Translate text and photos without internet. Translate Studio runs machine translation models directly on your device. Download a model once and it works offline. Thick walls, lower floors, planes, expensive roaming abroad: the connection drops exactly when you need to read a menu, a label, or a street sign. Translate Studio keeps working with a weak connection or none at all. PHOTO TRANSLATION Take a photo or import an image. Translate Studio recognizes the text, translates it locally, and places the translation back into the image while preserving its layout. - Menus, product labels, signs, and documents - Small print and curved surfaces such as jars and bottles - Switch between the original and translated views, and zoom in - Deep Scan for low-contrast or tightly packed text PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your text and images are processed on your device and are not sent to a translation server. Downloading a model is the only time the app uses the network. Some text does not belong in a web service at all: a medical result, a rental contract, a letter from a lawyer, a work document covered by an agreement, a message from your family. Translate Studio is useful when the language you need is outside that list, or when the text is complex enough that a larger model helps. You can also compare how current open machine translation models handle different languages and kinds of content. SIMPLE OR ADVANCED Use the recommended settings for a straightforward translation experience. Enable Advanced Mode to choose additional model variants, pick a quantization that trades download size against quality, adjust text-recognition resolution, and read per-model notes before downloading. A translation model must be downloaded before offline translation is available. Download size, supported languages, speed, and translation quality vary by model, language pair, and device. ## Version history (last 4 releases) ### 1.3 — 2026-08-29 • A new translation model: MiLMMT-46 4B from Xiaomi. It covers 46 languages, is the largest model in the app, and measured the highest quality of the four in our own testing. It is now recommended on devices with enough memory to run it. • Traditional Chinese now returns Traditional Chinese. It was previously coming back as Simplified Chinese. • Long text is no longer cut short. Pasting several paragraphs used to translate only the beginning of it. • Auto Detect no longer blocks or degrades translation on some models. • The model catalog and the downloader have been reworked. Clearer rows and progress, a recommendation that matches what your device can actually run, and a warning before you download a model that is too large for it. Downloads are now verified against their published checksums before a model counts as installed, cancelling one properly discards it, and downloading a large model no longer runs out of memory on smaller devices. ### 1.2 — 2026-08-09 Translate Studio now runs on iOS 17 and iOS 18. The app no longer requires iOS 26. If you've been holding off on updating your iPhone or iPad, you can install and use it now — the camera Lens, Deep Scan and every translation model work the same way, with controls drawn to match your version of iOS. Translation runs on the GPU and needs an A14 chip or newer — an iPhone 12, iPad Air (4th generation) or later. On earlier chips the app now says so plainly on the translate screen, instead of closing unexpectedly. Also fixed: • The app could close without warning when a model ran out of memory mid-translation. It now shows an error you can act on, and keeps your text. • Errors from the translation engine are reported instead of ending the app. Everything still runs on your device — your text never leaves your phone. ### 1.1.2 — 2026-08-06 Translate Studio now speaks your language. The app is fully translated into 13 new languages: Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish and Ukrainian. It follows your device language automatically. Language names are now shown in your own language and sorted the way your language sorts them — so the list reads naturally whether you're browsing in Japanese, Russian or Hindi.
