### 2/5 — Please make updates

*2026-06-20, version 2.6.0*

The options are great but the basics are lacking and really should get fixed.

1. I should be able to see from the Home Screen whether devices are on and what they’re set to. I turn off devices and sometimes they haven’t responded but I have no way of knowing that other than going outside and looking.

2. When I go into a device it should not automatically change the lights to the default setting. It should either open up to the setting they’re already in, or open up to any setting but not switch to that setting unless I confirm I want it to.

3. Simply turning on/off lights should be an option from the Home Screen. Right now to turn off lights I have to click into the device (which again changes it to the default setting) then I have to click settings, then off, then back, then back, then exit. Absurd.

### 2/5 — Remarkably unstable

*2026-05-02, version 2.6.0*

I can configure my lights perhaps 1 of every 6-7 attempts. It’s dramatically unstable, either failing to connect or dying mid-configure. Even just updating firmware required a dozen attempts. Incredibly disappointed and will likely replace the trimlight controller with something open.

### 2/5 — Offline

*2026-04-09, version 2.5.8*

Timer works just fine. However, every time I go to change the light colors and scheme, the app is offline. Always have to unplug the main control unit and plug it back in for it to reconnect. No issues with my internet. Fix the issue!! These lights were not cheap.

### 2/5 — Not intuitive at all

*2026-04-03, version 2.5.8*

When you set a timer to come on at sunset, it sets sunset for that day. Winter time sunset is much earlier than summer sunset & it doesn’t account for that plus but it’s EXTREMELY difficult to change. Been trying to change ours for several days to no avail.

### 2/5 — Terrible app

*2026-03-23, version 2.5.8*

I moved into a new home that already had these installed. However, the timer is horrible!! It never works right, constantly having to turn lights on and off again or I wake up in the morning and they are still running when they were to shut off at 11pm. I do all the “tips” to get them to work and they just don’t, don’t waste your money on something you can never use!!! Thankfully I didn’t pay for these!

### 1/5 — Not great

*2026-03-22, version 2.5.8*

Buggy and annoying. The app doesn’t always even connect. I have to turn my phone on and off. When it does work it always turns on Canada day. I can’t use the “timer” part of it.

### 2/5 — Easy to use, but too limited and buggy

*2026-03-09, version 2.5.8*

The basics are easy to use, creating patterns and animations. That’s where the positive ends.

The scheduler doesn’t work right, selecting a single scene doesn’t work and instead the “combined effect” runs.

The system doesn’t actually understand sunrise/sunset, it just grabs the time for the day the schedule was set. Reading the documentation, I don’t think the system even understands DST rules.

Keyboards aren’t context aware, so every time you need to enter a number you have to switch the keyboard to the number page.

Opening the app defaults the lights to the first scene, rather than the active scene.

Update the name of the “Save” function from “Cover”(?!?) to “Save”. This is a silly thing to not have fixed immediately.

Preset programs are cool, but would be more functional with the ability to create custom color palettes.

System needs some basic UI improvements to be an appropriate match to a costly installation.

Update now that we have entered DST: Shocking, controller nor app understand daylight savings rules. Sync time function also does not work. In order to get the controller time to sync to the device, you have to disable auto sync, tap the “now” button, and then re-enable auto sync. App seems to indicate it will update the time after pressing”now”, but it does not. Too many bugs.

### 2/5 — Lights

*2026-02-11, version 2.5.8*

The lights are great! Software sucks

### 3/5 — Latest update

*2026-02-10, version 2.5.8*

After updating the app, the Fireworks function will not work at all. All patterns created with Fireworks will not work. Also sections of my lights will not work with certain patterns.

### 1/5 — Great lights, terrible app

*2026-02-07, version 2.5.8*

Love these lights. Professional installation, great look. This app is so unintuitive it’s frustrating to use. Not even worth the one star. Yes it works, but simple things like accessing the app changes your lights.

Want to set a timer? Sure, after you figure out the right sequence of events to save it. Good luck getting sunrise/sunset to work. It uses the sunrise/sunset time when you created the timer, and doesn’t auto update.

Ended up replacing the Trimlight controller with an open source WLED unit and couldn’t be happier. Now I can fully enjoy these lights.

### 1/5 — So disappointed !

*2026-01-24, version 2.5.8*

I will repeat what most users have shared. The lights themselves are awesome. Trying to use the app to control/set up the lights has been absolutely horrible. Myself as well as many neighbors in my 55+ community that have the lights have given up out of frustration. We’ve just stopped using them.

### 1/5 — App needs some work

*2026-01-21, version 2.5.8*

Everytime I open the app it changes the lights to CANDA DAY.
The schedule feature doesn’t work either

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Worst App Ever?

*2026-08-11, version 2.6.0*

I’m color deficient visually but I can tell the difference between white and green. GUI is confusing. Multiple areas to make changes that conflict with other editable areas in the app. Maybe they’re disgruntled family members? It’s like Elon Musk created a casino as an app to control your lights and your car won’t start.

