### 4/5 — Mostly perfect

*2026-05-08, version 1.4.10*

I’ve been using this app for the past three months and I honestly have loved it. There are the occasional glitches in the app where it froze or didn’t save something but for the most part it’s been great. The workouts, tutorials, and exercise swap features all for a wide range of equipment and gyms. I live in an area where the only place open early enough fr is Planet Fitness and I’ve been able to get very solid workouts in despite the limitations. So aside from the occasional tech issue and the lager process tag, I would say it’s worth it!

### 4/5 — Awesome but still has bugs/glitches at times.

*2026-04-12, version 1.4.8*

I’ve been using TrainWise for about a year now, and overall it’s been great. I mainly followed the 2 Minimal Program, which has been especially beneficial for me while balancing nursing school. It’s simple, efficient, and easy to stay consistent with.

The support system on Discord is also a big plus. The team is responsive and transparent—whenever issues come up with the app, they communicate updates and let users know they’re actively working on improvements.

That said, the app does have some bugs. For example, updating a workout split doesn’t always reflect across the entire cycle. Adding exercises to a specific workout day can be inconsistent, and logging weights and sets sometimes affects other exercises. There are also times when a completed workout doesn’t save properly—it may show “0 exercises completed” even after finishing and saving the session.

My biggest drawback is that the app relies heavily on an internet connection. At my gym, the signal is poor, so logging workouts can take a long time to save, which can be frustrating.

Despite that, I still really like the app. The workout splits are well-designed, and each exercise comes with a straightforward, no-BS guide from Sean. The programs effectively target the right muscle groups and cut out unnecessary fluff.

I would definitely recommend this app to lifters of all levels, from casual to more advanced.

### 3/5 — Everything is a 5, but the glitches are rampant

*2026-03-13, version 1.4.8*

I wanna give this app a 5. After using it since it released, the plans are on point, Sean is the man, I’ve seen very solid gains. But MAN, I’m fighting the app every single workout, over time it’s gotten to me. I’m keeping the app for all the other benefits, but I’m hoping this review can begin the process to fixing these issues.

### 3/5 — Not quite there

*2026-03-06, version 1.4.8*

Would be good but has too many bugs. Loading screens when alternating excercise are long or stuck.

### 2/5 — Good app for beginners; doesn’t always work

*2026-02-04, version 1.4.5*

Good informative app for beginners, however when you start using it 4-5 weeks in, lifts don’t record properly. I’ve had weeks worth of lifts just suddenly disappear. Frustrating

### 3/5 — I like Shaun but this app sucks

*2026-01-31, version 1.4.4*

Major bugs cause crashes between updates. I can’t even update a set before it crashes again. Every time it gets fixed it breaks a week later. I’m just gonna switch back to Biolayne

### 3/5 — Needs work

*2026-01-26, version 1.4.4*

I really enjoy the workouts on this app. However I have had several major bugs that need to be fixed. I have submitted an email and never got a response which makes me wonder if they even pay attention to the support page. The history on the exercises will sometimes confuse info and put weight and reps from a completely different exercise and muscle group onto the current exercise. ie I got the history from a tricep press for a dumbbell lateral raise. Please update and fix the app!!

### 4/5 — Awesome App!

*2026-01-16, version 1.4.4*

Great app! Awesome video tutorials. Just wish there was a way to scan and keep track of food in the app. Also, it would be nice to get some tips how to setup and get into position for the exercises

### 2/5 — Great programs, terrible app

*2026-01-15, version 1.4.4*

Big fan of Sean and love the program that I started in the app as well as the design. However, the app constantly freezes or crashes and have not been able to find a fix. Frustrating to start a program and then lose access to it with no other way to see what I should be doing if the app isn’t working. This is the second day I have dealt with this and I’m only on week 1. Definitely needs to iron out some kinks and I’m left feeling frustrated that I paid for something I can barely use.

### 3/5 — Decent

*2026-01-06, version 1.4.4*

It has a decent layout, but has a few bugs and could use several functional upgrades. Has potential

### 4/5 — Great start

*2025-12-31, version 1.4.2*

Being able to add warmup sets would be helpful (and a warmup calculator would be even better).

### 2/5 — Frustrating

*2025-12-27, version 1.4.2*

I’ve been using the app for six weeks now and it’s anything but smooth. Totally frustrating, it doesn’t track workouts correctly. I should have a history by now of my workouts but more often than not the reps and weights are missing when I begin my workout. The tracking is terrible. I have to record my reps and weights separately, so what’s the point? I did the recommended troubleshooting but still encounter the same issues. Pardon the pun but it’s an exercise in frustration.

