### 3/5 — New AI system needs work

*2026-07-31*

I’ve been a user for 5 years and greatly advanced my fitness to top amateur levels in BC. I’ve also learned a lot about the science and methods of training along the way. And it’s clear that the new AI system needs some work. It erroneously analyzes outdoor workouts and correspondingly the detections/predictions yo-yo around. That’s annoying and distracting, but not that big a deal. The real problem with all that is that it then picks the WRONG workout for you - the complete opposite of what they claim. The app and system are great, but I will save my money unless they can get this resolved. I recently started self coaching again with freely available AI tool support, and I’ve unlocked the fitness the TR AI was keeping from me for the past 6 months. So I’ll save the $300CAD per year from TR and put it towards something more productive for my goals for now.

If you’re a beginner, it’s a great place to start and learn about training. But if you’re advanced at training, I’d suggest to go elsewhere with your money and more importantly your time.

### 2/5 — AI not for everyone

*2026-07-20, version 2026.27.0*

The workout player is polished and the workout library is huge. The support team does their best to support a somewhat flawed product.

Unfortunately the latest overhaul of the app is heavily AI-focused, and it’s simply not ready for prime time. The team may get there eventually, but the current struggles are eerily familiar to the long wait for Adaptive Training to properly account for outdoor rides. The new AI was supposed to be the solution to that, but it still goes off the rails way too often.

The workarounds amount to adjusting your FTP to where you think it should be and choosing workouts that feel right. So if the workout library and player are worth the price, TR makes sense. Otherwise, probably not.

### 3/5 — Blank/Black Screen

*2026-05-12, version 2026.18.3*

TR has always been a bit slow to load but for a couple of days now it has become much worse, to the point that the app simply won’t open on iPhone 14. All I get is a blank/Black screen and I can’t get any further. Was working well otherwise.

### 2/5 — Disappointing

*2026-04-16, version 2026.14.0*

I did this app for a year and followed the structured training plan to a tea. I followed all the workouts and ended up just getting slower. Raced the same course as I did last year but got 2 minutes slower and just always felt horrible on the bike and felt like I was getting slower all the time. Potentially could be good for people who aren’t that serious into the sport. But for athletes who aren’t seriously trying to improve this isn’t the right fit. Seems they want you to have fun rather than gain speed. Typical week would include 3 workout days a week often doing VO2 and the muscles can’t handle that over the length of a season and I eventually just started getting much slower. Sad to see it. Now I have a human coach and seem to be progressing loads faster.

### 2/5 — Used to be awesome

*2026-03-28, version 2026.11.1*

Used to be my favorite app to train on the TacxNeo trainer. After the AI introduction everything takes so much longer. Can’t find my workouts. Please give us the option to go back to the prior interface and i will subscribe again

### 2/5 — App fails mid-workout

*2026-02-17*

I have been using TrainerRoad for the last two months and the app has failed mid-workout on multiple separate occasions. A couple of times, the app has dropped all my sensors, and then refuses to reconnect them. Another couple of times, if I stop pedalling mid workout to refill my bottles, when I restart, it skips a random chunk of the workout and drops me right in the middle of an interval further down the workout (this happened just now). The unpredictability and unreliability of the app is seriously making me consider alternatives. You should too.

### 5/5 — Super effective

*2026-02-15, version 2026.6.1*

I bailed off Peloton after two years of stagnant performance. This structured coaching is not only effective, but it takes me to the appropriate difficulty level every time.

FTP went from 266 to 310 in three and a half months. I’m not burnt out and am motivated to ride every time I get on the trainer.

I’ve also been super happy with the new AI feature. The adaptive training was great but the AI is next level.

I’ll never go back to “self-coaching”. This is a crazy good deal and while I hope they keep the price the same, I’d happily pay double.

PS - I never leave reviews but the negative comments left in the last month or so are either inaccurate or just a pretty clear indication of people’s laziness or inability to deal with app updates.

It is still intuitive

It still allows you as much or as little control that you might like

If people did not understand what they signed up for, maybe try the free trial first or do 6-9 seconds of research before putting your credit card in. What part of 30 days-risk free did you miss?

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2026-02-15, version 2026.6.1*

The is the best training program I’ve ever used! Was so-so on it at first, then I listened to the podcast and realized I was not using to program correctly. Now that I understand how the AI is being utilized to pick my workouts, and I use the Trainer Road selected workouts as opposed to picking my own workouts I’ve fallen in love with it!

### 5/5 — Amazing App

*2026-02-14, version 2026.6.1*

This has been a huge game changer for my training. I didn’t know what I was doing before TrainerRoad. Now every workout is perfect and not having to plan workouts myself is so helpful with all the other stresses of life. Loving all the new updates.

### 2/5 — AI “Features” Are Encroaching

*2026-02-14, version 2026.6.1*

If I set up a workout manually from the list on a given day, it constantly overrides it with the AI suggestions. Infuriating.

