### 3/5 — Not accurate

*2022-12-20, version 2.1.6*

I recently traveled twice from Nevada to Colorado and there are new speed limit posts in Utah. I tested the app and used my cruise control with posted speed limits and TrueLane had numerous speeding events. Now even my vehicle gps screen didn’t pick up the new posted limits. With that said , I had part of my trip at 181 miles show 93 events and a day later show 166 events. Now you can only imagine the amount of events the app got me for on the trips. What the heck!. I had my cell phone ring with an important call and pulled over and stopped then answered it. The app showed high risk event distraction for this, again what the heck! Around town I haven’t had any real issues, only out on the highway with updated speed limits posted. Time to update the app with new posted speed limits in the states.

### 3/5 — Ok but with some glaring flaws…

*2022-11-10, version 2.1.6*

I have a job, in which I am often a passenger in a vehicle. Would be nice to have the ability to enter some sort of “work mode,” instead of having to refuse multiple irrelevant entries.

A bigger problem is the inability to pull over, stop and make a perfectly safe short phone call without getting dinged for distracted driving.

For example, during an hour long commute:

-Drive about half the route
-Pull into parking area, fully stopped while making a phone call for a few minutes
-Hanging up, put phone away and safely drive the remainder of the route

The app lumps all the above into one drive and flags a major distraction where there wasn’t one. Pretty frustrating and unnecessary I think.

### 2/5 — Distracted driving

*2022-10-05, version 2.1.6*

I am a very careful driver and I use TrueLane for an insurance discount. If I receive a call while I am driving but do not answer, I still receive a “demerit” for distracted driving. If I go to the drive up ATM or fast food window, I pull out my phone wallet to get my ATM card out and I receive a demerit for distracted driving; even though the car is not moving and I am not on the phone.

### 2/5 — Good drivers beware

*2022-08-09, version 2.1.4*

I’m retired. I don’t drive a lot. My average trip is 7-miles there and back - typically to drive throughs and supermarkets in my immediate area. I am sick of being dinged for distraction when I’m sitting in a car park waiting for curb side delivery to my car. Yesterday, for example, arrive at ihop - PARK - and call the number (on hand free device using voice command!) to let them know I’m there. Get home - check true land - two distraction dings - with seconds of each other - in a car park!!!!! And this isn’t the first time. At drive through I pay with the app. Pull forward, STOP, disconnect the phone, open the app, pay, reconnect phone, have drink delivered, drive. Distraction!

### 2/5 — Unfair ratings

*2022-06-23, version 2.0.0*

First I work nights, so getting events for late driving is ridiculous. I get off work anywhere from 11 PM to 1 AM. I should be able to put my work hours in to get those removed. And all but 1 of my braking events were if I didn’t brake, I would have hit either an animal or a car that went through their stop in front of me. Are we suppose to hit them? We have a lot of deer where we live. And at night especially they love to jump in front of you. And 1 person literally went through their stop sign right in front of me. All marked as “events”.

### 2/5 — Unrelieable Trulane

*2022-06-18, version 2.0.0*

The Hartford was able to give me a significant price on my auto and home insurance. I did save $600 vs my previous insurance company. The Hartford indicated that if I signed up for Trulane I could save up to an additional 25% after the 180 days of usage. The app was for my wife and myself. After 10 days My daily activity was accurate showing I was at a 23% discount , however with my wife, on one specific day there was a big error. It showed that on a specific day she was speeding at 114 miles per hour. THIS WAS TOTALLY INACCURATE. On that day I was in the car and her max speed was 70 mph. After numerous calls (5 times) to both the Hartford and Trulane tech support, there was nothing they could do to correct the error. My wife’s discount shows A 7% discount with this speeding error. The customer service at Trulane is AWFUL. I can’t wait for the 180 days pass and hopefully I can get a decent discount. It’s a shame that the program/app could be so unrelieable.

### 1/5 — Very Undependable

*2022-02-14, version 2.0.0*

I’ve been reading other reviews indicating erroneous locations and events. I’ve also been provided false information on the app.