### 3/5 — Good work out app

*2025-12-24, version 1.4.2*

Need to improve with food section ( update )

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — App Is Terrible

*2026-07-23, version 1.4.10*

So first I love the plan Sean has and I will keep following it. However I am coming from the RP app and this app functions horrible. From the main screen it shows your program. If you hit switch and go to upper/ lower (because I like 4 days. It won’t save that. I have to restart it every gym day. It will save your cycle info but you have to go all through the settings again. Second, once you edit the works outs it says “save for entire program”, you select yes. Next week all gone again. So probably going to take his plan and move back to the better app and use it that way. I hate that because I was hoping it would work great. Bummer.

### 1/5 — Super glitchy, deleting full workouts and bad UI experience

*2026-07-09, version 1.4.10*

This app is just poorly designed. Literally just completed a workout, but recorded me only having done 1 out of 6 exercises. Other times I’ll try to swap an exercise and it’ll just cancel the workout, displaying 0 exercises done. And I can’t go back and change anything.

Shoddy user experience. Would not recommend.

### 1/5 — What’s going on?

*2026-06-23, version 1.4.10*

TrainWise advertises a free trial and repeatedly emails you about it after creating an account. However, when I downloaded the app through the App Store, there was no free trial available. That was frustrating and felt misleading.

To make matters worse, customer service was unhelpful when I tried to resolve the issue.

Based on my experience, I’d recommend using MacroFactor instead. The app is excellent, transparent with its pricing, and offers a much better overall experience.

### 1/5 — Subscription for rudimentary app

*2026-05-26, version 1.4.10*

Hello! First and foremost, I want to say that I’m a huge fan of Sean N. I’ve been following him on Instagram for several years and genuinely enjoy his content, which is exactly why I wanted to give TrainWise a try.

One thing I found disappointing right away was that there’s no ability to explore the app at all before committing to a paid subscription. Despite that, I decided to purchase the quarterly plan to see what the app had to offer. Unfortunately, after spending time with it, I have to say I’m extremely underwhelmed.

From my perspective, the workout programs, nutrition section, and supplementation guidance all feel very basic and minimal. The workout plans themselves don’t offer anything particularly unique or advanced. You choose a category such as full body or push/pull, and then you’re essentially given a limited number of workouts. For someone training 4–5 days per week, there are many free apps on the market that provide similar or even better functionality.

The nutrition aspect was another major disappointment for me. While there are some recipes included, several of the recommendations are simply premade products like protein bars and some recipes can be time consuming to make. Overall, the nutrition side feels incomplete and somewhat lazily executed. I also didn’t feel like the meal recommendations were truly tailored to the goals the app asks you about during setup.

Tracking nutrition is also frustrating. The app doesn’t clearly guide users on how much they should be eating based on their goals, and when logging meals, I have to manually calculate and enter my own protein, carbs, and fats every single time. There’s no convenient option to save recurring meals, such as a breakfast I eat daily, which feels like a major oversight for a fitness app.

Another issue is that the app only seems to track calories and protein clearly, while carbs and fats are not easily viewable throughout the day. For an app focused on fitness and nutrition, that feels very limiting.

I paid around $70 for the quarterly subscription, and personally, I can’t justify the value based on what the app currently offers. I can’t speak for everyone else, but for me, it feels overpriced considering there’s nothing particularly innovative or premium compared to other apps available today.

I did reach out to support regarding my concerns and was met with a generic reply.

“”Thank you for your message.

We're so sorry to hear that you aren't completely satisfied with the app and appreciate you taking the time to reach out.

We have shared this feedback with our team to be reviewed.

Your support means everything to us, and we hope you'll continue on this journey with us.

Should you need any further assistance going forward, please let us know.
Kind regards,

Andrae””

Although the app is underdeveloped and basic, I still am a huge follower of Sean N. And his content he puts out.

### 1/5 — Instant paywall

*2026-03-19, version 1.4.8*

I’d like to at least tour the app before having to pay

### 1/5 — No trial period at all

*2026-01-07, version 1.4.4*

His videos claim there is a 7 day trial, but it just forces you to pay immediately without even seeing the app, which is kind of crazy. I’m not going to pay money for whatever might be in a mystery box. If the app is good I’d almost certainly pay for an annual subscription, but I have to know what I’m getting first.

