## What is Trace?

Trace brings your journal, to-dos, goals, important people, and the dates you never want to miss into one private timeline.

Write a single line or keep the whole moment with photos, videos, Live Photos, voice notes, a quick sketch, places, how you felt, tags, and the people who were there. Come back later and leave a comment in a voice of your own, with the name and avatar that fit that moment. Trace is calm by design: no social feed, no public profile, no ads, and no pressure to perform.

KEEP WHAT MATTERS TOGETHER

- Journal: capture a quick thought or a full memory, with media, places, people, and your mood kept beside your words; file entries into notebooks, write for a day that has already passed, and leave comments on entries
- To-dos: plan by Today, Tomorrow, This Week, This Month, or a full timeline; review completed work, add tags, search, repeat tasks, move unfinished work forward, and choose whether untimed tasks join the start or end of a day
- Goals: build habits or work toward a date, check in each day, and review your progress by month or year
- People: give family, friends, partners, and anyone important a private timeline of shared moments; arrange people in your own order and reach them in one tap once you save a number or email
- Important dates: remember birthdays, anniversaries, countdowns, lunar dates, festivals, reminders, and remembrance days
- Today: see what needs your attention across journal entries, to-dos, goals, people, and upcoming dates
- Period Tracking (optional): start, finish, or backfill a period from Today; dates stay in Apple Health and appear in the journal calendar beside entries from those days
- Widgets and Live Activities: keep goals, to-dos, dates, and people close on the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and Dynamic Island; all five widgets refresh as a new day begins

LOOK BACK, SHARE, AND KEEP A COPY

On This Day brings old entries back at the right time, and Look Back lets you pull up a random entry, see the year in moods, and open the photo wall, year in review, and your map. Browse photos, video, and Live Photos full screen with paging and zoom, then share the original file. Turn any journal entry into one of six 3:4 artwork layouts that adapt to its words and media; a day, an important date, and your footprint map can also become polished share cards. Trace Pro can bind your journal into a searchable, print-ready A4 book with a title page, month sections, and media, created entirely on your iPhone.

MAKE TRACE FEEL LIKE YOURS

Choose from 24 complete light and dark themes and six typefaces that adapt to the app language, all free, including WenKai for Chinese, English, and Japanese. A new cat UI changes with the time of day on Today, with distinct illustrations on empty To-dos, Goals, Journal, and People pages. Trace Pro can also import TTF or OTF files stored only on this device. Backgrounds, cards, buttons, widgets, Live Activities, and share cards change together. If you use your own background photo, it stays right where it is.

FREE, PRIVATE, AND AD-FREE

The essentials stay free: unlimited journal entries, goals, people, to-dos, reminders, Period Tracking, themes, custom backgrounds, and private iCloud sync.

Use Trace fully offline or sync through your own iCloud. We run no content server and cannot read your journal. Period dates stay in Apple Health and never enter the Trace database, iCloud sync, or zip backups. No ads. No tracking. No public profile.

TRACE PRO (OPTIONAL)

Everyone can try Pro free for 30 days. After the trial, the core remains free. Pro adds journal comments with your own personas, unlimited important dates, up to 9 media items per entry, Live Activities, journal PDF export, and custom font imports. Choose a monthly, half-yearly, or yearly plan, or unlock Pro for good with a one-time Lifetime purchase.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.3.4 — 2026-08-21

Trace 1.3.4 adds Period Tracking and a new cat UI.

• Start, finish, or backfill a period from Today. Dates stay in Apple Health and appear in your journal calendar.
• With enough records, see average cycle, duration, and an approximate next date for reference, then revisit journal entries from those days.
• Cats now change with the time of day on Today, with new scenes across To-dos, Goals, Journal, and People.
• Fixed known issues on iOS 18.

Thank you for using Trace.

### 1.3.3 — 2026-08-19

Trace 1.3.3 focuses on reliability and a cleaner fit across iPhone sizes.

• Fixed an issue on iOS 17 that could make some Settings and People screens unresponsive after you opened them.
• Fixed cases where the journal composer stayed on screen after you saved an entry and tapped Done. Statistics, sync, and review prompts no longer delay dismissal.
• Improved long-form editing and navigation stability on iOS 17.
• Refined type sizing and layouts for compact and large iPhones, with cleaner main tabs.

Thank you for using Trace.

### 1.3.2 — 2026-08-17

Trace 1.3.2 makes it easier to get started, understand Pro, and enter everyday details.

• The redesigned welcome flow uses one journal entry to show how memories connect with people, dates, and to-dos. It also makes all 24 free themes easier to explore.
• The Trace Pro page now makes free features, Pro benefits, plan differences, pricing, and renewal terms easier to compare.
• Title fields for to-dos, goals, people, and important dates now dismiss the keyboard reliably when you tap Done and keep pasted multiline text neat.
• Text entered with third-party keyboards now stays intact when you finish, and clearing a long journal entry no longer brings back an old draft.
• People pickers stay compact when there is no one to choose, alongside additional interface polish and stability improvements.

Enjoying Trace? We'd be grateful for an honest App Store review. Tell us what feels good and what could be better. We read every review. Thank you.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-08-14

Trace 1.3.1 makes comments easier to find and gives notebooks, widgets, and Live Activities a thoughtful refresh.

• Your 10 most recent comments now appear in journal lists, calendar views, and search results. When there are more, Trace shows exactly how many remain.
• Choose from 27 built-in avatars in their original colors, or save up to 10 custom photos in a reusable avatar library for any comment persona.
• All five Home Screen widgets have been redesigned: To-dos lead with what is next, Goals show orbital progress, Dates focus on the countdown, People reflect your contact rhythm, and Journal keeps today's excerpt close.
• Goals, To-dos, Dates, and People now each have a distinct Live Activity and Dynamic Island layout, with the key status first and more detail when expanded.
• Notebook names now appear in journal lists and entry details. You can also add an older entry to a notebook, move it, or remove it while editing.
• We fixed theme colors when the comment persona manager expands, improved long entries on Today, prevented clipped goal Live Activity text, and made What's New fit on one screen at standard text sizes.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-10

Trace 1.3.0 gives your journal clearer ways to read, share, and keep.

• Journal PDF has been rebuilt as a book, with a title page, month sections, single-column entries, context, and media. It stays searchable, print-ready, and generated on device.
• Six 3:4 entry artwork styles now adapt to your words, photos, video, Live Photos, and audio, with the same composition in preview, save, and share.
• WenKai joins the free built-in typefaces. Your selection now carries more consistently through text, navigation, tools, and entry artwork.
• Voice notes play inline in the journal. Edited Photo Library media and text entered with third-party keyboards are also preserved more reliably.
• To-do lists show notes, details include creation dates, and swipe deletion now waits for the saved result.
• Large journals, maps, statistics, list transitions, and iCloud sync stay more responsive, with less waiting and fewer overlapping animations.