### 5/5 — Best training app out there

*2026-02-14, version 2026.6.1*

This is so, so much more personalized than any other training app I’ve tried. The AI is nearly always right about what I can achieve, even if sometimes I think a workout looks ambitious! Fitting around work means I’m not always very consistent about training, but TR seems to be able to take that into account. Love that I can now do my TR workouts in Zwift too.

### 5/5 — The new AI stuff is great

*2026-02-14, version 2026.6.1*

It seems like there’s loads of haters, but I think the new stuff is great. The new product is better at estimating your ftp. Everything still works fast and smoothly for me. The suggested workouts are a good fit. I’ve been seeing consistent steady gains for months now. FTP up from 210 to 253 still on an upward trajectory with a near record ftp at 55.

### 5/5 — Pretty Incredible Upgrade

*2026-02-14, version 2026.6.1*

I don't typically write reviews but the 1 star reviews because they moved a button in a phenomenonal FREE upgrade are not fair.

I couldn't be happier with my subscription to trainerroad. It has absolutely made me faster and features like "train now" make it easy to make progress even when time and circumstances don't allow for a full-on training program. And when I do have time, the training plans are an excellent ways to do structure without the considerable cost of a human coach. The way the software constantly adapts the plan based on what you are actually doing and your fatigue level is what initially won me over.

Is it perfect, probably not, but for me it's pretty damn close for what I need. And for the price I don't know how anyone can complain.

### 5/5 — Amazing

*2026-02-14, version 2026.6.1*

I am so much fitter, stronger, faster than ever. The new AI features give me a coach in the app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Great Idea, poor execution and customer service

*2026-05-12*

I have been on this app for just about a month. It routinely has issues, workouts don’t show up on iPhone or iPad, the Apple Watch integration for outdoor rides literally doesn’t work half the time.
When contacting customer service, the response is: oh yeah we know there is an issue, other people have reported them too but our app also is on Android and Windows too!
Oh nice so I paid $300 so you could tell the app doesn’t work on Apple products sometimes? That’s the solution?
I will be filing a complaint with Apple separately but please don’t waste your money if you intend to use this indoor or outdoor on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

### 1/5 — New app broke app completely

*2026-05-06, version 2026.17.0*

Like the April 10 review; app completely broken on iPhone

### 1/5 — New update broke it

*2026-04-10, version 2026.13.0*

New update rendered app unusable. Unable to load any workouts. App not functional at this time, despite subscription.
Previously, it was great, and I depend(ed) on it for training.

### 1/5 — Useless AI

*2026-03-04, version 2026.8.0*

New AI model is absolutely useless. If you want to do specific training your own choice, you can’t. It override it and not allow you to do it

### 1/5 — Disappointing new UX

*2026-03-02*

The latest UI revamp has introduced a couple of particularly frustrating interactions for those of us who manually choose workouts rather than relying on AI workout selection.

1. When browsing through workouts after selecting type and duration, selecting a workout opens a modal view of that workout to see specific wattage and interval durations. Clicking the x in the top right of this modal closes and erases the type and duration selections; you have to start over. This is a regression from previous versions where the x simply closed the modal. Yes, I’m aware of the back button in the bottom; this is a departure from how modals work in other applications.

2. After manually choosing a workout on a yellow day, the app will almost immediately replace that with a 30m recovery ride. This will happen so quickly that you can’t choose a workout and then, say, start the workout in Zwift before it’s replaced. Some of us with busy schedules need to work out on yellow days because we know we have a day or two coming up which we’ll have to take off.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not able to get the experience you're describing in situation #1. If I click on a workout, I can see all of the details in the side window, and my filters are preserved when I close that out.

As for #2, if you are manually choosing workouts and want to ignore the fatigue detection suggestions, you can turn them off in your account settings. Then we won't automatically adjust your schedule.

If you're having issues with either of these, please reach out to support@trainerroad.com. We'd be happy to help out!

### 1/5 — Broken AI

*2026-02-24, version 2026.7.1*

I loved TR for 18 months. It seemed really in sync with me and I trusted it to set my training just right. My monthly progress and FTP improvements aligned with my outdoor ride assessments.

Then they broke in with a new AI release that is just awful. FTP is now a proprietary score that has changed values suddenly. The AI predict your FTP is a gimmick. It slows down my system and spits out an ftp prediction for a month away than changes around d day to day it becomes a mental health issue for me.

In process of migrating to a platform that adheres to long term conventions so I can track my progress in industry understood metrics not a weird propriety one.

