### 3/5 — “Try again later”

*2026-05-15, version 2.0.9*

A generally good app until a recent update… when searching live times, I frequently get a “something went wrong: please try again” message. I also get an error message when trying to open the app sometimes too.

### 4/5 — Underrated but underfeatured

*2025-12-24, version 2.0.4*

It isn’t perfect but by all means it’s definitely one of the best I’ve used. Few apps come as clean as this, it’s ad free and clutter free, and I’ve never come across a major deal breaking bug, unlike a lot of what’s out there.

However, the one thing this app does fall short of is features. As in, features that are either no brainers or really cool new ideas that are mentioned and listed in the app, but turn out to be an external link.

Sure maybe a live map or delay repay is a bit hard to implement, but it sucks that the status page doesn’t actually give a list of lines with a traffic light system like the SNCF Connect app and instead has a button that links to one of the most complicated pages I’ve seen.

Overall it’s a really good app and I use it for all my journeys even outside Wales, but it’s be nice if it was more featured and didn’t just have links to the TfW site for features it claims to have.

### 2/5 — Rubbish since update

*2025-11-30, version 2.0.2*

The classic phrase “if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it” springs to mind. Since the update a few months ago this app is terrible for buying tickets, keeps unselecting railcards logging you out etc.

Just look at recent reviews, every one posted since the update is 1 or 2 stars for a reason.

### 3/5 — Latest update 2.0.2 has made app sluggish and unresponsive

*2025-11-24, version 2.0.2*

The app was fine on 2.0.1, the redesign was mostly an improvement and performance was good, but 2.0.2 has been a downgrade so far, some input fields clear themselves, payment doesn’t go through sometimes, and loading times and confirmations take longer across the app

### 1/5 — Keeps getting worse.

*2025-10-21, version 2.0.1*

Since TFW bought the line this app has had two big updates. Both have made it worse. It was promised the app would add in TFW cards, it never has. However the first update made it need signal to show tickets which there is none of on any network half way to next town when inspector passes and also required you to set up a whole new account. The second has removed favourite tickets so instead of just pressing on my normal multi time a week ticket I have to type in both departure and destination, change the ticket type from single to return and add the travel card on from the massive list of every card in U.K. I swear the next app will have pop up adds or mine bitcoin! What we need is a way to save and buy TFW railcards, what we get is constantly worse with anything useful taken out.

### 2/5 — Can’t buy tickets

*2025-10-18, version 2.0.1*

For some reason the buy ticket button does nothing when I click it

### 1/5 — Not working

*2025-10-17, version 2.0.1*

Today it stopped working?! Why.🤬🤯second time last 3 months

### 4/5 — App won’t update on my iPhone

*2025-10-09, version 2.0.1*

That’s it. Review complete. Old app worked but not anymore.

### 1/5 — Screenshot

*2025-10-07, version 2.0.1*

Recent update now unable to screenshot tickets/qr code when delayed to use for delay repay.

### 2/5 — Not responsive

*2025-10-07, version 2.0.1*

The v2 version of the app is rather slow and compare with the older app. It would be nice to have a native app that can run smoothly.

### 1/5 — Apple Wallet

*2025-09-29, version 2.0.0*

Does no work with Apple Walket

### 1/5 — New and useless version of app

*2025-09-26, version 2.0.0*

What the hell have you done to the App? It doesn’t recognise the codes for stations, it tells me that journeys I put in are not possible, it defaults to Newport Essex and won’t allow
Me to change it Newport Gwent… disaster.

### 1/5 — Pants upgrade

*2025-09-25, version 2.0.0*

I am could not remember my password so clicked on password forgotten. It sent me an email to reset so did so. Then would not let me login saying my password was incorrect.
So I tried to create a new account. It is impossible as you need to accept the terms of contract. But there is no way of doing so as there is no button to do so.

### 1/5 — NO HELP WHAT SO EVER

*2025-09-07, version 1.3.2*

stuck in craven arms no trains running from here no bus replacement.looks like i’ll be sleeping in the station till 4am waiting for

### 2/5 — Not good

*2025-09-01, version 1.3.2*

Very difficult website

### 1/5 — Don’t download

*2025-07-11*

Tried several times to download before arriving in Wales. Continued to get try again later.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review. To download a UK app in the US, you'll need to temporarily change your App Store or Google Play Store region to the UK, which requires a UK payment method. Alternatively, you can create a new Apple ID or Google account linked to a UK address and payment method. We would recommend you using our website to purchase your tickets https://tfw.wales/ using Google/Apple Pay or PayPal.

### 3/5 — App keeps blocking me

*2025-06-29, version 1.3.2*

Yesterday I bought tickets through the app and got a message that I had been blocked for security reasons because of one of the actions I had taken. I still got an email with the tickets. Today I tried to buy more tickets and got the same spurious message and again the tickets appeared. There is obviously something wrong with the Transport for Wales app that urgently needs fixing!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Visually impaired traveller

*2026-04-11, version 2.0.8*

Very difficult to navigate. Takes too long to find train times. I use screen reader I want to know the train times first not wait for all the pricing which takes too long. In between train times shows all information about refund tickets which is not necessary when I just need the train times. Quite put this information in between train times, more suitable as the end. Train times also difficult to navigate too far too many train times examples. When I put in my trade on time and go to find tickets, I find that the train times have returned back to the present time. It was much easier to use before the update for simple which gave me quick information. Now by the time I’ll try and find the train times I’ve missed the train. No point crowding the information with all sorts of examples of times. Just give me what I want. Clearly and simply. You are just updating just for the sake of it and making life much more difficult for me as a screen reader user

### 1/5 — App keeps signing me out and won’t remember favourites

*2026-03-28, version 2.0.8*

This app is hard work. Have to put in departure and arrival stations at least twice every time. Constantly logs you out every time you use it

### 1/5 — Buggy as hell since new redesign.

*2026-02-10, version 2.0.4*

Doesn’t load half the time, when it does, then the stops dont load when planning a journey, then even if the stops load and I go to buy the ticket, there is an error.

