## What is TrailFollow?

Two ways people fail to arrive together: everyone leaves at the wrong time, or the group gets split up on the road. TrailFollow handles both.

MEETING SOMEWHERE
Set the place and the time everyone should arrive. TrailFollow watches live traffic and tells each person when THEY need to head out — a 20-minute drive and a 50-minute drive get different alerts for the same 7pm dinner. No more "leaving now!" texts, no more one person waiting 25 minutes alone at the table.
• Everyone sees who's on the way and their live ETA.
• You get told when to leave, even with the app closed.
• If someone's running late, the group finds out early — not at 7:05.
• Set off and the meetup becomes a live map, so you can watch each other arrive.
• Arriving tells you where everyone else is — who's already there, and who's minutes away.

DRIVING THERE TOGETHER
Caravanning or road-tripping? One person leads, everyone else joins with a short code, and the whole group sees each other live on one map.
• Follow the leader — if the lead car takes a detour, followers get a tap-to-follow alert.
• Hand over the lead mid-drive — if someone else ends up in front, one tap and everyone follows their route instead.
• Nobody gets left behind — if the group spreads out, both the leader and whoever's fallen back are told, with the distance. Free for everyone.
• Arrive together — the trip ends itself once everyone reaches the destination.

You keep navigating with the app you already know — Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze. TrailFollow adds the shared layer on top.

NO ACCOUNTS, NO SIGN-UPS
Share a join code in Messages and you're going — one person at a time, or a whole saved group at once. Your location is shared only with the people in that trip or meetup, and only while it's running.

CROSS-PLATFORM
Friends don't need an iPhone to join. They can follow along from whatever phone they have, and the whole group ends up on the same map.

FREE PLAN
2 meetups and 2 trips every month, with you plus one other person on each. Starting one and joining someone else's both count toward your allowance, which resets on the 1st. Reconnecting to something you're already in never counts.

PREMIUM
• Unlimited meetups and trips
• Unlimited people in a group
• Alerts if someone stops too long, goes off route, or loses signal
• Trip history
• Pinned favorite places and contacts, and saved groups you can send a code to in one message

Great for dinners and group outings, road trips, caravans, motorcycle rides, family trips in two cars, and anywhere a group needs to arrive together.

Note: TrailFollow uses your location while a trip or meetup is running so it can keep the group in sync, and can check it in the background so your "time to leave" alert still arrives with the app closed.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.7 — 2026-10-09

See your plan at a glance. Settings now opens with "Your plan": whether you have Premium, how you got it, and the exact date it renews or ends. On the free plan it shows how much of this month's allowance you've used and when it resets.

### 1.6 — 2026-10-08

A code can now unlock Premium for good. If someone gave you a TrailFollow code, redeem it from the Premium screen with "Redeem a Code". It works on any code we hand out, including ones that don't expire or renew.

### 1.5 — 2026-08-30

Setting off right now? Say so instead of picking a time. Planning a meetup while you're already walking to the car meant choosing a date and a time for a journey you had started. Tap "I'm leaving now" and TrailFollow checks how long the drive takes in current traffic, makes that your arrival time, and sets you off — one tap instead of two pickers.

Save a group and text them all at once. Sharing a join code with five people meant five separate messages. Save them as a named group and one tap opens Messages with everyone already on it. Groups stay on your phone — they're never uploaded, and nobody else in the trip can see them.

Sharing a code goes straight to your people. "Share code" used to put a short menu in front of you. Now it opens the list itself: your groups and the people you've shared with already on screen, with a search box for when it gets long.

### 1.4 — 2026-08-29

A meetup no longer talks to you like a convoy. If you all head out to the same place from different starting points, TrailFollow used to warn that someone had "gone off route" or that "the convoy has split up" — about people who were simply driving their own way there, and sometimes about someone steadily catching up. Meetups now stay quiet about all of that and keep the alerts that matter: when to leave, who has set off, and who is running late.

If you're the only one travelling, whoever is following along now hears that you arrived. Watching one person drive home is the commonest way follow-along gets used, and it was the one case that never reported an arrival — an hour after the meet time you'd get "we've stopped watching it" instead, on every trip that went perfectly. It now says so by name.

Pick your maps app when you first open the app. Whichever one you use for directions, choose it up front instead of finding out at the worst moment — the first time you tap for directions with the phone already in a mount. It's still in Settings, and only appears if you have more than one.

### 1.3 — 2026-08-23

You'll hear when the convoy spreads out — and so will whoever fell behind. TrailFollow only mentioned this at about five miles apart, only to the leader, and only on Premium. Now there are two quiet nudges, at roughly half a mile and a mile, both people are told, and it's free for everyone. It also tells the difference between someone dropping back and someone who has got out in front, and says which — it used to call both "far behind".

The lead can change hands mid-drive. If someone has been out in front for a few minutes, you're both told, and whoever is currently leading can hand it over with one tap straight from the notification. Everyone then follows the new leader's route. Nothing changes on its own, and whoever started the convoy is still the one who ends it.

Following a meetup now tells you how it ended. If you're following along rather than coming, the "everyone's arrived" message now also reaches you when the app works it out while sitting in the background. And if we lose track of a meetup rather than seeing it finish, it says so plainly instead of going quiet on you.

The home screen says which mode is which. Meetup and Convoy are now two named cards — one for when everyone's coming from somewhere different, one for when you're all setting off together — and both show what your free plan has left this month.
