## What is Trax?

Trax is a GPS logbook for tracking dog training.

First, the track layer walks the route and drops items along the way. Trax records the track and marks every item on the map. Later, the dog follows the scent trail with its handler, and Trax records that too. When you are done, you see the laid track and the dog's route together on one map, with track age, distance, finds and the weather.

LAY A TRACK
• Record the route with GPS while you walk
• Tap Marker to drop an item at your exact position
• See the distance since the last item while you lay the track
• Choose the track type: track, IGP track (turns counted automatically), blood track or search
• IGP tracks: pick a level, see your steps against the requirement and lay the track by a template on the map
• Lay cross tracks: a fresher track that crosses the main track
• Add notes about terrain, conditions or anything else you want to remember
• Note which dog the track was laid for, and pick training elements

RUN THE TRACK
• Choose the dog when you start, so every session is saved to the right dog
• See the countdown until the track has the right age, also on the Lock Screen
• Get an alert near an item or a crossing track, and when you lose the track
• Spoken alerts in AirPods or the speaker, even with the screen locked
• Lock the screen and keep the phone in your pocket: a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island shows the track and has Pause and Found buttons
• Mark finds automatically when you reach an item (optional)
• Record how the dog indicated each item: down, sit, stand or retrieve
• Blind track: the laid track and the items stay hidden until you stop
• Night mode with red light, so you keep your night vision
• Standard map, topo or satellite

SEARCH
• Article search and area search: draw the field or area on the map, or pick a ready-made size
• Place items and people, and see the time to each find
• Optional time limit with an alert when one minute is left

BLOOD TRACKING
• Shot site, flight direction, wound bed, blood stop and game
• Amount of blood, tracking shoe or hoof, and track age up to 48 hours

SEE THE RESULT
• Both routes on one map, with found and missed items
• Play back the track and watch the dog's route over the laid track
• Deviation from track: see how closely the dog followed it
• Track age, distance, time, wind and weather for every session
• Give a rating, difficulty and learning point, and rate the training elements after every track
• Filter completed tracks by dog and follow progress over time
• Set goals with a deadline for each dog and follow the progress
• Trim the start or the end of a track

YOUR DOG'S TRACK FROM A GPS COLLAR
• Does your dog wear a GPS collar, such as Garmin or Tractive? Add the GPX file from the collar to a finished track
• See the dog's actual route over the laid track and your own route
• Playback shows the dog and you as two dots, with the distance between you
• Trax finds the right track from the time, and asks which dog if the file has several

SHARE AND EXPORT
• Share your track on social media, laid over your own photo or on a map, with many layouts and colors
• Send a track to another Trax user, for example when one person lays the track and another runs it
• Send a track blind, so the handler only sees the start
• The track layer does not need an iPhone: lay the track in any GPS app that saves GPX, with waypoints for the items, and run it in Trax
• Export to PDF, per track or as a report per dog
• Export and import GPX files

LANGUAGE
Trax is available in English, Norwegian, Swedish and German. It follows the language on your iPhone, or you can pick a language in Settings.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no login and no ads. Your tracks are stored on your iPhone, with a backup in your own iCloud Drive. GPS is used only while you are recording.

Made for handlers, instructors and anyone who trains tracking, whether for fun or for competition.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 2.5.2 — 2026-10-27

• The user manual now covers everything new in 2.4 and 2.5, with new screenshots.
• The bubble introducing the dog page is easier to read in both light and dark mode.

### 2.5.1 — 2026-10-26

NEW IN 2.5
• New track detail: a large map at the top with playback, tabs for Overview, Deviation, Items and Conditions, and a new chart showing the deviation along the track. The track is centered in the map, and you can drag and zoom the map directly.
• Tracks that are waiting have the same look, with the map at the top and the track age below.
• New dog page: tap the paw on the home screen to see key figures, goals, training elements and progress for each dog. "Import track" and the user manual are now in Settings.
• "Crosses here" on IGP tracks: tap where the cross track will cross, and the crossing counts towards the IGP requirement and gives an alert when the dog tracks past.
• Indication on article search (down, sit, stand, retrieve, passed) and area search (passive alert, bringsel, bark alert).
• Correct finds after saving: tap an item and pick Found or Not found.
• A scale bar on the maps, and tracks without a name get the place name and date, such as "Stavset 25 Oct".
• Rotate the IGP template and shape the search field with one tap and drag.

BUG FIXES
• The IGP requirement for FH 2 and FH 3 now counts crossings, so one cross track that crosses the track in two places gives 2/2.

### 2.3 — 2026-10-24

NEW IN 2.3
• IGP levels and requirement check: pick a level (IGP-V, IGP 1–3 or FH 1–3), see your steps against the requirement while you lay the track, and get an alert if a turn or an item comes too early. "IGP requirements" then shows what was met.
• IGP template on the map: lay the track by a template for the level, with legs, turns and items. Trax tells you when the next turn is coming.
• A compact IGP panel while laying: pick the level from a menu and turn the template on or off with one button, so the map and template stay visible.
• IGP training: note food on the track, start, turns and track layer, and watch the food being reduced over time.
• Indication per item: pick down, sit, stand, retrieve or passed with one tap after "Found". On IGP tracks you can also record a false indication.
• Working time and an IGP level filter in the dog's progress chart.
• Training elements: create your own, such as "Acute turn", pick them when you lay the track, and rate them afterwards.
• Goals per dog: set a goal with a deadline, such as distance and track age, and follow the progress on the dog card.
• Laid for dog: note which dog the track was laid for.
• Pick the dog with buttons, and add a new dog right where you pick.
• The map stays put when you drag it. Tap the location button to follow again.
• A tidier Alerts page and a simpler save sheet after the track.
• "PDF for dog" in the app's colors.

BUG FIXES
• The new version card on Home shows German text when the app is in German.

### 2.2 — 2026-10-21

NEW IN 2.2
• A new design, with a new home screen that shows this month's tracks, distance and finds.
• Mark finds automatically when you reach an item. Turn it on in Settings.
• See the distance since the last item while you lay the track, and the distance between items in the track details.
• Send a track blind: the receiver only sees the start.
• Choose the app language in Settings.
• Press and hold Stop, so a track isn't ended by accident.
• The track age alert now comes five minutes before the track is ready.
• Trax asks before saving the same track twice.
• The share image for area search shows the handler's and the dog's routes.
• Turns are now counted and shown only in IGP tracks.
• New markers for handler and dog in playback, and track colors in the lists.
• A brighter night mode, where the track and your position are easy to see.

BUG FIXES
• Received tracks show the right distance, not "0 m".
• Playback shows the whole track, also when you zoom in.
• The wind arrow shows in the full-screen map, also when the weather was only fetched when the track was laid.
• Deleting a ready track on the home screen deletes the right track.

### 2.1 — 2026-10-18

NEW IN 2.1
• Your dog's track from a GPS collar: add the GPX file from the collar (for example Garmin or Tractive) to a finished track, and see where your dog went compared with you and the laid track. Playback shows the dog and you as two dots, with the distance between you.
• Trax is now available in German.
• The share image has five new layouts, more colors and a choice between satellite and standard map.
• Trax lets you know on the home screen when a new version is ready in the App Store.
