## What is Tracks?

Step out, scan your area, collect every animal on Earth.

Tracks turns iNaturalist's research-grade observations into a field tool that surfaces the documented wildlife around you. Tap a hex on the map to see what's been spotted nearby: birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish. Each comes with a real photo, scientific name, and the location it was last seen.

WHAT YOU GET
- A radar that scans the hex you're standing in for documented wildlife
- Real photos and species data from iNaturalist's community
- Your personal Tracks: every species you've collected, with a counter for repeat sightings
- Smart expansion in sparse areas (rural or open water) so you always have something to discover
- Location used only while you're scanning, never in the background

FOR FIELD WORK, WALKS, AND CURIOSITY
Use Tracks on a coastal walk to learn what shorebirds frequent the cove. Use it in a city park to see which native mammals the iNat community has documented. Use it on a road trip to discover regional fauna you'd otherwise miss.

DATA SOURCED FROM iNATURALIST
All observations come from iNaturalist's research-grade dataset under Creative Commons licensing. Every photo is attributed to its observer.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.10 — 2026-08-25

What's new in Tracks:

The map is quicker and steadier. It opens on what you have already collected, keeps up while you pan, and keeps working when your signal doesn't.
• Cells you can tap are visible everywhere on screen, at every zoom.
• Markers arrive as a clean fade, nearest to you first, and stay sharp and tappable.
• A revealed cell shows its species as photos. An empty one just says so.
• Batteries turn up on a cell the day you earn it, by walking in or superscanning.
• Signing out now erases this device's copy of your data, including where you have been.
• When something fails to load, the map says so instead of looking empty.

### 1.0.7 — 2026-08-10

What's new in Tracks:

Batteries come back. Every hex re-rolls its charge each day, so a cell you emptied yesterday can hold another one tomorrow. No more neighbourhoods that run dry for good.
• Batteries now only show up where you can actually reach them: your own hex and the ones you've scanned around it, instead of anywhere you happen to scroll to.
• The battery marker keeps its size when you zoom out, so you can spot one while looking at the wider map.
• Cleared cells get their own pin on the map.
• Signing in and getting set up looks cleaner, and the messages when something goes wrong now say what to do about it.
• Counters roll to their new value instead of jumping, sheets fade in and out, and a message can be tapped to send it away.
• Everything you can tap is now labelled for VoiceOver.

### 1.0.6 — 2026-08-09

What's new in Tracks:
Hexes now hand you something extra when you scan them: batteries. Find one, and you can spend it to light up a whole area at once instead of walking cell by cell.
• Superscan reveals the six cells around you; Hyperscan reaches two rings out, both play the same radar tell as a normal scan, just bigger.
• A free battery charge is waiting every day, tap the new battery counter to claim it.
• Scan an empty hex and the satellite picks up the wider area, so a quiet spot still gives you something to collect.
• Scans are much faster, map markers stay sharp, and a scan that fails now says something you can act on

### 1.0.5 — 2026-07-29

Scanning a hex now tells you what's in it before the number lands. The radar takes on the colour of whatever rules that cell
• Collected species show whether you've taken your own photo of them yet.
• Much faster start: the map opens on your position and the Tracks grid is already filled.
• Fixed a coarse first location fix that could open the map in the wrong part of town.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-07-28

What's new in Tracks:

The map comes alive. Every scanned hex now plays a little animation of the animals that rule it, and unscanned hexes carry a mystery paw print.
• Walk into a hex you've scanned and it clears from the map for good, so you can see the ground you've actually covered.
• The map holds still when you open an animal card. No more sliding around.
• Faster start: you're on the map as soon as Tracks is ready.
• Clearer location steps during onboarding.
