### 3/5 — “Downgraded” workouts

*2024-12-07, version 1.4.5*

I actually really enjoy the app and interface, however after my free trial of premium was finished I decided to stick with the free plan.
I began to receive notifications that my workouts were “downgraded” because I wasn’t a paid member.
Now I understand reducing features for unpaid members, but I don’t understand reducing training. That leads me to believe that I will receive less productive training if I don’t pay, and thus there are other free apps that you don’t lose training quality for.
Great app, if you pay, reduced training if you don’t.

### 3/5 — Not usable for Couch to 5k on Apple Watch

*2024-02-11, version 1.3.3*

Love the concept and flexibility but didn‘t get chance to test this in practice with my new Apple Watch 9.
I connected Train As One to my Apple Watch using Watchletic, which works beautfully, and the Watchletic interface is great.

HOWEVER: The „Stand and Relax“ intervals that are a mandatory part of some runs do not work: the watch goes onto „auto pause“ - even if the auto pause feature is switched off. So the timer stops running. Sure, I can walk slowly, but that would skew the readings. Or I could use the phone app and just work with the audio cues, but I specifically want to see the progress on my watch.

This is an issue with the way Apple Watch recognizes workouts (no movement = forced pause), and not a problem caused by Train As One. But because the Stand/Relax phase is integrated into the workout and apparently important for the calculations, the app is unusable - at least in this setup I tried (Watchletic was one of the options listed by Train As One to connect to Apple Watch)..

### 4/5 — Hope to edit running distance

*2023-10-19, version 1.3.1*

Is there anyway to edit distance data for a run imported from Garmin Connect? I did a treadmill run, had to calibrate the distance through my watch at the end the work out, and trainasone app still has the incorrect pacing which is of by around 5 mins/mile.

### 4/5 — Great plans

*2023-08-04, version 1.2.2*

I’ve always struggled to truly get into running and never enjoyed the standard plans where it feels as though one missed session is a catastrophe. With this, the plan tailors to your previous activity and feels spot on.

My only suggestion would be to have a text explanation of the week ahead, changes and a weekly summary of your activity

### 3/5 — Good app, Needs More Intergration

*2023-07-04, version 1.2.2*

I like the app so far after my first run, it just needs better integration with other apps like Strava and Apple Watch.

### 4/5 — No longer works

*2023-04-08, version 1.2.2*

Used it for 2 weeks but now y’ the iOS app won’t open. It still works in a browser.

Anyway it’s really interesting as a training program. I find it really challenging. Maybe I’ve been too ambitious in seeing my goals but I really have a hard time reaching target running speed. And I’m the same level my HR is way above what is indicated.

### 4/5 — Good but the app is temperamental

*2023-03-04, version 1.2.2*

The app often fails to open so I have to delete then re-download which isn’t ideal.

But the programmes and running AI is good, wish there was a bit more flexibility and that it was easier to set days to do specific workouts.

### 4/5 — Using for First Time - 4th full marathon

*2022-09-28, version 1.1.3*

I was looking for a paid training plan with flexibility that worked with my electronics. Started a marathon training program >18 weeks before my event. Three weeks out and the longest run scheduled is 13.6 miles. I emailed and didn't get a response. Then tried through the app. I was provided a link to FAQ that did answer my question. Race is in two weeks. Will provide update after.

### 5/5 — High Value adaptive Training Program

*2022-09-02, version 1.1.3*

The Pros:
- responds to your training immediately so if you skip a day, train harder than expected or differently, BAM new plan
- has in-depth charts showing a little of what’s going on in the back end (I use Runalyze to check some extra data too)
- responsive team answer questions (and the FAQ answers many that you’ll have)
- the free subscription is almost too good and doesn’t require payment details to get the first month premium (I pay mostly to support such an amazing product)
- emails you a ‘daily run’ which adapts to your location, undulation etc and can be edited if required
- talks to Racefully/Garmin Training so I can have the run segments spoken to me through my headphones which feels very futuristic

The Cons:
- the iOS app is a bit buggy (I never use it to record and sometimes it fails to load at all - I use Safari to do most things with TAO on my phone and a desktop browser when at home)
- to get around the Apple Watch -> Strava -> TAO issues I paid the $8 for HealthFit which is actually a pretty decent app in its own right but a hurdle to clear none the less (you can’t do the Perceived Assessment Test with just the watch as it will cut the standing still time)
- no multiple runs per day (just yet)

All in all, I can’t recommend it enough even with the few cons. 10/10 stop reading and start downloading.

### 4/5 — Weekly availability

*2022-08-01, version 1.1.2*

Great. Should update with a feature to provide your availability every week again.

