## What is Translatable?

Every language app teaches you "the apple is red." When did you last say that?

Translatable is different. It builds your flashcards from the words YOU actually use. Speak English into your phone, and Translatable finds the words and phrases you say most, translates them, and turns them into a personal deck—so you learn the language you'll really speak, not a textbook's.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Tap record and just talk—about your day, your plans, anything.
2. Translatable mines the vocabulary from your speech.
3. It instantly builds flashcards, complete with full verb conjugation tables.
4. Study, test, play and speak your way to remembering them.

The result: a course made of your own voice. The words feel relevant because they're yours—and relevant words stick.

DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY? GET INTERVIEWED
Not everyone wants to talk to themselves. So Translatable can interview you. Choose "Interview me" and it asks you natural, friendly questions—about your morning routine, your hometown, your favourite food—one at a time, like a real conversation. You answer out loud, and every answer becomes study material. It's the easiest way to generate a rich, personal deck in minutes. 50 themed interviews in all.

FIVE WAYS TO PRACTISE
• Study – classic flashcards with spaced review
• Test – check what's really sticking
• Fill-in-the-blank – lock in words in context
• Match – a fast, fun pairing game
• Speak – say the word aloud and get instant pronunciation feedback

A COACH THAT RUNS YOUR DAY
With Premium, your home screen becomes your Coach. It chains the day for you: study today's new words with a live progress bar, then clear your review — a queue scheduled by FSRS, the modern spaced-repetition model, so each word comes back right before you'd forget it. Words slipping away? Your Coach spots them and offers a rescue session to bring them back.

BUILT TO KEEP YOU GOING
• Daily streaks, XP and a personal goal — extend your streak by studying, finishing an interview, or just speaking for a minute
• Track your vocabulary and watch your CEFR level climb (A1 → C2)
• A daily new-word workout that drills today's words from easy to hard
• Suggested next steps every day — an interview, a curated deck, a grammar lesson
• Verb conjugation tables built into every verb card
• Beautiful themes, light and dark

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.4.0 — 2026-10-05

Six new languages

Translatable now teaches twelve languages. New: Portuguese (Portugal), Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Swedish, Albanian and Nepali.

• Start with the script: Korean begins with Hangul, Mandarin with pinyin and the four tones, and Nepali with Devanagari. The pronunciation guide steps back as you learn.
• Mandarin cards show tone-coloured pinyin, and the measure word for nouns.
• Korean verbs come with their polite, formal and casual forms.
• Nepali cards with "you" show both the friendly (तिमी) and the respectful (तपाईं) version.
• Every new language has its own decks from beginner to upper-intermediate, and a full grammar guide.
• Nepali and Albanian come with natural voices, and a Listen & repeat mode in place of Speak.

Also in this update
• Learning Japanese? You can now hide romaji under your words: Settings → Romaji.
• Fixed an occasional freeze when opening the app.

### 1.3.3 — 2026-10-03

• The words and phrases from your take that are ready to become flashcards now light up, one by one, right on your transcript, before the summary appears.
• On a long take the card scrolls to follow them. Tap the card to skip straight to the summary.
• The "Transcript saved" screen is gone.
• The wait after a long recording is gone. On a big history it used to take about a minute; now it's about a second.
• The words you say now fade in as you speak.
• Your first flashcards now arrive in the language you actually picked. A new install could get its first cards in the default language instead, and miss out on the free first-day cards.
• German verbs like "ausgeben" and "zuhören" now conjugate with the prefix at the end: "gebe aus", "höre zu".
• A streak freeze now shows in amber on your streak calendar, the colour of the daily streak it saves, instead of blue.

### 1.3.2 — 2026-09-05

YOUR RECORDINGS AND IMPORTS
• Stopping a recording while your phone was locked could lose transcripts you had already made. It can't now, and you're no longer credited with speaking time for a take the app failed to save.
• Cancelling an audio file import genuinely cancels it. It used to carry on in the background, add the transcript to your history and credit you with the whole length of the file.
• If an import can't be saved you can simply try again. It was being marked as already imported, which locked you out of that file for good.
• Zip exports now import. That's the format WhatsApp usually hands over, and it previously didn't work at all on iPhone or iPad.
• A chat you share into Translatable waits in a queue until you actually import it, rather than getting one chance and disappearing.

YOUR DECK ACROSS DEVICES
• Cards you delete stay deleted, instead of being put back by another device.
• Your notes, conjugation tables and pronunciation guides are no longer wiped when another device syncs.
• Mastery counts, and how often you've said a word yourself, can't go backwards.
• Delete Cloud Data now keeps your data off the server. The next sync used to upload the whole deck straight back.
• Signing into a second account no longer absorbs the previous account's cards without asking.
• A correction you approve, or a note you type onto a card, now reaches your other devices.
• Deleting your account can no longer leave data behind that nobody can reach.

WORDS COMING BACK WHEN THEY SHOULD
• Studying two evenings running now counts as two days. Answering correctly within 24 hours of your last session used to count for almost nothing, so the word came back the next night, and the next.
• A word you've just got wrong keeps its place in the day.
• Revealing an answer and reading it back no longer scores as though you recalled it unaided.
• Your most recent mistakes now reach the Rescue drill. The list filled up at two hundred and then refused anything new.

BETTER CARDS FROM YOUR OWN WORDS
• Full phrases instead of fragments — and no card claims to come from more recordings than you actually made.
• Everyday phrases built on "have" and "do" can become cards: have breakfast, have lunch, do homework, do the dishes.
• Verbs arrive with their conjugation tables even if the translation service was slow when the card was made.
• A word on your Never Suggest list can no longer slip into today's new cards.
• Deleting a card no longer retires that word for good.
• Your daily new-word target is respected. Some people setting 20 were finding 55 waiting.

SPEED
• Launch and study are quicker on large collections. The app had been re-reading your entire collection seven times at launch, and again after every single answer.

### 1.3.1 — 2026-09-01

• Fixed crashing when cards are generated post chat import.

### 1.3.0 — 2026-08-30

• Share anything into Translatable. Select text in any app and share it over, or send in a chat export — your everyday conversations become your vocabulary. Spanish and Portuguese chat exports now import properly too.
• Delete any card. Swipe it away in your Word Bank and it goes from every device you're signed in on.
• New: Never Suggest. Tell Translatable a word isn't worth learning and it won't turn it into a card again. Long press a card to add one, and manage the list in Settings.
• Much better cards from typed text. Typos, keyboard smashes, "hahaha" and chat slang never become cards; "dont" and "don't" are the same word now; and everyday phrases like "pick up", "find out" and "hang out" mine the way they always should have. "I think" and "I guess" are treated as the useful phrases they are rather than filler.
• Fairer streaks. Practising just after midnight counts towards the day you're still living in, streak freezes are spent when they should be, and the counter always matches the calendar.
• A new icon
