## What is Trace?

See if your skincare is actually doing anything.

Trace turns a daily selfie into four simple numbers, so you can watch your skin over weeks instead of guessing in the mirror every morning.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Scan your face. It takes about two seconds.
2. Keep your routine steady and change one thing at a time.
3. Watch the line. Weeks tell you what a single day never can.

WHAT YOU SEE
Four scores, each 0 to 100, where higher always means calmer and clearer:
Acne, Redness, Pores, Spots.

Plus a trend line for each, a daily note from your Trace buddy, and a report at the end of every test.

ONE THING AT A TIME
Change three products at once and your skin improves, and you have learned nothing. Trace is built around changing one variable while everything else holds still. It is slower. It is also the only honest way to find out what worked on your face.

YOUR SCAN RUNS ON YOUR PHONE
Your four skin scores are measured on your iPhone, so scanning never sends your photo anywhere. Photos sync only to your own private account. Optional AI features, like product recommendations, send a photo only when you choose to use them.

TALK TO IT LIKE A DIARY
Tell Trace what you ate, how you slept, whether you were stressed, travelling, or on your period. It lines all of that up against your skin trend, so you can tell a product effect from ordinary life noise.

WHY WEEKS, NOT DAYS
Adult skin renews itself over roughly 28 days, and most active ingredients need four to six weeks before anything real shows up. One day of wiggle means almost nothing. The line means a lot.

WHAT TRACE IS NOT
Trace measures, it does not diagnose. The scores describe what the camera saw in this light, on this day. They are not a medical assessment. If something about your skin worries you, please see a dermatologist.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Q: Does scanning upload my face to an AI server?
A: No. Your four scores are measured on your iPhone. Photos sync to your own private account. Optional AI features send a photo only when you choose to use them.

Q: How soon will I see something?
A: Give it a few weeks. Day to day movement is normal and expected. The trend is the part worth reading.

Q: Can I test more than one product at a time?
A: You can, but then you will not know which one did it.

Q: What if I miss a day?
A: Nothing breaks. Come back and keep going. The line survives gaps better than you would think.

## Frequently asked questions about Trace

### What does Trace measure on my skin?

Trace measures acne, redness, pores, and dullness. It uses on-device AI analyzers to detect and count acne lesions, quantify erythema, measure pore texture, and track luminance and tone evenness.

### How does Trace help me test skincare products?

Trace uses a single-product testing method, similar to clinical research. You test one new product while keeping your routine the same, taking daily scans to objectively measure changes over 30 days.

### Is my skin data safe with Trace?

Yes, all skin analysis runs entirely on your iPhone. Your photos and scores are synced only to your private, end-to-end secured account. No face data is sent to any third-party AI service.

### Why is the testing period 30 days?

Skin cell turnover takes approximately 28 days for adults, and active ingredients often require 4 to 6 weeks to show real change. 30 days provides a minimum honest window to observe product effects.

### Can I log other factors that affect my skin?

Yes, Trace includes a daily journal where you can log factors like sleep, diet, stress, period, and travel. This helps you separate product effects from external influences on your skin trends.

### What skin conditions does Trace analyze?

Trace analyzes acne by detecting and counting comedones, papules, pustules, and nodulocystic lesions, including IGA clinical grading. It also quantifies redness, measures pore texture, and tracks dullness.

### Does Trace have ads?

No, Trace is ad-free. It is a free application with no subscription or upsell to product kits.

### What devices does Trace support?

Trace is currently supported on iPhone devices.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-14

Trace grew a lot in this update.

- Scan your left and right profile, not just the front. Pick the angle right on the Today screen
- Trace now speaks French, German, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese
- Full iPad support, no more iPhone only screen
- Yapping upgrades: check off each product as you talk, a streak calendar, and a satisfying sound for every check-in
- Past tests moved into Routine, so products and results live in one place
- Buddy chat looks cleaner: new message colors and proper text formatting
- Fixed a crash when talking to Buddy with the microphone
- Fixed Apple sign-in, rescan slowdowns, and a tutorial that could get stuck
- Today screen polish: banner buttons respond on the first tap

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-01

One product. Twenty-eight days.

Trace now reads your latest photo and picks a single product for you, then asks you to stay with it for 28 days. One thing at a time is the only way to tell what actually made a difference. Your daily photos do the rest.

Your skin diary, out loud
Hold the button and just talk about your day. Buddy turns it into notes on that day's page, so food, sleep, stress and new products sit right next to what your skin is doing.

Trace now speaks your language
The whole app is available in French, German, Spanish and Simplified Chinese. Switch any time in Settings.

Your photos follow you
Reinstall the app or move to a new phone and your history comes back, every day and every layer.

Also in this release
A crash when sending a voice note is fixed, along with a long list of smaller rough edges across the diary, the timeline and your report.

### 1.1.6 — 2026-07-21

Community is here: follow other members' journeys, catch their updates in your new activity inbox, and see which products people are really testing.

Buddy got smarter. It now knows every screen in the app and backs its insights with your own data.

Smoother from the start: a redesigned welcome flow, a calmer score reveal that shows one metric at a time, and faster ways to log the products you use.

Plus many fixes and polish across the app.

### 1.0.6 — 2026-07-11

Bug fixes and performance improvements.

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-10

Trace just got a lot more alive.

What's new:
- Community: share your skin journey, follow others, and see real routines and results from people testing the same products
- Buddy: your AI companion now remembers your history and gives you evidence-based insight cards, not just chat
- Smarter reminders: redesigned notifications that adapt to your streak and cadence
- Product scanning: point your camera at a product and Trace fills in the name for you
- Progress page redesign with plain-language explanations of your trends
- Time-lapse: hold your main photo to watch your skin change over time
- Fixed crashes and freezes during face scan, more accurate redness detection, smoother camera

Thanks for using Trace.
