Welcome to the most detailed travel guide for overland travel in Africa. This offline app offers a great map and huge amount of detailed places of interest for planning your next safari. Your GPS location will ensure you stay orientated while using the app on your self-drive trip. Try it out The app contains samples of the map and guide information, which can be upgraded to full country maps and guides. How does it work? This is not a routing/navigation app. The app aims to bring you offline access (i.e. no internet connection required) to the following: • A detailed map of the country or region you purchase. The country map roughly corresponds to a 1:1 000 000 paper map in terms of its detail and will allow you to view the map at different zoom levels. The map works similar to a web map with the difference being that all information is installed on your device. It contains place names like cities, towns and villages together with a detailed road and track network. It also shows you all protected areas such as national parks and game reserves together with relevant background data such as rivers, mountains and major attractions. • A detailed guide with the following categories: Places (cities, towns, etc), Attractions & Activities, Parks, Scenic, Camps, Lodging, Food & Drink, Fuel, Shopping, Services and More (miscellaneous points of interest). The guide information is linked to a location on the map and will display as a pin on the map for you to know where it is in reference to where you are. The app will display a map of the country or region and allow you to switch on different categories of points of interest. You can also search for specific places by name. The map search is location sensitive, i.e. results will be relative to the centre of the map. Your position, determined from your iPhone or iPad’s location service, will display on the map so you can accurately orientate yourself on the map. As you drive, your location will update on the map so you always know where you are. (iPhone or iPad with GPS required) The search functionality is linked to the guide categories. For example, if you need to find a campsite, simply switch on the Camps category. Immediately all campsites around you will display on the map and you can click on them for more information. Otherwise, if you know the name of a campsite, enter it into the search block and relevant results will be filtered. What kind of information can you expect? Apart from the categories already mentioned, points of interest will have associated information such as a description, contacts details, facilities and activities and some places will have photos. Guide and Map content is updated once a quarter, and available for download if you have purchased the relevant guide. Very useful for navigation, including when there was no mobile coverage. If you purchase the country guides also shows accommodation, fuel stations etc. Note however that some of the camping info is out of date so we used another app (ioverlander) for that purpose. ### 3/5 — Routen für Afrika *2026-05-18* Die App ist in Ordnung und leider Alternativlos. I’ve read your online piece about why you can’t increase zoom levels, and as a developer myself that sounds like garbage. Phones today can handle it, additionally, you could add options to for the map size you want to download. Please, this app would be many times better if I could get zoom that I can actually use to get myself un-lost. Please! ### 5/5 — Absolute Overland Essential *2025-12-01, version 2.4.8* I recently did a road trip from South Africa to Botswana and Namibia. This app got us out of trouble when the local e-sims weren’t working. 20:00 at night in the middle of the Nxai Hame Reserve we were able to make our way to camp using this app. No signal required for GPS location. ### 5/5 — T4A Guide App *2025-11-29, version 2.4.8* The Tracks4Africa Guide App works great for us, we use it whenever we travel off the main roads, which is often and I won’t leave home without it on my iPad. The Guide App has helped us in many instances to choose a better, shorter or more interesting route than the route chosen by the Garmin GPS even when running T4A on the GPS The Guide App is very useful in looking the planned route over on my iPad before we set off to get a good idea of the direction of travel, directional changes, towns, villages or key points along the planned route. That allows me to know what to expect from the GPS routing. There have been a few situations where the GPS, running T4A, got it really wrong but I became aware of it early on, thanks to my route review before the start. When that happens, we use the Guide App to navigate until the GPS corrects itself or I add additional waypoint to “force” GPS to go where we want to. Must add that Garmin’s City Navigator gets it all wrong very frequently even in RSA but especially in other Southern African counties. ### 4/5 — Great app, well worth having! *2025-11-25* Was a life saver when we visited Botswana & Zambia. Allowed us to take the routes less travelled. However, I did find it rather difficult to download my routes from my Mac to my GPS but then I am pretty much a novice in this regard. Would be even better if the maps could work through Apple CarPlay. We will be using the app again next year when we re-visit Botswana and explore Namibia. ### 4/5 — Magic Tour wit T4A *2025-11-25, version 2.4.8* During August 2025 we traveled Kruger National Park , Bottom to top, Mozambique, Gonarezhou, Zimbabwe, Mana Pools, Matopi National Park, Vic Falls add back to SA via Botswana Chobe, Senyati, Elephant Sands and Traxks4Africa was instrumental with excellent guidance through Africa. ### 5/5 — Essential App *2025-11-24* The app has been invaluable on our travels I don’t know how you travel Africa without it. For route planning and general positioning it’s essential, we then pay found r the in-country high definition versions for our hand held garmin.
