## What is Tropicals?

Get to know every tropical species you meet.

410,000+ species · 2,800,000+ encyclopedia sections · 270,000+ images.
Covering tropical plants, ornamental aquatics, and exotic pets. Every entry is cross-checked against authoritative sources and labeled with taxonomy, native range, and CITES protection status.

RECORD WHAT YOU FIND
Snap a photo in the field, greenhouse, or market. AI identifies the species and notes the time and place, building your own archive of tropical species.

SPECIES ENCYCLOPEDIA
Every species gets its own page, hand-edited across seven sections: morphology, habitat, breeding, pests and diseases, market data, and more. Organized by plants, aquatics, and exotic pets.

A SERIOUS COMMUNITY
Built for serious keepers and professionals. Follow others; post care notes, experiences, and questions; and join the conversation. Species topics group automatically, so you find your people fast.

## Version history (last 3 releases)

### 1.2.0 — 2026-08-27

Observations, rebuilt
• Opens straight to the camera — tap the button, take the shot, that's a record
• Batch import: pick up to 30 photos at once and save them as separate records, filling in the date and place just once
• The date comes from the photo automatically, and so does the place where we can — from the photo's own information or from where you are right now. Only the place name is saved, never coordinates
• Species are identified automatically after you shoot, and you can correct or skip it
• Records are grouped by day, so an afternoon reads as one wall of photos

Richer species pages
• Added taxonomic standing, naming authority, protection status, traits, and reference price ranges
• Every field names its source, so you can check it yourself

Faster
• Lists, detail pages, and images are now cached and preloaded — cold starts and scrolling are noticeably quicker

Also
• The home screen is one browsing flow now, with collections as quick entries
• Your profile shows species / records / places, and settings moved to the top right
• Password recovery, and you can delete your own comments

### 1.1 — 2026-06-06

Observations now capture an observation date (auto-filled from your photo) and a wild/cultivated tag, with the species' scientific name. Plus email sign-up and a smoother sign-in experience.

### 1.0 — 2026-06-04
