I’ve read your online piece about why you can’t increase zoom levels, and as a developer myself that sounds like garbage. Phones today can handle it, additionally, you could add options to for the map size you want to download. Please, this app would be many times better if I could get zoom that I can actually use to get myself un-lost. Please! ### 4/5 — Great app, well worth having! *2025-11-25* Was a life saver when we visited Botswana & Zambia. Allowed us to take the routes less travelled. However, I did find it rather difficult to download my routes from my Mac to my GPS but then I am pretty much a novice in this regard. Would be even better if the maps could work through Apple CarPlay. We will be using the app again next year when we re-visit Botswana and explore Namibia. ### 4/5 — Magic Tour wit T4A *2025-11-25, version 2.4.8* During August 2025 we traveled Kruger National Park , Bottom to top, Mozambique, Gonarezhou, Zimbabwe, Mana Pools, Matopi National Park, Vic Falls add back to SA via Botswana Chobe, Senyati, Elephant Sands and Traxks4Africa was instrumental with excellent guidance through Africa. ### 4/5 — Excellent useful app *2025-11-21, version 2.4.8* Excellent app for overlanding. Chobe Riverfront is not up to date at all unfortunately. ### 2/5 — Keeps crashing *2025-01-18, version 2.4.1* As soon as I scroll around the app it crashes ### 5/5 — Useful offline app *2024-10-06* Used the app to travel through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia and pretty much all roads (major and minor) we came across were in the map and quite accurate in terms of distances, twists and turns. It looks a little messy and takes just a bit of getting used to at first but so good when you don’t have signal/GPS. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Does not navigate *2025-09-08, version 2.4.5* The app does not do turn by turn navigation as it traditionally did. Unfortunately this is not mentioned anywhere when you purchase the in app features. Basically you get a “guide” that you could have searched. ### 1/5 — Maps won’t download *2025-08-19* Got the T4A Guide and bought 3 maps (SA, Namibia and Botswana) for my upcoming trip. None of the maps downloaded. Hoping to resolve this soon. Update August 18: managed to download all 3 GPS maps only after changing VPN to South Africa. Unfortunately downloaded maps cannot be moved to compatible Garmin GPS by following all instructions provided. Very frustrating experience and wasted a lot of time. Suspect that the new Mac IOS is not compatible with T4A maps. ### 1/5 — Tap the map to close the app *2025-07-27, version 2.4.5* Try to find campsites. But when you tap on any pin the app just closes. Very useful. Die Schrift in der Karte und Menüs lässt sich nicht vergrößern. Auch sind die Daten nicht UpToDate. Es gibt leider viele Fehler. In Nord-, West- und Zentralafrika sind die Pakete mehr oder minder nutzlos. Ab Angola hatte ich mir mehr erhofft: Viele Fehler und wenig brauchbare Zusatzinfos. However, this App is the worst I have ever bought. You cannot search for points of interest and you cannot record you GPS tracks. The app is not intuitive at all and partially buggy. Very disappointing, especially because T4A does know about these problems for a long time and does not fix the bugs. If you need their great maps buy the Garmin map or their paper maps but not this App. ### 1/5 — Latest update crashes on iPad Air2 *2024-10-11, version 2.4.1* The moment I updated the app, it opens up and while loading my favourites, it crashes every time. Needs much more work. ### 1/5 — Pure horror, unreliable data, unusable routing *2024-09-07* Useless. Crashes all the time. „Syncing“ with the server means losing all your data. The first POIs used where plain wrong on the map. I cannot create a new trip in the T4A native app. I also cannot create a new trip in the browser and then sync to the native app. It’s useless when you want to use it truly offline. Also, I have now added 5 trips to the native app but it only shows 3 on the map. No idea why, they all have the same settings. ### 1/5 — R600+ worth of Maps and Guides not Downloading *2024-08-28, version 2.3.5* Got the app on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Immediately registered and clicked on 3 maps to download. WiFi speed is 120MB/s +. No download for more than an hour. Closed the app. Logged out. Deleted the app. Logged in. Restored purchases and tried again… still NOTHING. Came to the app store and saw 5+ years of bad reviews and similar complaints. Really dissatisfied and disappointed as I used to be a big fan of T4A. In this day and age with all the tech available, I won’t recommend. Waste of money. ### 1/5 — Maps not available for iPhone *2024-06-28, version 2.3.3* I bought the maps, and it was not cheap. When I upgraded to a iPhone, I lost all the maps. When I contacted them regarding this problem they weren’t helpfull at all. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Great navigation app *2026-05-29* We used this app extensively on our recent trip through 8 countries in Southern Africa. Very useful for navigation, including when there was no mobile coverage. If you purchase the country guides also shows accommodation, fuel stations etc. Note however that some of the camping info is out of date so we used another app (ioverlander) for that purpose. ### 5/5 — Absolute Overland Essential *2025-12-01, version 2.4.8* I recently did a road trip from South Africa to Botswana and Namibia. This app got us out of trouble when the local e-sims weren’t working. 20:00 at night in the middle of the Nxai Hame Reserve we were able to make our way to camp using this app. No signal required for GPS location. ### 5/5 — T4A Guide App *2025-11-29, version 2.4.8* The Tracks4Africa Guide App works great for us, we use it whenever we travel off the main roads, which is often and I won’t leave home without it on my iPad. The Guide App has helped us in many instances to choose a better, shorter or more interesting route than the route chosen by the Garmin GPS even when running T4A on the GPS The Guide App is very useful in looking the planned route over on my iPad before we set off to get a good idea of the direction of travel, directional changes, towns, villages or key points along the planned route. That allows me to know what to expect from the GPS routing. There have been a few situations where the GPS, running T4A, got it really wrong but I became aware of it early on, thanks to my route review before the start. When that happens, we use the Guide App to navigate until the GPS corrects itself or I add additional waypoint to “force” GPS to go where we want to. Must add that Garmin’s City Navigator gets it all wrong very frequently even in RSA but especially in other Southern African counties. ### 5/5 — Essential App *2025-11-24* The app has been invaluable on our travels I don’t know how you travel Africa without it. For route planning and general positioning it’s essential, we then pay found r the in-country high definition versions for our hand held garmin.
