### 4/5 — Easy to use

*2026-08-23, version 3.0.0*

It’s easy to use but, it definitely makes mistakes. The “ braking” detection is too sensitive.
I’ve tested it- going 25 to stop. Unless you ride the brakes for about 45 seconds, you’ll get a “hard braking“ notification.
The “phone distraction” needs a bit more attention also. Often, if I’m the driver, using Google Maps, my daughter will tap my phone if there’s an alternate route pop-up.

### 3/5 — Precision

*2026-08-18, version 3.0.0*

The incorrect think is that it was recording a trip I took Uber with another driver driving me through

### 5/5 — Great

*2026-07-07, version 3.0.0*

Watches everything I do and still not a problem!

### 2/5 — Major flaw and poor design allows it

*2026-07-05, version 3.0.0*

App needs your location to be set to “Always” to work but it constantly defaults to other settings. I am going to lose my discount because of this.

### 4/5 — Improves my driving

*2026-07-04, version 3.0.0*

It is easy to use but it calls firm breaking “severe breaking“ and gives demerits for it. To me, severe braking is close to squealing tires.
It said that I drove well enough (95%) to get a 31% discount but that did not get me anything. It’s as if TrueLane has no effect on premiums. They don’t show a discount from standard premiums.

### 5/5 — Ez 2 use

*2026-06-25, version 3.0.0*

I enjoy using it. I watch my score and try to improve it. It also saves you money.

### 5/5 — Truelane app

*2026-06-24, version 3.0.0*

I believe this is making me a better conscientious driver.

I’m checking myself on my driving habits and being more alert

### 5/5 — Wonderful App

*2026-06-16, version 3.0.0*

We are enjoying the app, thanks for providing this information and reminder system. Sometimes we need to adjust who is the person driving, are we overlooking a particular procedure? Thanks. ME

### 5/5 — Love the true lane app by Hartford insurance

If you look at the data on your app, it can identify areas to improve on your driving skills so that you can realize savings! I find it to be very accurate!

### 5/5 — Forget your app is there and drive

*2026-06-06, version 3.0.0*

I had reservations about the app attached to my driving habits. Once I started driving with it I realized my concerns were foolish. I just went on with my normal driving events and the app just showed who I am behind the wheel and I hope to benefit on my insurance renewal.

### 5/5 — Greatly

### 5/5 — Great app

LOL. WHATA WASTE THAT COMPANY WAS. I LOVE HARTFORD!

### 5/5 — Messages that I don’t drive

*2026-06-05, version 3.0.0*

We are older than most, so I often get messages that I am not driving. We sold our second vehicle since we really didn’t need it. I am semi handicapped so my wife usually drives us everywhere but on occasion I drive. I resigned with Trulane because I was going to get another car and my rate went up. The CS person told me to use trulane as a passenger to retain my potential discount. We did get another car last week and I drove it about 4 miles. I understand that maybe this short trip was caught but not included on my record as a driver. I stop will be a passenger on most trips. I love the fact that trulane offers the ability to earn a discount but until recently we had 1 car and 2 drivers but trulane can’t recognize that there can only be one driver at a time. They will likely shut down my trulane because I don’t drive much. This is unfair and I can do nothing about it. Just to be sure I added trulane back to my phone more than two weeks ago and the message I sent said no trips have been recorded for me. Help.

### 2/5 — Not Accurate GPS & Speed

*2026-06-02, version 3.0.0*

My score went down three points simply because the app registered a lower speed limit then the speed limit on the highway I was driving. My theory is that since I was driving at the speed limit and I was on the right lane the whole time for over 70 miles., The app kept reporting that I was speeding because my proximity to the town I was passing by was being recorded as if I was actually in those towns. I contacted The Hartford and they say they can’t do anything about it. On the report or my trip summary, it clearly shows that I was always on the speedway throughout my trip. However, the app located the speed of the nearing towns, and it kept reporting that I was speeding. That really sucks because there is inaccuracies and therefore because of these inaccuracies, The Hartford will assume that I am not a safe driver. Ugh!

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Beware and be careful

*2026-07-29, version 3.0.0*

While the premise behind this application- safer driving habits, should be applauded; the app is so full of problems it almost does the opposite. If your cellphone is put in the center console or armrest to be away and gets bounced around due to a bumpy road it will ding you with a distraction “penalty”. If you drive in an urban environment where other drivers may cut lanes or stop short in front of you or turn with no signal and you have to brake to avoid them, you get dinged for hard braking. If you are on a section of highway where the speed drops from 65 to 55 and then goes back to 65 and you follow the limit but are then risking getting rear ended by a tractor trailer or other drivers who refuse to slow down you get dinged. If you move to the right lane to avoid this, and then brake for traffic entering without slowing down or merging properly, you get dinged for braking. Then comes the real fun. Take an extended vacation or heaven forbid have a medical issue where you can’t drive for 30 days and it un-registers you and wipes out any earned discounts. TruLane’s response is basically too bad, you accepted our terms and conditions.