Absolutely horrible. Sometimes I will be sitting there waiting for the app to damn load to show my ticket and the conductor just waits there.

Be better, put that budget that is used for the metro into fixing this horrible app.

### 1/5 — Needs Offline Mode

*2026-01-22, version 2.0.4*

If you are on the train and need to show your ticket and have poor or limited signal the app doesn’t load.

If you have bought a valid mobile ticket there is no option to add it to your google or Apple wallet, you can with train line, please update the app to allow this feature.

Seems like a huge risk and oversight

Update: to the devs, yes if you are purchasing a new ticket you can buy a ticket that goes into your Apple wallet, the issue is if you have already bought a ticket which is not one that gets added to the wallet and have to load the app. The app needs an internet connection it seems to load in general so I’m sat on the train with a blank screen and ticket guard stood over me.

### 1/5 — Performance has only been worsening since 2.0.2

*2025-12-22, version 2.0.4*

Note: For anyone looking for an alternative to this app since its steady decline, it may take some getting used to but the uber app has no booking fees. If anyone has any other alternatives they prefer I encourage them to share in their own reviews.

I made a previous review when 2.0.2 came out as it was the first update to hit app performance after the redesign, and since then it has got progressively worse with each update. There are now many missing icons and fonts, it’s even more sluggish to navigate and important settings like showing step-free access stations only, which is crucial for some, are hidden behind obscure and hard to find menus.

### 1/5 — Latest update broken

*2025-12-19, version 2.0.4*

Worked fine before this update. Now you can’t even
Enter the station named. Have to use Trainline instead.

### 1/5 — Needs Offline Mode

*2025-12-16, version 2.0.3*

If you are on the train and need to show your ticket and have poor or limited signal the app doesn’t load.

If you have bought a valid mobile ticket there is no option to add it to your google or Apple wallet, you can with train line, please update the app to allow this feature.

Seems like a huge risk and oversight

### 1/5 — Currently unusable

*2025-12-11, version 2.0.3*

This app has taken such a turn for the worse. Constant issues with typing, the first letter of the station when you type deletes. When you choose a station you can’t confirm it. Totally unusable.

### 1/5 — Pointless

*2025-11-22, version 2.0.2*

This has to be one of the worst apps I’ve ever downloaded. Click on anything and it takes you out of the app and onto a browser. May as well just use the website instead.

### 1/5 — Garbage since redesign

*2025-11-04, version 2.0.1*

Just missed my train because this app keeps on signing me out. Finally signed in, bought a ticket and it popped up with an error. Restarted the app, had to sign in again, was about to buy the ticket again when I got a bank notification confirming the purchase. Ticket wasn’t showing in my wallet. Restarted the app, sign in AGAIN and the ticket is now there. Tapping on the ticket showed the usually buttons to download & view the ticket. Tapping to view the ticket did nothing (I waited a good 10 seconds). Restarted the app and finally managed to get through the barrier, but too late, train was gone. On top of this one experience, whenever I switch to a different app, even though I have the ticket open in this app, the app loads again and I have to go through the process of entering the wallet & clicking view. This wouldn’t be a problem if the app was quick, but it’s a good 5-10 seconds for the app to load and then another 5 seconds at least to open the ticket, even longer or impossible if the signal is bad. Not ideal when one of your conductors is checking tickets. The old app looked clunky, but at least it reliably worked…

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Love the new app

*2025-10-08, version 2.0.1*

New app is great, really user friendly, great design consistent with TfW branding, so good to see the PAYG updates too! Great work

### 5/5 — Good

*2025-08-14, version 1.3.2*

Good

### 5/5 — Good little app

*2025-06-21, version 1.3.2*

I regularly use a TFW line and this app always gives the best priced fare with no booking fees. A few friends have started using it for the same reason.

### 5/5 — Good app

*2024-11-10, version 1.2.9*

Its very good apps. Easy to take various type of tickets and manage tickets on the app

### 5/5 — Surprisingly good

*2024-02-26, version 1.2.5.1*

TFW are an appalling train company. Their trains are either late or cancelled, if they do turn up there are never enough carriages for passengers who wish to travel. Quite astonishing, therefore, that the app is really pretty good. Credit where it's due, It's clearly laid out, easy to use, and I genuinely can't think of any problem I've ever had with it. Sadly, I can't say the same for the rest of TFW......

### 5/5 — Love it

*2023-11-28, version 1.2.2*

Easy to use, reliable, great:)

### 5/5 — Great and easy to use

*2023-10-04, version 1.1.90*

Second time using since downloading and it’s been great so far!

### 5/5 — Great App

*2023-06-13, version 1.1.70*

Great app, but very slow to load since the latest update, even on a fast data/Wi-Fi connection. Whether this is down to the sheer number of people using it, or TfW’s servers, I don’t know. But it’s frustrating when you’re trying to load your ticket to use at the barrier.

### 5/5 — Brilliant

*2023-01-27, version 1.1.50*

"Oh my gosh, I just downloaded this app for buying train tickets in Wales and it is a game changer! Seriously, I can't believe I ever put up with the hassle of standing in line or calling to purchase tickets. This app is so easy to use and I was able to buy my tickets in just a few minutes. Plus, I even got a discount for booking in advance. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling by train in Wales. Five stars!"

### 5/5 — 80/20

*2022-06-05, version 1.1.2*

Whilst sometimes the app takes time to load when trying to show ticket on the train, otherwise I find it very easy to use - clear, concise, practical.
