## What is True Tube Status?

Machine-powered statuses for the London Tube based on live wait times and train speeds.

Have you ever gone onto the Tube when it was saying 'Good Service' but it turned out to be bad? Or conversely, when it was saying 'Severe Delays' but it turned out to be ok? This happens because TfL's official statuses are declared manually by TfL staff based on guidelines. This makes the official statuses often slow and inaccurate. We can speculate on the reasons why (e.g. honest misdeclaration, bad tech, attempts to manipulate network load, politics, etc.), but the point is that it creates distrust, uncertainty and avoidable bad experiences.

True Tube Status is designed to solve this problem.

The app shows you objective, machine-powered Tube statuses based on live wait times and train speeds across the London Underground. You can also see performance metrics, charts and maps. The data that powers the app is derived from raw arrival board data supplied by TfL.

Use the app to:

– Dodge delays
– Save time
– Plan better
– Reroute optimally when required
– Avoid overcrowding
– Get peace of mind

STATUSES

The app displays the official TfL statuses but with confirmations or corrections based on the data. Confirmations are marked with a tick and corrections are shown in green or red (depending on if they are positive or negative).

METRICS

Official status descriptions (‘Good Service’, ‘Minor Delays’, ‘Severe Delays’) aren’t very precise and can mean a lot of different things. With the app’s metrics you can get an exact understanding of how much longer journeys are taking. This enables you to see how good a ‘Good Service’ is and how severe a ‘Severe Delay’ is etc.

SPARKLINE CHARTS

You can see the recent trend in performance with intuitive, color-coded sparklines (mini charts without axes). They’re useful for timing your journeys. You can tap and drag them to browse through recent data.

DIRECTION INDICATORS

Color-coded indicators show how lines are performing in each direction. You can tap them to filter all the data by direction (e.g. Central line, eastbound only). Statuses, metrics, sparkline charts and maps are all filterable by direction. (Note: This feature is part of the Pro subscription.)

PERFORMANCE MAPS

You can see how your part of a Tube line is performing with live performance maps. Color-coded bars indicate how good or bad performance is on various parts of the line. When you tap and drag a sparkline, the performance map changes to the dragged time. (Note: This feature is part of the Pro subscription.)

PRO SUBSCRIPTION

Direction indicators, direction filters, advanced metrics and performance maps are part of the Pro subscription. A Pro subscription is required for continuous access to all features for all lines. The Pro subscription offers a 7-day free trial and then renews annually. To unsubscribe, turn off auto-renew in settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current subscription period.

### 1/5 — Free Version has nothing to offer. Paid is too Costly.

*2026-07-05*

The free version itself contains nothing. Literally nothing compared to what exists out there! So only install if you want to pay monthly / yearly. The subscriptions itself are super costly with no option for lifetime licenses.

### 1/5 — Way too expensive

*2026-01-06*

It could be useful but the price is comedic for an app like this - might come back to it if the dev comes back to planet earth.

**Developer response:** Hey mate, sorry you feel that way -- just so you know there are family and teams options now available in case you want a parent or your company to buy Pro for you.

### 2/5 — Way Too Expensive And IT WANTS APPLE ACCOUNT

*2025-12-14*

It Is So So So Bad

**Developer response:** Hey there, you can use it without signing in with apple (you'll miss the live activity feature though) -- also FYI there are family and teams options available in case you want a parent or your company to buy Pro for you.

### 3/5 — No info on Overground or DLR

*2025-11-21*

Only shows info for the main underground lines, app wouldve been more useful than TFL GO if it had those lines, or even info on national rail services. Other than that its been reliable with info!

### 2/5 — Seriously expensive

*2025-07-17*

I greatly appreciate this website so wanted to try the app, but I am hesitant to even try the ‘free trial’ in case I forget to cancel and get charged THREE HUNDRED pounds!

I don’t doubt this is a really useful app, but that is not a justifiable cost for an app like this. This is a neat tool but no healthcare, entertainment, educational, music apps or anything similar cost anything like this.

**Developer response:** Hey Peter, thanks for your kind words. Sorry you didn't try the app fully. You'll be welcome back any time of course!

### 4/5 — Great app but pro is pricey

*2025-07-08*

This has always been my go to app to check for any delays, I love the accurate updates and features. I would buy the pro if it wasn’t so expensive. £7 per week is absurd, that’s more expensive than most monthly mobile contracts, music, TV or software subscriptions. Can’t justify it. £7 a month would be worth considering.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the kind review JustJon97, I love that you love those features!

Sorry you feel that way about Pro. All I can say is I'm putting out a fantastic product -- it lets you never have to unknowingly go on a bad Tube ever again! It checkmates the Tube problem for you. It's a very niche London benefit (superior Tube transit experiences) so I'm not sure those comparisons apply too well. Wouldn't you be happier if you could sidestep all those crowded/slow/jammed Tube experiences? Wouldn't the daily commute be that much more enjoyable and sustainable? Wouldn't that affect your work/life positively? Wouldn't it all thoroughly pay off? Sure it would!

### 1/5 — Expensive, otherwise limited

*2025-02-18*

The free version doesn’t have enough features to be useful at all. - so I doubt I’ll be back until there are some useful features at this tier.

However, the app does have some potential, it’s held back by many features that feel half-baked like the routes option. I can’t select my start and end stations without adding multiple lines, and it makes it feel unintuitive and difficult to use.

The lines option also displays very little usable information as most is hidden behind a very expensive paywall. I’ve found that for my use, these limitations and “beta” features make the app confusing and almost pointless to use, especially for its very high cost.

**Developer response:** "Expensive but TRULY LIFE CHANGING AND TOTALLY WORTH IT" I think you meant in the title 😉

All jokes aside thanks for giving it a try. Hope you come back to use the free features if you find yourself in a bind sometime.

### 5/5 — Great App

*2025-01-02*

I really do like the live views and customisation 5 stars all around

**Developer response:** Thanks for your review, glad you like it!

### 1/5 — Unusable

*2024-11-30*

I’m sure this app is quite useful, but the fact my home station, on the Northern Line, is missing makes the app unusable.

**Developer response:** Hi, sorry you seem to have hit one of the 2-3 stations that is currently excluded from the routes features (that's the reason for the 'beta' label on the routes tab). You can find very good similar info by zooming the northern line map on the lines screens instead. (I.e. it still should very usable for you)

### 1/5 — No additional functionality to the web page

*2024-07-29*

All features which are not available on the web are locked behind a paywall, (Up to £43.99 per 3 months, according to the App Store).
See no reason for to download if you aren’t willing to pay for it.

**Developer response:** See 3.3.3 or later.
