## What is Trap.nz?

Trap.nz is the collaboration tool of choice in the march toward Predator Free 2050. Used and funded by many of NZ's regional councils it provides project coordinators, volunteers, and landowners the ability to each play a core role in dramatically improving the environment we live in.

The app is your on the ground tool for mapping, locating and managing trap, monitoring site and bait station records:

	- Simplified data entry (no more spreadsheets)
	- Seamless on-line / off-line synchronisation (no network coverage required)
	- Built in 5 minute bird count functionality
	- Real time status of installations
	- Scheduling and daily logs
	- An array of base maps including topographic, street, aerial and parcel boundaries
	- Integration with many remote monitoring tools (such as econode and celium)

To get started you will need a Trap.NZ account and a project. It's free, so sign up and join or create a project at https://trap.nz, then see our App help section - https://trap.nz/help/app.

Trap.nz takes away the need for in-house GIS skills and for larger projects removes the many hours of managing spreadsheets. Providing evidence and accountability for funding becomes trivial.

With a Trap.nz project you get:

	- User management (control access levels, assign traps etc)
	- Access to powerful reporting including Heat Maps (all at the click of a button)
	- Printable maps (great for non-techy team members)
	- Reporting across multiple projects
	- Import and export data at any time (for use in other systems)

Trap.NZ is provided by the passionate folk at Groundtruth Ltd with the amazing support of:

Northland Regional Council

### 5/5 — Awesome app.

*2025-11-15, version 6.3.29*

So easy to use while out on my lines. And great for keeping track of my team. Fantastic support person.

### 1/5 — Crashing

*2025-07-26, version 6.3.28*

Says awaiting permissions for a second then crashes

### 5/5 — Best tool besides a trap

*2025-06-30, version 6.3.16*

Went entering data on your phone or from the website this tool links perfectly together. As an administrator for a couple of projects we could not be without this app. Thank you and keep up the great work. Mark J

### 4/5 — Improving

*2025-05-16, version 6.3.16*

Still has the odd quirk which could possibly be user error but I think all the bugs I’ve isolated and mentioned either here or in the forums have been resolved so well done.

### 1/5 — Bug when retiring a trap

*2025-03-01, version 6.3.14*

This bug is terrible. The only workaround is to reinstall the application, force quit doesn’t help.

Steps to reproduce (I think):
- Walk a line. You will see the pips along the top of the screen, one per trap.
- Select a trap and retire it. The number of pips along the top of the screen doesn’t seem to change.
- As you keep walking the line, the traps you have done turn green. The ones you haven’t (including the one you retired) are still grey.
- Select the grey trap. It looks like you missed that one, did you forget that’s the one you retired?
- The whole phone screen goes white. Force quit doesn’t help.
- To recover from this point, reinstall the app and walk the line again from the beginning.
- To avoid the crash maybe exit out of the trap list view back to the map after retiring the trap. That might cause the dodgy pip to disappear.

### 2/5 — Still flawed, which is a pity

*2024-11-10, version 6.3.7*

Still a lot of flaws on iOS.

GPS is jerky, takes three pushes to get indicator to correct location and I can only get app to stop using GPS if I restart my iPhone.
Also only shows traps I have placed. Seems a shame no progress has been made in two years to fix known issues

### 1/5 — Keeps crashing

*2024-10-24, version 6.3.3*

When turning on location settings get a blank screen on iPhone. This happens frequently. I don’t what to be tracked always on this application so turn off as setting “only while using” doesn’t logout after use. Lots of flaws. Getting past this as check my traps daily, may resort to pen and paper recording as app is so bad

### 2/5 — Terrible

*2024-08-15, version 6.2.30*

Can’t get it to load. Then when I can, it stores information incorrectly or has issues storing.

### 1/5 — Completely useless

*2024-05-09, version 6.2.30*

One of the worst apps I’ve ever tried to use. More problems than I could list
