## What is True Cost?

True Cost shows what things really cost you on a trip, using the exchange rate you actually got for your cash, not the rate on the news.

When you exchange money, add what you purchased and what you received, straight from your receipt with fees included. From then on, any price you see converts at that rate.

• Your real rate. Saved from your exchange receipt, not a bank estimate.
• Type a price. A big keypad converts as you type, in either direction.
• Scan prices. Photograph a price list, shelf tag or receipt, and every price is converted right on the photo.
• Works offline. Converting and scanning run on your phone. No account and no ads.
• Any currency. Search by code or name, with your home currency at the top.

Photos are read on your device and never leave it.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.0.4 — 2026-10-21

• New App Store screenshots and header that show what True Cost does.
• Your saved rates and the app itself are unchanged.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-10-13

• Share a scanned photo with the converted prices on it.
• Scan reads more price lists: prices printed side by side without a currency sign, and vending machines photographed with glare.

### 1.0.2 — 2026-10-07

Scan now reads Japanese and Chinese price tags written top to bottom, ignores bottle-size labels on vending machines, and skips prices it isn't sure it read correctly.

### 1.0.1 — 2026-09-28

• Scanned prices are easier to read. Labels match the size of the printed price, no longer overlap, and grow as you zoom in.
• Save two rates for the same currency, so one stash of cash can be compared against more than one home currency.
• Hold a rate card to reorder it, swipe left to delete.
• A suggested rate as you type, from today's mid-market rate less a typical fee.
• The two amounts are now Purchased and Received.
• Better price reading, including prices run together and phone numbers no longer mistaken for prices.

### 1.0.0 — 2026-09-20