### 1/5 — Phone usage

*2026-07-06, version 3.0.0*

This app is truthful for the most part on my driving except for the phone usage, several times now I have had my phone in the passengers seat while driving and it dings me for touching it when it was in a completely different area of the car than me and I didn’t touch it once! It’s very frustrating to me and I wish there was a way to fix it.

### 1/5 — Battery Killer

*2026-05-22, version 3.0.0*

The app works well and the discounts are nice but the battery drain is excessive.

### 1/5 — Drains Phone Battery

*2026-05-20, version 3.0.0*

This app drains my phone battery quickly and dings me for non-existent hard braking. Needs work…

### 1/5 — This app is a fly broken.

*2026-04-24, version 3.0.0*

At first, I thought this was going to be a good thing because it suggests that you can save a percentage on your policy renewal and all was fine in the world until I started seeing that I was getting a ding for heartbreaking and speeding when the advertise speed limit was 70 somehow they determined that it was 60. They told me that it took seven seconds to slow down 31 mph, think about it if it takes me seven seconds to slow down 31 so that can’t be sudden, can it? According to them it is! And, there’s no way to reach them so you can be rolling along at a record of something in the hundreds and this app to inevitably say that you did something you absolutely did not do. There’s no way to contact anyone about it so you’re stuck. Send this feedback to them that they supposedly read, but everything will always remain the same. I’m getting rid of this and that will be that because I have not. Had a ticket or an accident in over 30 years but let this app tell it I’m a horrible driver.

### 1/5 — Used to be good

*2026-04-13, version 3.0.0*

This used to be good but there is something wrong with the Hard Braking signal. It’s awful and I know I’m not hard braking. They do it to lower your score. Someone needs to look into it!! PLEASE FIX IT.

### 1/5 — Lousy, and deliberately so…

*2026-03-25*

I was excited to join the Hartford auto insurance as a member AARP. The rate seemed quite competitive, however they are significantly higher if one refuses to use Truelane, which is a poorly programmed application. My complaint, which is the most common one, is the metrics for breaking. Severe breaking or sudden breaking starts at 0.4 to 0.5 g. Mine was given at 0.28. This can lead to bad driving habits rather than enforcing good ones, and make Truelane utterly useless when driving in an urban environment. Encouraging people to slow down too much causes accidents and road rage and is considered unsafe. Not being able to toggle off the program when you are a passenger is also a problem. Furthermore, requiring this program if you do not have a smart phone and then charging a higher rate if you don’t is discriminatory. Refusing to use the program raises my rates significantly. My time is valuable and not mentioning that this program is required when signing up for the Hartford was also annoying.

### 1/5 — Don't do it. They scam you out of your savings

*2026-03-12, version 2.0.0*

This application monitors all driving activity. However, it incorrectly indicates that I am braking suddenly even when I am not. During the initial several weeks, my savings increased to 28%. Subsequently, the app reported multiple speeding and braking events, which coincided with a steady decline in my savings to 14%. When I contacted customer support via email, I received a standard response stating that a single event would not affect my savings. I requested a review of my driving record, but I did not receive a response.

### 1/5 — A scam!

*2026-02-21, version 2.0.0*

This app, promoted by the AARP auto insurance through The Hartford is a scam. The promise is drive safe and get rewarded with lower premiums. Sounds great but in practice it doesn’t work that way unless you only drive in low density, slow traffic environments.
First you must record driving (not be a passenger) within any 30 day period. If you are medically unable to drive due to an injury, vacation, etc, there is no way to denote this and you can have 5 months of great travel, it doesn’t not matter. Goodbye discount until the next renewal and you loose most of the discount you earned.
Second, if you drive safely buy a driver pulls out in front of you or stops suddenly in front of you, you get dinged for hard braking. Drive in any major metropolitan area or on a major highway and it will happen on a regular basis.
Third, drive on a road that is pot holes and the app thinks you are either abruptly braking or not paying attention as you move slightly left or right to avoid the pot holes. Again, dings in your record and loss of discounts.
All in all, not worth the space it take in your phone and talking to the Hartford about this is useless. All you get is, “sorry, it’s in our terms and conditions” and it’s too bad you are taking a long vacation or had surgery. Zero stars!!!

### 1/5 — Designed to cost you more!

*2026-02-21, version 2.0.0*

Their rating system is a disgrace. For example if you have to stop to turn left and have to wait for on coming traffic to stop, you lose points for stopping. If you are behind a school bus and have to stop frequently forget it your score will be in the teens. Speeding when they are never accurate on the current speed limits. It’s a joke and because my wife’s driving record isn’t the best my perfect driving record (completely clean) has has to pay more for this insane illegal system.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — I like that it keeps a trip log

*2026-08-19, version 3.0.0*

For years I have used several different. Trip log apps for to track business, personal and medical mileage for tax proposes only to have to go back and verify each trip. But my wife has chronic liver failure nearly all of our travel is for medical purposes so this app has made it easy to track. And the estimate premium saving is an added perk along with the ability to track how I drive that sometime we are not cognizant of like looking down at phone or distracted driving thank so much
