This was the first I tried, and while not specifically the Dev’s fault, they should warn purchasers that cell coverage along the route is spotty at best and often nonexistent. This means no commentary. Also, if you do the tour in anything other than the set order, the directions are pointless and a waste of time. Don’t waste your money! ### 3/5 — Needs Improvement *2023-09-09, version 9.0.7* Downloaded the app to use two walking tours. Thankfully, they were free. The routes were not circular, and following a random map in a strange city is not helpful. Pushing a stroller, juggling a phone, and navigating a map…. Put the phone away, and just wandered the streets. Will not take the second tour. Recommendation to developer: The tour should give you the information, then tell you “turn left/right/keep going, go ___ blocks/distance to next stop.” ### 2/5 — Lots of dead time, misses a lot *2022-08-01* We did the LA to San Diego tour in June and we’re disappointed in this audio tour. We had previously done a similar tour in Oahu through another developer and it was amazing. This particular tour had LOTS of dead air time and could have covered so much more. This route is not as scenic as I had always heard, so the first half in particular was rough. There were many points of interest that were missed and some of the narration was very brief and could have been much more informative. The drive took a lot longer than anticipated because this route has tons and tons of stoplights, so prepare for more time than is estimated. It is inexpensive, but we thought we wasted so much of a day. ### 2/5 — Very buggy to use *2022-07-11, version 8.0.14* The app kept freezing and I needed to close and relaunch it at every stop on the tour. Very frustrating and nearly unusable. For this reason I will not buy further tools through here. Content (Haunted Winnipeg) was solid but repetitive. Could have focused more on some specific stories rather more general accounts of rattling, sightings, and “feeling a presence.” ### 2/5 — Vancouver tour *2022-04-24, version 7.3.109* Bien qu’on visite Gastown un quartier en vogue, la moitié du trajet se passe sur une rue en déchéance plein d’itinérants, de drogué et de vendeurs de drogues nous avons eu peur de cet endroit.. heureusement que la fin était mieux.. le parcours a besoin d’une mise à jour, des restos suggérés ont fermé, une statue a disparu.. je ne recommande pas ce trajet ### 3/5 — Interesting, but could be better *2021-08-21* This app has interesting tidbits of information, along with some trivia questions to try to keep you entertained while driving. Our party felt it was worth the $5 we spent. The app worked as promised, but I can’t give it more than 3 stars because: 1. It does not provide turn-by-turn instructions, so you need someone else in the vehicle to provide you with that. 2. It has to be left running and uses a lot of battery. 3. It does not work with Apple CarPlay (although it does work with Bluetooth, so we were able to get it to play over the vehicle’s speakers, but it did use a lot of battery in doing so) 4. The font on the app is too large for my iPhone 11 screen and when I tried to download, I got an error saying that I used the wrong code. When I finally realized I was trying to download a slightly different tour than the one I purchased, I was able to do it, but only after uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This was partly my fault (for not realizing I had clicked into the wrong tour), but it wouldn’t have happened if the wording for the tour hadn’t overlapped the pictures of the different tours. ### 5/5 — quite different *2018-04-01, version 4.0.2* We've done a GPS tour before with GPSY tours, thought we'd give this one a go. It's really quite different, in a good way. Whereas GPSY tours tells you where to go (so to speak), Tripvia's "questions" are laid out on the road your already going to be driving on. I say "questions" becuase although each one has a multiple choice question, there's so much more.. general information, things to do, popular people, etc. Oh and it's funny! The guides are more like actors as they often do impersonations and deliver funny jokes. I highly recommend this to anyone. ### 4/5 — family app *2018-03-31* You won't be disappointed! What a great way to start a really fun day. They even had a question on Canada's Wonderland! I had no idea what a Gigacoaster was.. now I've been on one! Really fun app. ### 5/5 — pretty fun *2018-03-31, version 4.0.2* Is it a game? Is it a tour? Is it a magical voice coming through the speakers who knows where I am? Whatever it is it's pretty fun. We didn't really keep score, just guessed at the questions which was still fun. To be honest you don't really even have to answer the questions, just listening would be great too. App HORRIBLE! *2022-09-03* There were so many things wrong with this app, it’s hard to say what was the worst! I’ll just give the FACTS based on our experience. 1. App crashes constantly - yup, just stops working as you approach a stop, not every time, but on a roughly 25 stop tour the app crashed at least 10 times. Which leads to my second big issue…. 2. Where are my tours - you often purchase the tours in advance, at home where you have great internet. Time passes, you go to the city where the tour starts, open app, hmmmm… might make sense that you would see a list of the tours you’ve purchased, NOPE! You have to hunt through their menu until you find the one you purchased and start the tour. Oh, by the way, every time the app crashes you have to do the same thing!!!! 3. Where was I ? Also very annoying, you can jump to the spot where you were by hitting the map but it doesn’t actually take you where you left off, ours always took us to the intro…. 4. Bring a portable charger- As others have mentioned, this thing will drain your phone faster than anything I’ve ever seen. ### 1/5 — Basically unusable *2022-07-18, version 8.0.14* Tried to do a tour in Winnipeg and the app is unresponsive, super slow, repeatedly crashes. On iPhone 10R ### 1/5 — Broken app *2021-08-15, version 7.3.24* Paid for it and couldn’t download a single trip. Called the contact number and apparently they were aware of the problem but there was no ETA for fixing it. ### 1/5 — Not enough tours *2018-05-20, version 4.0.14* I only got 4 and they each cost over $5. The two I might use are very short. Would want a longer distance for paying that amount. ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — Fun addition to the road trip *2026-07-30* Driving up the California coast and we purchased the Santa Maria to Monterey tour. Downloaded the tour ahead of time (definitely recommended) as there are places along PCH that will have no coverage. Amazingly, the GPS aspect of the app never wavered, each leg of the tour automatically began as we approached it. Loved Jefferson’s humor, tone and pace of delivery. Canyon in the Yukon and it was fabulous! We learned a lot and loved that it was so flexible. It was spooky and so much fun. The narrator told us where to turn and how far it would be. On longer walks the narrator told spooky stories of the area. Well worth the money!!