### 3/5 — I want to like this

*2022-06-06, version 1.0.24*

I want to like this app. However, my plan keeps changing, vanishing, even past workouts disappeared and then I had to resync from Strava then go through them and change them to freestyle and update the perceived effort on each of them... again. I had a workout scheduled for Wednesday, now it shows no workouts scheduled at all. Frustration with the app not working far outweigh my hopefullness of getting AI driven custom running plans to meet my goals. I have 15 days left of free my premium plan, which Iay need to cancel if things don't start working properly. It doesn't seem like this is ready for public release.

### 5/5 — A different approach - and feeling my best ever

*2022-01-30, version 1.0.23*

Ive tried various online coaching plans over thr last ten years and have been frustrated with the inflexibility and lack of adaptation to where im physiologically at and feeling. Ive been following the plan pretty closely the last month and change and I can feel a difference over other years when i start training again for the spring. I feel the best I have in my running journey in quite some time! I have a lot more confidence in hitting my race goals this year and hopefully achieving my personal Everest - running an Ultra by year end.

Would highly recommend this program to anyone looking for an adaptive, data-driven approach to training.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Extremely annoying

*2025-08-08, version 1.4.9*

I really wanted to love this app, but it kept pushing extremely slow and short runs. If you’re running faster or longer, it makes future runs even shorter and slower, as if to punish you. It took me six weeks of patience until it finally started giving me normal runs- then I did a 10 km run in a mountainous area (so my heart rate was a bit higher…) and it immediately went back to the 15 min runs at 9 min/ km. I’m sick of it and I’m switching to another app.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2025-07-15, version 1.4.9*

If you are not an elite runner, then just forget about this app it will have you do ridiculously slow runs that are barely considered walking for months and months on end don’t believe into all of the artificial intelligence nonsense mentioned in the description. it is extremely bad, I wasted months with this app.If you ask their customer service for help, they will just give you a long copy and pasted paragraph about why those slow runs are helpful but trust me those runs are so slow you are barely walking. If you think that will help you improve your running then sure waste your money and time with this app.

### 1/5 — Not worth the money

*2025-05-22, version 1.4.9*

Super disappointed with the free trial of this app. Training for a 5km, the algorithm consistently gave me slow economy runs that made my training much less enjoyable. Most of these sessions were extremely short, only 9-10mins, which seems completely pointless. Won’t be paying for this app, it’s not worth the money.

### 1/5 — Terrible AI

*2023-07-15, version 1.2.2*

I’ve been using the trainer for 3 months now. Working hard, doing things I’ve never done. And the metrics for goal, speed, endurance all go down, down, down. And the program gives me completely unachievable runs. Leaves me feeling demotivated and like I’m underachieving when I’m working as hard as I’ve ever worked. This app makes me want to give up on running. Not for beginner/intermediate. If you want to goal yourself against world class athletes, then that’s the target audience for this app.

### 1/5 — AI is not smart at all

*2021-07-29, version 1.0.13*

I’ve been running for several years, about 30-50 miles a week and thankfully injury free.

That was until I started using TAO. Now I know I’m just getting older, so at first I didn’t blame TAO and just assumed it was my aging body. Correlation isn’t causation, after all.

I logged my injury in the app and told it to pause my training for 5 weeks while I recovered (you can set a specific date for TAO to start scheduling runs again). After I felt like I was recovered enough, I went ahead and ended my “training pause” in the app, but I did NOT clear my injury status (injury status and training scheduling are independent, which is actually nice).

First day after the 5-week pause it scheduled me an easy 11 min run which felt fine and pain free. Then strangely the immediate next day it scheduled me a 59 min run. And I’m about 11 weeks of using the app, that was actually the longest run it ever scheduled for me (prior to the injury the longest run was 52 min). I’m no training coach or expert, but that seems terribly wrong and dangerous. Needless to say I didn’t do it. I used the default settings for risk tolerance and such, yet asking me to run for 59 min just 2 days after coming out of an injury (without clearing the injured status, mind you), and that being the longest run it ever scheduled, seems very risky and reckless!

It was at this point that I felt like TAO is a bit dangerous. I’ll try setting it to the lowest risk tolerance possible and see if that’s better, but I can’t recommend this app based on my experiences.

### 1/5 — Most unpredictable running schedule EVER

*2021-06-07, version 1.0.12*

My boyfriend has this app on his android phone and the app has become my worst enemy. It will tell him he has an upcoming run for the next day and then change it at the last minute at least once if not twice before the next day. We cannot make any kind of plans without them getting ruined by this app suddenly changing its mind about how far my boyfriend has to run. It would only work well for someone who has no other responsibilities in life except waiting to find out this incredibly fickle app’s final decision.

