally with the call they belong to and can be retried or removed; auto-retry when back online or on foreground.
Notifications
New forge-hammer sound for dispatch and cancellation alerts (three anvil hits). Settings → Notifications lets each phone choose Forge hammer or System default, with a preview. Requires 2.2.3 or later.
Settings tab
Photo queue section; Notifications section.
