## What is TrailsIQ?

TrailsIQ is the field-operations app for trail-maintenance crews. Whether you're patching a washout, replacing a sign, or rerouting a section after a storm, TrailsIQ keeps your work documented, your team coordinated, and your office with the data they need — without coming back to a desk to log it.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Log maintenance issues from anywhere on the trail. Drop a GPS pin, snap photos, set a priority, hit save. Issues sync to your organization's dashboard in real time.

• Set trail status from the field — open, closed, partial, advisory. The moment you change it, followers of your organization get a push notification on the TrailsIQ Report app. No more "is the trail open?" calls during a storm.

• Catalog infrastructure — bridges, signs, gates, water bars — and inspect it with a guided walkthrough that grades what you find and files follow-up work for anything that fails. Trails get inspections too. The app surfaces what's overdue.

• Talk it through on the item itself. Every issue carries a discussion thread with photos and @mentions, so the question and the answer live with the work.

• Plan a new line before you cut it. Draw or walk a route and the app scores it against grade and side-slope rules, flagging fall-line sections and pitches that are too steep to hold.

• Record GPS trail tracks as you walk, ride, or rebuild a route. The recorder works in your pocket — lock the screen and keep moving; the track keeps growing. Edit vertices on the map after you stop, then save it as a new trail or correction.

• Run volunteer days and events with signup forms, online waivers, and per-event reminders. Field crews see who's signed up and check folks in from the app.

• Keep the crew's day in one place — a daily report anyone can post to, projects to group work against, seasonal checklists for opening and closing sweeps, and tool and material stock with counts you can correct from the shed.

• Mark points of interest. Trailheads, viewpoints, intersections, parking — all categorized and searchable.

• Log time spent on each task, and track expenses with auto-cropped receipt photos. Tap-scan a receipt at the trailhead — iOS's document scanner clips it perfectly. Link it to a task and export a weekly or monthly PDF.

• Approve or reject incoming public reports. When a trail visitor files an issue through TrailsIQ Report, your crew gets a push notification — handle it straight from the bell panel.

• Annotate issue photos with a pencil tool — circle the bad joint, point to the loose bolt — so whoever picks up the task sees exactly what you saw.

MAPS MADE FOR TRAIL WORK

Hillshading and contours to read the ground before you walk it, aerial imagery where it's available, and rainfall and trail-wetness readings per network so you know whether the tread will hold.

WORKS OFFLINE — INCLUDING THE MAP

Download a trail network before you leave signal and the map, the terrain, the trails and the photos come with you. No bars, and the map still draws.

And every save — issues, structures, expenses, photos, GPS tracks — goes through a local queue that survives the app closing or your phone dying. Nothing gets lost. The queue resumes the moment you reconnect.

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS

When a public report comes in, your phone buzzes. Tap the banner to jump straight to the issue — no menu hunting.

WHO IT'S FOR

TrailsIQ is built for organizations that maintain trails — mountain-bike clubs, parks departments, trail associations, land trusts, equestrian groups. Bike parks can track lifts; climbing areas can catalog crags, routes and bolt inspections. If your team works on trails and you need a record of what was done, who did it, and when, this is the app.

You'll need an active TrailsIQ account, or membership in an organization that has one. New here? Sign up at trailsiq.com.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.9 — 2026-10-02

Log work from a photo you've already taken. Pick a picture from your library and TrailsIQ drops the pin where the photo was taken, including photos stored in iCloud.

A quicker start. The app connects faster when it opens and tells you clearly if it can't reach the network, so you're never left waiting on a blank screen.

### 1.8 — 2026-09-12

A new look across the whole app, trail inspections, and an important fix for anyone who has used "Free up iOS storage".

TRAIL INSPECTIONS
Walk a trail against a question set your organization words itself, grade it Good, Marginal or Poor, and file follow-up work for anything that fails. The inspector can set the trail's status at the end of the walk, and a recent inspection now outranks the forecast in the trail-conditions reading. Past walks are on the phone, with their photos.

A NEW LOOK
A bar along the bottom of every screen, so the map, your lists, discussions and the rest are one tap apart wherever you are. Redesigned home screen, map controls, filter bar and status colors — plus a new app icon and launch screen.

RECORDINGS START WHERE YOU ARE
The recorder used to discard the first ten seconds after you pressed Start — about forty feet of trail, and no line on screen until you were several steps in. The first point is now exactly where you tapped. Start also unlocks precisely when your GPS is good enough to record, rather than a little before.

DISCUSSIONS
Every maintenance issue, structure and planned trail has a discussion room now — photos, @mentions and a mute switch, on its own tab in the bottom bar.

PHOTOS YOU CAN TAKE BACK OFF
Day updates, inspections, discussion messages and checklist rows let you remove and re-annotate photos after posting, not just add them. And checklist photos are visible on the phone for the first time.

PUBLIC REPORTS
Approve or reject reports from trail users in a queue on the phone, with a count on the Maintenance tile.

EXPENSES ON A PHONE
Day, week and month views built for a small screen, an Add expense button on all three, export any custom range as a PDF, and mark an approved claim paid.

MEASUREMENT AND WEATHER
Elevation gain, loss and max grade come from one measurement everywhere now, so the planner, a published trail and an imported GPX finally agree. Expect published trails to report less gain than before — the net rise is unchanged. Trail wetness reads rain that was measured rather than forecast where that data exists.

ALSO
• "Free up iOS storage" was clearing your downloaded offline packs along with the browser cache. It clears the cache only now.
• The launch screen no longer says you appear to be offline when the connection is just slow.
• You choose when to take a new version — nothing updates without a tap.
• Log work time for a whole crew in one go.
• Limit a seasonal checklist line to chosen trails.
• Trimming a long GPS recording is responsive again, however many points it holds.

### 1.7 — 2026-08-06

Pinch-to-zoom on photos, plus reliability improvements.

### 1.6 — 2026-08-03

Sync feedback: your phone now buzzes when queued saves upload. Plus per-kind notification preferences, custom fields, faster reload after updates.

### 1.5 — 2026-07-10

This update adds native document and receipt scanning, hands-free dictation for field notes, and a system share sheet. Links now open directly to the right screen in the app. Plus new climbing route management with fixed-gear inspections tied into maintenance, route recording and planning tools, and photo annotation for reports — along with performance and reliability improvements.
