When checking planned itinerary against the realities of transport, it really seems to nail it, helping me make informed choices. Very excited to use. I will come back and upgrade to 5 stars (and subscribe for next trip) if the practice lives up to the prelim theory OR if Vienna becomes available before we get there in time to download! Please? 👍 Thanks for this! ### 4/5 — Great *2015-07-19, version 1.5.3* Really helpful ### 4/5 — Excellent for use when traveling without data access *2014-12-04, version 1.5.3* Unlike other travel apps I tried this one can provide directions without needing Internet access, a godsend when traveling without a data plan. The only complaint, and this is a minor issue, is that the routing between stops, and from your current location to the start point using a bus or train, is point to point rather than along streets. Thus you can't really tell which is the closest stop in terms of walking time when your destination is between stops, and if you have to cross a bridge to get to your start point it will potentially send you to the closest stop as the crow flies, not the shortest in terms of actual walking. Still, overall extremely useful. ### 4/5 — Very Useful But Limited *2013-10-28, version 1.2.1* Paul Bridger has made a useful app with many good features, worth it for the offline maps alone. If you have basic knowledge of Istanbul's transport systems, it can be useful. But for short-term visitors to the city, it lacks important features. I have not tested it extensively, but here's what I noticed on a quick look: 1. I input the name of my hotel. It didn't recognize it. Yes, Istanbul has thousands of hotels, but that is what the traveler will want to input, not the address. 2. In input "Atatürk Airport." It didn't recognize it, though it did recognize "Atatürk Havalimanı," and helpfully brought up that suggestion so I didn't have to wonder whether it would recognize "Havalimanı" or "Havaalanı," both of which are used in Turkish. 3. For the route to the airport it rightly shows using the T1 tram to Zeytinburnu, then the M1 Metro to the airport, but does not show so clearly that there is a transfer at Zeytinburnu. (Remember, this may be the first time a non-Turkish-speaking travelers has taken a trip on the Metro and tram). 4. Input "Sirkeci" as starting point and "Eyüp" as destination and you are shown a list of 12 destinations in the municipality of Eyüp, all of which have names beginning with "A." The Eyüp Mosque, a traveler's likely destination, is not among them. Inputting "Eyüp Mosque" yields no result, nor does "Eyüp Camii." So the app will not help you get to Eyüp. 5. Input "Sirkeci" as starting point and "Küçüksu Kasrı" as destination and the app shows clearly that you can take the T1 tram, then two bus rides via the Bosphorus Bridge and Üsküdar, reaching the destination in 48 minutes. Good! But in Sirkeci you're right at the Üsküdar ferry dock! Hop on the ferry direct to Üsküdar and catch the bus from there. The trip is likely to be shorter, certainly more pleasant, and perhaps cheaper—but the app does not help you with that. I admire the courage, expertise, and hard labor it took to develop this app, and it may have a great future ahead of it. For now, it is certainly useful to any visitor or inhabitant of Istanbul, and you should get it. But, like all databased knowledge systems (including, especially, GPS), it is useful but not perfect. Use it along with other information sources to plan your trips.
