### 2/5 — Too many technical problems and images missing

*2024-01-02, version 5.2*

This app has the potential to be an excellent resource. The written descriptions of trees are good. However, there are no images of the trees described so it’s not possible to identify the trees by sight. Attempting to use the majority of the home page links results in the app crashing (at least with iOS 17). It’s too bad that, as is, the app is not practical for use; there are too many technical issues with it.

### 2/5 — Looks like a great app

*2023-11-12, version 5.2*

Tried clicking on several menu icons like east side trees and it kicks you out of the App. So not fully functional.

### 4/5 — Excellent ID tips

*2023-05-07, version 5.1*

The tips to identifying trees in PNW are well-written. Not just for beginners, there is something for everyone learning about our most common trees. App crashes frequently, especially on iPad Air, but I simply restart.

One photo error though — please fix! The “leader” photos for western red cedar and hemlock are identical.

### 4/5 — Tree Pics Disappeared after Update

*2023-02-20, version 4.1*

Hi Cliff,
I just wanted to thank you for the PNW tree app.. When it works right it’s the best tree app I’ve ever used! It had been working great until I downloaded the update today (iPhone). After I downloaded the update, all the tree pics disappeared. Just wanted to let you know.

Thank you for all of your hard work!

Sincerely,
Bill Hughey

### 5/5 — It’s back!

*2022-11-20, version 4.0*

After downloading (and loving) this app years ago, it eventually ceased working, as other users described. However there was an update in March 2022 so I downloaded again and gave it another shot. And the trees are back! Everything seems to be working as expected. This app is great for people who want to proactively learn to identify local PNW trees without the need to pull out their phone. It’s a great companion to a more traditional identification app.

### 5/5 — Finally learning the trees!

*2022-11-04, version 4.0*

I’ve bought so many tree books and have even taken a local tree ID class, but this app is what helped me the most when it came to learning and identifying trees in the PNW. Thank you for creating this app!

### 3/5 — Yo

*2022-10-02, version 4.0*

All is pretty legit! Only thing I would suggest adding is full photos of the trees in the identifying descriptions.

### 5/5 — Wonderful APP Loaded with info

*2022-08-30, version 4.0*

I have had this app for nearly four years now and granted there was an issue, but was resolved.

It truly is an amazing app with tons of detailed information of each species of trees along with several photos. Of the different apps I have on nature this is by far the best one. My hat is off to the developer, excellent job!

### 5/5 — Newly rewritten

*2022-03-18, version 3.0*

Hi, the app is newly rewritten. It should work fine in newer phones. Give it a try! Cliff

### 3/5 — Trees PNW

*2021-11-28, version 2.0*

Update 11/2021: I spoke with the developer a couple months ago telling him how much I missed the app. He said he was updating it and would get it done “soon.” I do hope he gets it done this winter. I would pay for this app. When it was working it was a 5 star app. Now it is a 1 star app. But I gave it a 3 star rating to split the difference. Keeping my fingers crossed.

This app used to work and it was my favorite app for tree ID here in the NW. But now it is broken. I opened it and there are only 3 species listed. No photos, no text for any other trees. Touch the #1 tree and nothing happens. I have tried deleting the app and downloading it again but it won’t download completely. Only 3 species! What the heck is wrong with this formally great app???

### 2/5 — Used to love this app, now buggy

*2021-09-21, version 2.0*

Not sure what happened. The app used to work for me, but now nothing loads, no descriptions, no photos, only the home screen. Sad. Used to love this app and recommend to friends. Can you fix it, please?

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Used to be great app

*2024-01-03*

When working, this app is the best app for tree ID that I’ve used. Unfortunately, it no longer gives me access to all the photos and ID information when I swipe. Is this due to an iPhone upgrade? I would love it if this app could be fixed. Thank you

### 1/5 — Should be great, but it is useless as is

*2024-01-02, version 5.2*

Main page opens, but as soon as any menu or button is touched, the app crashes and closes. The first time I used the app, it had pictures of Douglas fir trees for every single tree. 0% helpful.

### 1/5 — I hoped they fixed it but…

*2022-01-26, version 2.0*

Still does not download. IPhone 12, great WiFi, nada. Please update your app—seems like so many want this!!

### 1/5 — Doesn’t start up on iPhone 12 Pro.

*2021-11-17, version 2.0*

Doesn’t start up on iPhone 12 Pro.

### 1/5 — App freezes when downloading data

*2021-10-22, version 2.0*

I’ve tried rebooting my phone and reinstalling the app, but no matter what I do, the app freezes up after downloading the first two or three trees into the database.

This makes it useless, unless I want to know about the Mountain Ash.

### 1/5 — Such promise. Such disappointment.

*2021-10-19, version 2.0*

I was really looking forward to using this app. I installed it and set my phone to never sleep while the app tried to download the photos…but the progress bar never got more than a third of the way complete despite a good internet connection.
App now lists a grand total of three tree species with no photographs.
Like another reviewer reported, I deleted the app and all data, and then tried reinstalling it. Same result.

### 1/5 — Images won’t download

*2021-10-17, version 2.0*

Progress bar stops with roughly 15-10 percent completion.

### 1/5 — Useful idea - but dead app. No support.

*2021-09-27, version 2.0*

Poorly supported dead in the water app. Started out as a useful thought - but never maintained to any useful degree. What a shame.

### 1/5 — Many issues

*2021-09-27, version 2.0*

My main gripe with this app is the funky font. The app as a whole feels clunky, but the fonts and typography are just ridiculous.

### 1/5 — Won’t Load all Trees

*2021-07-22, version 2.0*

Seems like a great idea, but I can only get three trees to load and pictures are not included. I wanted to use this app for a high school ecology class, but…

### 5/5 — Works perfectly

### 5/5 — Outstanding app for PNW tree identification

*2024-05-25, version 5.4*

Very beginner friendly, thorough, and full of fascinating facts and pictures.

### 5/5 — Even better now

*2024-05-18, version 5.4*

May 18th Image Download Problem fixed with update.

### 5/5 — It’s Fixed-It’s a great app again!!

*2024-05-15, version 5.4*

When working, this app is the best app for tree ID that I’ve used. I’m so excited to start using it again! Thank you, Cliff, for all the hard work you have put into it.

### 5/5 — PICTURES!!!

*2023-05-03, version 4.1*

I'm so excited!! I was going to delete like I always do the second an app disappoints but I just couldn't for some reason. There is something about this app. It's so well done. It feels like a labor of love. I know the pictures not showing up is a problem and they did not load for me as well. But I kept it. And kept checking back. It's been a week. And today the pictures are all there. BEAUTIFUL images. I'm so glad I kept it! I've been trying to understand the forest I live in and THIS is the app for that. Thank you for all your hard work.

### 5/5 — Fantastic Species Identification

*2023-04-15, version 4.1*

Initially the Photos didn’t download, but a quick note to Support and the problem was fixed.
Beautiful, sharp Photos of all aspects and ages of trees. Abundance of identifying details given, plus discussion of historical and modern uses.
Best Tree App for the PNW I’ve found, by far.

### 5/5 — Finally learning the trees!

*2023-04-05, version 4.1*

Plus fix so that the pictures load! I love this app but after updating, the photos don’t load anymore.

I’ve bought so many tree books and have even taken a local tree ID class, but this app is what helped me the most when it came to learning and identifying trees in the PNW. Thank you for creating this app!