### 1/5 — Great lights terrible App

*2026-08-01, version 2.6.0*

This app worked good for a bit now I’m getting all kinds of connection problems. This app looks like it was made by a kindergartner. Update it already!

### 1/5 — App is a fail

*2026-07-01, version 2.6.0*

Fix the weakly developed app. Update everyone’s control box. I have to reach out to support each season when I want to use these lights. You owe it to you end users. Fix the problem with the app, and registering to the cloud. Make it easier. This is ridiculous

### 1/5 — Terrible software…worse support

*2026-05-28, version 2.6.0*

Horrible UI flow, scheduler frequently stops working. Not worth buying Trimlight for how bad this app performs. Stay far away

### 1/5 — Elementary

*2026-05-24, version 2.6.0*

The lights themselves are awesome. The install looks great and the actual product is high quality. But the app is unbelievably bad for how much this system costs.

The Trimlight app feels extremely elementary and unfinished. Schedules randomly stop working, the UI is confusing, and half the time it feels like you’re fighting the app just to make simple changes. The calendar feature doesn’t even work accurately, which completely defeats the purpose of automated lighting schedules.

For the amount of money customers spend on these systems, there is no excuse for such a garbage app experience. Trimlight seriously needs skilled app developers because the software side of this product is years behind the quality of the lights themselves.

I wanted to love the whole experience, but the app makes it frustrating way too often.

### 1/5 — don’t update. This deletes good aspects of prior version

*2026-05-05, version 2.6.0*

I wish i could uninstall this version. Last version you could use music sync with Spotify on your iphone and play through external Bluetooth speakers. This version blocks the dual use of the music sync so you are forced to choose between Spotify on phone and sync lights with the music over the phone or Spotify and Bluetooth speaker and no sync

### 1/5 — Update process

*2026-04-30, version 2.6.0*

It’s so difficult to update this app, also one zone is stuck on blue and won’t sync back with the other zones. Nothing fixes it, powered it down, checked the connections just stuck. Should be easy, but it’s difficult!!!!!

### 1/5 — Love the lights - please improve the app!

*2026-04-15, version 2.6.0*

I absolutely love the effect of my Trimlight, but this app is very difficult to navigate and desperately needs to be reworked and improved

### 1/5 — Owner

*2026-04-08, version 2.5.8*

Worst system ever always offline. Don’t buy this!

### 1/5 — Glitchy

*2026-04-03, version 2.5.8*

These are horrible. Every time I go to turn on the lights there is an issue and I have to call the unhelpful trim lights customer service. Do not buy these

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Pretty simple. Does what it should and more.

*2026-08-12, version 2.6.0*

After reading through the other reviews, I was concerned about this app. But, after having the lights on my home for awhile, I’m convinced the people complaining are either bad with technology or super technical and expect way too much. It’s pretty simple to navigate and program the lights. This app does everything I’d expect it to and has many features I don’t even use. It can use some updates but I’m sure those will come.

### 5/5 — Horrible App

*2026-07-17, version 2.6.0*

This app is the worst I have ever used. I always get the “failed to sync” error even though my wifi signal is great. It’s been two days and I still can’t get it to sync so I can access the app. The schedule portion is a joke. Every time you access the schedule you have to re-do your schedule. There is no way to save it. And it isn’t easy to figure out how to make it use your schedule. If you select the wrong option you have to re-do the entire schedule. If I would have known this app was so terrible I would have bought a different brand of lights. And there is no way I can recommend this product and it’s worthless app to anyone! If you want nothing but frustration, buy Trim Lights and its miserable app.

### 5/5 — Corrected

*2026-06-09, version 2.6.0*

Marco was fantastic when fixing our issue!

### 5/5 — Easy to Use

*2026-05-26, version 2.6.0*

Once you learn the general layout of the app it’s easy to navigate. I love creating custom patterns and colors for every holiday and special occasion!

### 5/5 — Great!!

*2026-05-06, version 2.6.0*

It took me a minute to figure out the correct way to use the app but once I did it’s very easy and user friendly. Play with it learn it you will love it. One hint… always go to timer when you are leaving the app and it will be set every time

### 5/5 — Edge

*2026-05-06, version 2.6.0*

Love this app

### 5/5 — Easy to use

*2026-05-05, version 2.6.0*

I find this app pretty easy to use to customize the lights, it’s pretty straightforward and there are videos online that go into deep detail if you don’t understand

### 5/5 — User Friendly App

*2026-02-27, version 2.5.8*

This app offers a ton of customization!

### 5/5 — Picky users

*2025-09-18, version 2.5.6*

I think that when I read some of these reviews that people are being overly picky about what their expectations are with the app I’ve had it four years and I don’t believe that there are problems with the capabilities of the app as it was made to be used I think it’s a great app. I think it’s user-friendly

### 5/5 — Seems like the best app among competitors

*2025-05-22, version 2.5.5*

I’ve now used Trimlight and two of their competitors products between my house, my in-law’s house and a buddy’s bar. I’m probably a bit biased because I have the Trimlight system, but it is so much more convenient to use than the other two.
