## What is Trawl?

Your cookbooks deserve better than collecting dust. Point your camera at any page and Trawl extracts a clean, searchable recipe in seconds — ingredients, steps, prep time, and tips, all perfectly formatted.

No typing. No transcription errors. Just open, scan, cook.

SCAN ANY COOKBOOK, ANY LANGUAGE
Trawl reads cookbook pages in any language. Whether it's your grandmother's Italian classic, a Japanese baking book, or a dog-eared French paperback, Trawl extracts structured recipes you can actually use. Recipes that span two pages? Trawl merges them into one. A page with three short recipes? You get three — real cookbooks aren't one-recipe-per-photo, and Trawl knows it. Register your cookbooks by scanning the ISBN barcode and organize recipes by book and chapter — just like your shelf, but searchable.

GROCERY LISTS THAT WRITE THEMSELVES
Pick the recipes you want to cook this week. Trawl combines all the ingredients into one consolidated shopping list — no duplicates, no guesswork. Meal prep starts before you leave the house.

YOUR PERSONAL RECIPE ASSISTANT
Ask Trawl anything. Search across your entire collection by ingredient, cuisine, or dietary need. Create new recipes from a description. Import recipes from YouTube videos. The chat assistant understands your library and helps you find exactly what to cook tonight.

AUTOMATIC TAGS & COMPLEXITY SCORES
Every scanned recipe is automatically tagged with dietary labels — vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and more — plus a complexity score so you know what you're getting into on a Tuesday versus a Saturday. Filter and browse without ever tagging anything yourself.

SYNCED EVERYWHERE
Your recipe collection lives in iCloud and stays in sync across all your devices. Scan in the kitchen, shop from your phone, cook from your tablet.

BUILT FOR PEOPLE WHO OWN COOKBOOKS
Most recipe apps want you to browse their collection. Trawl is different. It works with the cookbooks you already own and love — the ones with bookmarks, sticky notes, and sauce stains. Your recipes. Your library. Searchable, shoppable, and always with you.

GET STARTED FREE
Scan your first 50 recipes and send 25 chat messages at no cost — enough to try it with your favorite cookbook and see the difference. All recipes you scan are yours to keep forever, even on the free tier.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.23.0 — 2026-08-04

• Books and social accounts now share one shelf, called Sources. Both say how many recipes came from them, and an account you have emptied disappears from the list.
• The Return key sends your chat message instead of adding a blank line.
• A proposed change shows the line it replaced directly above the new one, so a rewrite reads as one change instead of a deletion and an addition at opposite ends of the card.
• Ask for recipes and the chat numbers them, so you can just say "the second one".
• Importing a link from the clipboard now works for social videos, the same video no longer arrives twice, and the progress bar disappears when the import is done.

### 1.22.1 — 2026-08-01

• Fixes the subscription screen getting stuck on "Loading..." when the App Store is slow to respond — it now retries cleanly.
• Small stability improvements around subscriptions.

### 1.22.0 — 2026-08-01

• The first run asks whether you have a cookbook at hand. If you do, it opens the camera on your own page; if you don't, the app runs the first scan itself on a sample page.
• Coming back out of that first recipe, the getting-started card hands over: that's scanning, now it's your turn.
• The Books tab now says what a cookbook is for before it asks for one: pages scanned from the same book file themselves under it, and recipes without a book stay reachable.
• Adding a book points out the barcode scanner, which was easy to miss beside the search field.
• Choose a recipe's cover straight from its scanned page: drag the frame over the picture you want and keep it. The page itself stays with the recipe.
• Steps that were printed with their own numbers are no longer numbered twice.
• The empty chat now asks for a recipe instead of describing itself: three openers you can send with a tap, and cards naming what it can do — search your own collection down to the page a recipe sits on, turn a link or a photographed page into a recipe, and change a recipe by asking.
• Ask the chat for easy recipes, or for a particular cookbook, and it filters exactly the way the Recipes tab does, using your own effort thresholds.
• Editing a recipe in chat keeps its photograph, and the updated card appears where the change happened.
• The assistant follows up on what it just did instead of falling silent after a card, and says it in its own message rather than gluing it to the previous one.
