### 3/5 — Needs better progression and balance

*2026-03-27, version 1.44*

So I made it to wave 10 and retired. These runs take a long time, yet I got no blueprints unlocked and barely any rewards. Instead I get a bunch of new, strong enemies now and nothing to show for it.

Shouldn’t I feel like I’m getting stronger? I’m now losing on earlier waves as the difficulty spiked. It’s expected to become harder as you progress through waves, but the early game is just not manageable anymore.

Some suggestions:
* decrease the rate of unlocking enemies
* stronger enemies shouldn’t spawn until some # waves pass
* increase stats that carry over based on what I manage to unlock during the run
* decrease tentacle cost or increase rewards

### 1/5 — Fun, but rigged

*2025-04-30, version 1.44*

The game is fun, but definitely rigged. Enemies show hardly ever near swords so they are giving you damage while you’re trying to match 3 or more to be able to attack them. If you attack them without swords, if you just swipe on them, they stick around for a couple rounds, all the while hitting you with more damage while you hit them with hardly any. The game is rigged and they want money for this. No thanks. Thankfully the base game is free. I would never pay money for the computer to beat me in just a in few minutes. Make it to where you at least have a chance and then I might pay for it. As it stands, Dungeon Raid is still the king of these games, but sadly that developer abandoned his chefs kiss of a game. Seems to be the standard of all these iOS apps and games, developers abandoning their apps and games. This is the main reason why I don’t purchase apps and games, because they take your money then abandon their apps and games and leave you with an app you can’t play because Apple updated their software to where you can’t continue using them. So they are both the enemy.

### 5/5 — I love it

*2025-02-13, version 1.44*

### 1/5 — Softlocked at start

*2023-09-03, version 1.42*

So I started my second run clicking a “no peasant challenge” no knowing what it is. I die instantly over and over with no hope of success and no way to remove it without paying money to remove it.

So basically I can’t play the game and don’t have the desire to pay for a game that does give me the ability to restart without paying them.

### 5/5 — A love letter to fans of Dungeon Raid!

*2023-07-24, version 1.42*

It is not just a faithful reproduction of my old all-time favorite game, Dungeon Raid, but it is quite rather a love letter to the game with many expanded features beyond the original!

I was trying to decide between this app and a Chinese knock off. This app lets you play a lite version of the full game for free. It’s charm and mechanics got me hooked. I bought the full version without hesitation.

### 5/5 — Nice and not as small as it seems

Rezension

Match-3 is just the basic core of this game… it does so much more!

First: It is really free!

- no annoying ads

- no continuous “rate us now!”

- no pushy “visit our website and do this or that”

Just buy the full version if you enjoy the game and support its developer, then additional content will come available.

Second: It really combines most of RPG Elements and a simple but cute story round a little troll who needs to defend his cave and people.

Fight the invaders, collect treasures and special items, level up and improve your stats, develop your cave and even use magical items.

Your patrol has an aim that you selected on start.

Between the waves your troll encounters orhers or needs to make decisions… like in the early adventure games.

There are numerous enemy classes with each a lot of differences in stats and abilities… do not underestimate the hobbits!

Third: The game has a lot of little but good features. For example there is a slot machine or “machine of power”… you really should use it before you start your patrol if you don’t want to fail already in the second or third wave.

Forth: Yes…. you can fail in the early waves… so do not expect to play this for hours being undefeated. However you can play it for a couple of minutes.

But the game triggered my ambition… it has to be possible to at least win those two diamonds (marriage portion for the troll’s sister).

Last but not least I really enjoy the soundtrack of the game; really meets RPG ambience.

But if you do not like the sounds … there are a number of useful settings in the game’s control - have a look!

And now: Keep your cave clean!!

### 2/5 — Latest update removes unlocks

*2023-05-15, version 1.41*

This is a fun game that featured adverts that you could pay to remove. 99% of progression and unlocks was available to advert supported users.
In the latest update adverts were removed and most progression was gated behind a paid unlock. This is fair enough for new users but removing access to the unlocks for existing users feels like bait and switch. I'm now asked to pay £5 to access all of the unlocks I had before the update. This doesn't feel fair.

### 1/5 — Kinda fun, but way too hard

*2023-02-02, version 1.41*

You need to replenish your health, but the game cheats and never gives you enough potions or places potions to where they cannot be selected in threes or more. Everything else you can match 3 or more, just the potions you can’t. It’s absolutely ridiculous and probably designed this way. Not only that, you destroy the “peasants” and like 10 of them appear on the screen making for a AI cheating fest where they attack you and there is no way to recover. I think I last less than 25-30 seconds until I’m dead. Such promise and a stolen idea from the developer who created Dungeon Raid, which is FAR superior in every way, at least that game gave you a chance. This game, doesn’t. It’s not fun if you have to keep restarting after every 30 seconds or so. Thankfully this was free and you can buy it if you want. My recommendation, don’t buy it. It’s not worth the hassle or frustration. The developer make this game so far from fun and he caused the AI to cheat that you will throw your iPad clear across the room. Waste of a download, but thankfully not real money. Glad he lets you try it out first. He gets his one star from that.

### 5/5 — Only my third review ever I think?

*2021-09-17, version 1.31*

But have to let everyone know!! This is Dungeon Raid, people!! The all-time best match-3, roguelike, rpg, bare-bones, with a sense of humor, chillest, most strategic, best iOS game of all time and I have spent years trying to find any old phone of mine that is still working and has it installed bc I miss it so! Troll Patrol has everything DR had, plus more metagame stuff like choosing long term “quest” types or permanent stat ups through cave decor. Instead of the DR randomized opening “origin story” there’s now randomized interstitial events that often give you choices that seriously help or hurt you for at least a wave. Devs, thank you. It’s obviously you were fans of DR too, and you’ve given me an all time fave back, but new and improved! You really made it your own, while keeping everything that made DR so great. (The one thing I can say I preferred in the OG were the graphics. DR had this polished, simple look to the tiles that wasn’t isometric or retro or anime or 3D but really it’s own, and you’ve alllllllmost captured it but it feels a little too hand drawn for my personal taste. I like the character descriptions being hand drawn though!) I only had to play this for like, a day, before I bought the No-Ads bc I know I’m going to be playing this for *literally* literally years, just like DR. Also: if you stop updating this game and disappear, me and all the fellow DR-heads will be forced to hunt you down like puny unarmed goblins and give you a strongly worded letter. Thank you.