Very sad about this, it’s a shame when such a nice thing comes to an end

### 1/5 — Absolutely Terrible Update/ Deleted Account After 3 Years.

*2026-02-12, version 2026.6.1*

This app used to be so well laid out, and you could find the workouts you wanted easily. I recently updated the app, and in that time had been off the trainer due to having nice weather. I went back in the other day to use the app, and it was completely different, and now most of the workouts are gone, especially the Sprint workouts. Now everything is blocked into what the app thinks are where specific workouts belong. Also, it opens a web browse when you try to schedule a workout, and the AI they force on you is utterly useless, and a complete joke. This app was so good before, and I would have never thought I’d get rid of it, even paying for it in the summer, when I never use it, but overnight it has been reduced to a joke. Nail in the coffin for me, so my account is deleted.

### 1/5 — AI slop

*2026-02-11, version 2026.6.1*

Such a shame. This used to be arguably the best training app out there. But the “all new” version is just ai slop. It’s so prescriptive that it has ceased to be useful. Apparently, according to the developers the only way to train is what TR prescribes (it used to recommend- so was a useful training tool then). Such arrogance from the developers.

### 1/5 — Forced use of AI slop

*2026-02-10, version 2026.5.2*

Viewing my favorite workouts used to take 2 steps, now it takes 8 steps. Many people don’t want your AI features - make it opt in! I have zero expectation they will fix this; they’re great at replying with meaningless positivity, but no actual changes that indicate they care about user feedback.

UPDATE: TrainerRoad replied that they fixed my issue, but that is FALSE. Before the update, I could just click Workouts, then click Favorites. I just updated to the latest version of the iOS app, and this is what I now have to do: 1. click Workouts 2. click List 3. click Filters 4. scroll 5. click Custom 6. click Yes 7. click Favorite 8. click Yes 9. click Apply Filters

They clearly ruined the UX, and don’t care. It’s ridiculous!

### 1/5 — FTP

*2026-02-06, version 2026.4.7*

It’s not letting me do workouts with manual set FTP, ramp test doesn’t sync with my garmin bike computer and detecting ftp by ai doesn’t work. It’s useless app for now

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Getting faster with TR

*2026-06-18, version 2026.23.0*

I’ve used TrainerRoad for a few years. When I’m on the plan and stick to it, I always improve. The new AI feature is awesome and a great motivator to stick to the plan. It adapts to your schedule, outdoor rides, events… whatever life throws at you. TR Podcast is also a fantastic resource. Highly recommend!

### 5/5 — Use it or lose it

*2026-06-18*

### 5/5 — Get fit, get fast

*2026-06-05, version 2026.21.0*

Just do the work. It’s that easy

### 5/5 — Fails to load after update

*2026-05-12, version 2026.18.3*

Love the app and what you guys do. But seems like the latest update may have caused the app to load very slowly and that’s when it even does at all on my iPhone. I think my phone may have updated iOS recently as well so maybe it’s that, but either way thought I’d pass on that somethings up with app loading and it just started a couple days ago on my iPhone. I have not done the may 7 TR update or the latest iOS update on my iPad and it loads normally.

### 5/5 — Hate AI

*2026-04-16, version 2026.14.0*

New plan design does not give credit enough for outside activity. Discouraging change to program. Tells me I need to rest more. FTP decreases even when fairly loyal to plan. Considering dropping it after years of use.

### 5/5 — Excellent training tool

*2026-04-15, version 2026.14.0*

Been using for a year now having moved from Zwift. I find it much more structured and prescriptive. Was never a big fan of racing all the time. TR lets you dial in upcoming events (sportive, triathlons or trips) then provides a programme to fit into your work/life availability. If you stick to the plan you start to see tangible benefits and improvements in FTP which transfers out onto road/gravel. Definitely would recommend 👍

### 5/5 — Awesome!!

*2026-04-05, version 2026.12.0*

I’ve tried a lot of different training programs out there, and this one is by far the best IMHO. And now, with the addition of AI integration it’s gotten even better at recommending workouts, which is super helpful for those of us with a more random training schedule due to life and work getting in the way. Keep up the great work Nate and Jonathan (and your team). Love the TR podcast too!

### 5/5 — All about gains

*2026-03-21*

I have been using TR for 9 months now and my FTP has increased from 198W to 313W, my VO2 max has jumped much higher and I feel stronger than ever on the bike. It just works. The AI driven nature means it constantly adjusts based on your day to day activity, performance or if you have time off. I love the ability to tweak things if necessary and the vast number of workouts ensures variety and interest. With other training platforms I have either overtrained or simply not improved due to mediocre workouts, but TR has had me improving steadily month on month, staying fresh and feeling motivated to constantly improve.

### 5/5 — Train smarter

*2026-02-20, version 2026.6.3*

I’ve been using TrainerRoad now for around 10 years. I’ve always found it to be a couple of steps ahead of the competitors. At the minute it appears to be light years ahead of the other apps like Zwift or Rouvy. I would say if you want your training to count and you want to get faster sign up to TrainerRoad, if you want to play a video game go to Zwift or Rouvy. Time is precious use it wisely.

### 5/5 — Awesome app

*2026-02-17, version 2026.6.1*

Reliable for improving cycling fitness, love it!