### 2/5 — Poorly written

*2026-05-13, version 1.5.2*

I want to like this app, but it is very poorly written as an iOS app. Frustrating to use and very finicky, it’s not what I’m used to on this platform. Runna provides a much better experience.

### 2/5 — Not for me

*2025-04-18, version 1.4.9*

I simply didn’t feel the plan was responding to my efforts, and with a 10k race approaching I just abandoned it and went back to my regular intervals, long runs, etc. in a way that felt right to me. Maybe I should have trusted it but I don’t think it was preparing me well enough for my race goal, and I didn’t want to take the risk. I won’t be continuing with my subscription.

### 2/5 — Too Much Behind Paywall

*2023-08-02, version 1.2.2*

After Nike removed their custom training plans, I was looking for an alternative. This seemed like a good option, but it’s worthless unless you pay (and not great even then). The kicker is putting the audio prompts for the different pan steps behind the premium paywall. I shouldn’t have to keep pulling out my phone to know when to move on. The pace tracker is spotty at best and way overestimated how fast I was moving until after it was over. There are better options out there.

### 2/5 — Bugs

*2022-08-29, version 1.1.3*

I have been using the app for about a week and was really enjoying it, but the app has been freezing intermittently and I haven’t been able to open it for my last two workouts. While I still can view the training plan which is nice, my favorite part was the cues from the app which prevented me from constantly looking at my wrist or phone. This app would be great if it worked consistently

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Très satisfait

*2025-07-05, version 1.4.9*

### 5/5 — Fantastic

*2025-04-13, version 1.4.8*

Love how it builds a plan, specific to you, using your data. Creating a plan with a lot of variety that fits to fit into your schedule. A big advantage is you can have multiple goals at once. For example, having your primary goal as a marathon then add in a secondary goal to run a half during your training and the plan adapts. The team behind the app always respond well to feedback or questions about it.

### 5/5 — Awesome Training App

*2024-11-12, version 1.4.3*

I’ve been using TrainAsOne consistently for a year now (even though I’ve had the app for a few years.)
It took me a bit to fully trust in the app. Once I committed, within a few weeks I began to see how the workouts were coming together. As it gathers your running metrics and adaptations, it really begins to come together. I love the features and control over the program regarding how it interacts with me.
I am extremely happy; the app has become extremely accurate at predicting my race times.
Looking forward to more PB’s in the future.

### 5/5 — Good so far!

*2024-07-29, version 1.3.7*

I haven’t had the app too long (few weeks) but I liked that I could make a half marathon plan further out than what other apps offer. Some bugs with my garmin watch and tempo runs (messages saying I’m running to slow or too fast when it’s the opposite), but not a big deal. Excited to see new updates, so far this app is promising!

### 5/5 — Set a PB

*2023-12-08, version 1.3.1*

Hi got a half Mara PB taking off more than a minute from my prior best. I can run with a friend, skip a run or just run faster for the fun of it and this plan will work around it. I’ve not had an injury problem and I don’t feel perpetually sore or tired. There is assessment runs that need to be done which can be demanding and it can schedule multiple short runs at the start but once it settles down it handles variability very well.
I find it works best if you give the plan as few constraints as possible.

### 5/5 — Great training app

*2023-07-24, version 1.2.2*

This app is fantastic for structuring training in an intelligent way taking into consideration past activities and future plans to create a training plan that evolves with your fitness

### 5/5 — Eine App, die im Grunde konkurrenzlos ist.

*2023-07-13, version 1.2.2*

### 5/5 — Reactive training algorithm that works

*2023-05-18, version 1.2.2*

I have been using TrainAsONE for 3 months or so after recovering from an injury. Once the program had assessed my running correctly (analysis from my history didn’t seem to work) the programme suggested worked well, always just pushing me enough to improve a bit. I don’t fall for the artificial intelligence guff, but it is a very clever algorithm with only a few quirks when you are starting out but be warned, it will never replace a real life trainer.

### 5/5 — Well fitted running plan

*2023-03-02, version 1.2.2*

You cannot outperform if you follow the very plan cooked specially for you by master TAO.
Continually adapted to your schedule.
Just a little disagreement run assessments are coming too often.

### 5/5 — Very personalised plans to reach your goals!

*2022-10-21, version 1.2.1*

I started training this year for my very first races and the app truly adapted my training plan according to where my body was at to indeed avoid injuries and help me reach my goals realistically. It’s a pity that there is no Apple Watch app for it but I can use iSmoothRun for that purpose (although still not ideal with a separate subscription required).
