## What is Travel Planner Map?

Travel Planner Map is a cross-platform app (macOS and iPad) that lets you save and organize locations on an interactive map. Each location can be assigned to a customizable category (like Restaurant, Campground, or Mountain Biking), tagged with hashtags, annotated with rich-text notes, and optionally accompanied by a photo. Locations are displayed as color-coded pins on a map, and you can search, filter by category visibility, plan driving routes between saved places. Data syncs across all your devices. You can use the Mac version to import and export collections of locations to share with your friends. 

The app also features a weather station system — you can add named locations (cities/towns) and view weather overlay data on the map for different time periods, making it useful for planning trips around seasonal conditions. On macOS, locations open in dedicated editor windows with a full toolbar, while on iPad/iPhone the UI adapts with sheets and a slide-up location list. The app seeds sensible defaults on first launch (preset categories and a set of U.S. weather stations). The weather data shown in the app comes from weather records from the last 5 years only to give a better estimate of what the upcoming years weather.

I created this app, initially, for my own use for planning camping trips with my family with our trailer. I wanted to track the places we might want to go all over the US and the times of the year that we might want to go there. I wanted to know what times of the year are too hot, too cold, or too rainy. Not many people have used this app yet, so I am hoping to get feedback. Post reviews on the App Store with feedback and request new features.

- First launch is dramatically faster: the built-in National Parks now include coordinates, so all 63 pins appear instantly instead of loading over about a minute.
- Search is much faster when you have many locations with notes.
- Importing locations paces geocoding requests, making large imports more reliable.
