TraceTrail turns your daily journeys into a personal heatmap, showing the roads you've travelled and the paths yet to explore.

Ever wondered which streets you've never walked down? Which trails you've yet to discover? TraceTrail shows you where you've been - and where you haven't.

Fully automatic: tracking runs in the background and knows when you stop - trips start and end by themselves, and GPS pauses while you're not moving to save battery.

Completely private: no accounts, no data collection, your location history never leaves your device.

Your data is yours: browse, rename and manage every trail, export to GPX, and back up or restore everything with one file.

Recording you don't have to think about

- Background recording now keeps full detail with the phone in your pocket - no more sparse or missing stretches on busy days
- No more phantom trips or scribbles recorded while you stay in one place - starting a trip needs real movement, and drift that only loops back on itself is discarded
- Trips no longer split when you reopen the app
- The app launches instantly and no longer freezes or lags while tracking is switched off
- Settings now warns about any iPhone setting that would hurt tracking, with a shortcut to fix it
- The map recovers by itself if it fails to load
- Issue reports can include your recent location history as a compact backup file, making problems much easier to investigate
- Fixed a crash when sending an issue report on devices without a configured email account
- Fixed a startup crash on the iOS 27 beta

- Boats, trains and other smooth rides no longer pause or split your trips
- GPS resumes faster after a stop, so trips begin right where you set off
- Distances now include walking measured by the step counter where GPS has no signal (tube stations, shopping centres)
- Connecting your car's Bluetooth instantly tells TraceTrail you're driving
- GPS stays on while charging; Low Power Mode pauses it sooner
- View multiple trails together: whole days, months, years, or any selection you like
- New Week and Month buttons show the current period on one map
- Cleanup tools finish in a single run and also remove junk trips of a few stray points
- Smoother map rendering under the tab bar

Smarter tracking that knows when you stop

- Journeys are no longer split by tunnels, trains or lost GPS signal - one trip stays one trip
- Trips end automatically when you arrive and start again when you move off
- Motion detection pauses GPS while your phone isn't moving, greatly reducing battery use
- No more GPS scribbles recorded while you're parked at work or waiting at a station
- New cleanup tools in Settings: merge previously split trips and remove old GPS jitter
- Trip maps bridge unrecorded stretches with orange connector lines so you can tell recorded paths from gaps

• Trails now have a clean, consistent look throughout the app
• Your live route shows in blue while you're recording
• Opening a single trip now shows it in bold, full colour
• Fixed the current-location button icon staying highlighted after you pan the map

TraceTrail is now completely free - the TraceTrail+ subscription is gone and everyone sees their full heatmap with no point limit.

New in this version:
• The app now lets you know when tracking is off and you can start it with a single tap
• Improved current-location display with a heading indicator
• Fixed an issue where new installs could get stuck on "Loading trails"