### 1/5 — Not adaptable for my home equipment/Dumbbells only.

*2025-12-16, version 1.4.2*

Signed up because I have always been impressed with Sean. After reviewing the program, it is not adaptable for me. It has me doing barbell squats, I can’t change it to dumbbell squats which I have to do because of only having dumbbells. I’m supposed to do Bulgarian split squats, I can’t because being 65 with horrible knees. But the options to swap out the exercise is no help. I really think the adaptability of the app is over promised and under delivered. I cancelled my membership, so I’m stuck with one year of an app I can’t use. Don’t make statements about your product without being able to back it up. 1 star is a gift………

### 2/5 — Great workouts, terrible tracking

*2026-03-27, version 1.4.8*

Dont get me weong I like Sean a lot and his videos and workout plans helped out a lot. But the biggest problem with the app is it constantly deletes or overwrites previous exercises. I probably wont use the app again after my year is up unless its fixed.

### 2/5 — Tends to delete entire workouts

*2026-03-17*

I attempted to swap my last exercise out with a different one (since we don’t have the necessary equipment at our gym) and it completely deleted the workout, replacing it with 0 exercises, and making it impossible to add any new ones. This has happened on at least 3 occasions already, and completely kills motivation.

### 2/5 — I feel like it worked better when first launched, I guess it ran out of money to fix the breaks.

*2026-02-04, version 1.4.5*

Needs work. Same as previous reviews. The app either crosses history between exercises or loses it completely. I have had my leg set not complete and remains suck and unfinished. Another complaint is that the app will exit and restart a routine; it keeps some data have reenter history but will always reset the timer.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Well guided

*2026-07-26, version 1.4.10*

the guidance given makes one feel confident that I am following a program that is well thought out and intended to help one grow

### 5/5 — TrainWise

*2026-07-19, version 1.4.10*

I was skeptical about this app. Once I saw the science, because I believe in evidence-based methods, overall, I knew this was the next step to creating an overall athlete. I cannot emphasize enough the intensity and low volume workouts. You go hard two sets and then move to the next set. The science is there and I genuinely feel more of an increase in muscle, as opposed to multiple sets with high volume. It’s a great overall strength and hypertrophy program. You won’t be disappointed!

### 5/5 — Suggestion for free trial

*2026-05-28, version 1.4.10*

Hey Sean,

This is pretty pricey. I want to try but not before trying the app. Providing a free trial would greatly increase signup.

### 5/5 — Top Tier

*2026-05-06, version 1.4.10*

Provides all the content and guidance in a simple understandable manner to achieve your fitness objectives.

### 5/5 — Practical and structured beautifully.

*2026-03-23*

Sean Nalewanwanyj has been churning out quality content on YouTube for over 10 years with his no nonsense, no BS and tried and tested approach to building muscle. this App is a culmination of his expertise and knowledge on building muscle. It brings with Fitness programs which you can curate to your liking and is flexible in terms of how you want to structure it. The fact that it’s flexible makes it practical and easy to use. Please do give the videos in this App a listen beforehand. They serve as a great tutorial not only for how to structure your routine but it lays the foundation on how to workout correctly for years to come. All in all an excellent App.

### 5/5 — Shane

*2025-12-25*

Hands down the best workout app I’ve yet found that gives you real structured program options that keeps track of your lifts so that you know that you’re progressing weekly…

### 5/5 — Best beginner to pro fitness app

*2025-12-24, version 1.4.2*

Whether you’re just starting out to years into your fitness journey. The live workout feature provides ample alternatives in real time to customize your workout. Video previews of ideal form are also incredibly helpful. App contains a wealth of no bs, very helpful diet and general fitness advice as well.

### 5/5 — No Hype, indeed!

*2025-12-18, version 1.4.2*

If you want to cut through all the BS, this is the app / training for you. Sean is to the point on explaining everything. I’ve been training for 10 + years, yet I’ve learned so much from his instruction videos. The amount of knowledge he shares for the price is an incredible. Buy it. You won’t regret it!

### 5/5 — Great content

*2025-12-04, version 1.4.2*

Great exercice selection and explanations. Really simple routines with excellent results. There’s a good recipe section, but I didn’t really use it.

The app could gain from being optimized, it’s kinda slow.

### 5/5 — I like it

*2025-10-30, version 1.4.2*

It is good but I have issues with removing some food that I tracked so it’s more innacturste please fix this