The most glaring issue was where I left a restaurant on a surface street. Truelane showed me starting on a freeway off ramp doing 74 mph, along with two hard brake events. I was not on the freeway, but on a surface street which intersected with the off ramp. But it showed me with 3 events anyway.

I looked at the reviews beginning with the most recent. I noticed a rather startling statistic. Of the 100 recent reviews, 44 of the reviews received a 1-star rating. With this type of score, the folks at the Hartford need to take a serious look at the performance of the Truelane app.

This app can be a tremendous tool to encourage safe driving. At the present time it appears to be providing a lot of dissatisfaction.

### 1/5 — Horrible.

*2022-01-17, version 2.0.0*

This app is horrible. We switched to The Hartford to get discounts over other auto insurance companies, hoping we’d get even more with using the app. Well, the app probably only works about 50% of the time. I drive for days without being able enter my trips. And then, with 100% distraction free driving (from the 50% or so trips I’m allowed to enter) my discount is estimated at 4%. What the heck? Maybe it’s because I can’t enter 50% of my travel!?!? What a joke. Get your stuff together The Hartford. VERY disappointing. And when I call to ask about what’s going on?…..I’m connected to ESL personnel who can’t really get what I’m complaining about. Can’t wait to switch away from The Hartford.

### 1/5 — This app is a joke

*2022-01-01, version 2.0.0*

Just changed my wife and mine’s insurance from progressive to Hartford for the AARP discount. Just finished with 6 months of progressive’ driving app snapshot where my wife and I got an A. Less than a month with this app and we are already down to a 19% discount out of 25% possible. My wife is 69 and one day they app said she was driving 113 miles an hour and then broke from 113 to 92 in 2 seconds. Yesterday we took a short trip that put us on the interstate for about three miles there and three miles back. It dinged us for going 94 then braking 77-68 in one second, 55-29 in one second plus other infractions on the way. On the way back it dinged us for going 111 for six seconds, 89 for 5 seconds, braking 39 to 18 in one second, plus other infractions. We never went over 75 on the interstate. No one at Hartford has an answer when you call because their app is operated by individuals in Europe. When I got a hold of the app individuals I was told the app does that sometimes. He sort of tried to give an explanation which I did not understand. Stay away from Hartford and this app if you can. Looking into changing insurance companies next week.

### 1/5 — Will not track trips for days

*2021-11-22, version 2.0.0*

At first, the app was somewhat overly sensitive in tracking activity (my vehicle has regenerative breaking and it was recording it sometimes as hard breaking). Now, it will not record activity at all or very seldom (yes, I have logged out and back in, as well as, delete and reload the app. I’m up to date on my iOS). So far, it has missed about a week of activity. At this rate, it’ll take a year to reach the 180 day requirement!

### 1/5 — Not accurate most of the time!

*2021-11-02, version 2.0.0*

I had used the app for about three months and find an area we travel a few times each month that give crazy numbers for speed and breaking. This is a rural area with a 55 and 60 mph speed limit two lane highway. That said the readings came up with speeds in the 80 and 90 mph range, it also showed many braking violations where there are very few stoplights.
I purchased a new phone and after two months can not get the app to allow me to sign on. After multiple calls to tech service and transfers to customer service I can’t sign on.
Not sure what if any discount I will receive.

### 1/5 — Needs a pause button!!!

*2021-09-25, version 2.0.0*

I am so frustrated that I get a distraction event when I have pulled off to STOP on the side of the road to check maps, or to answer an important text etc. I have also received distraction events when I am STOPPED at the drive through of a fast food restaurant or STOPPED for 10 minutes waiting at a train crossing. The app should be smart enough to recognize that the car is not moving and that people should have the freedom to make an intelligent choice to check their phone!!!

### 2/5 — Incorrect True Lane Data

*2021-07-23, version 1.3.4*

I used the app and was very satisfied for a few weeks. I then drove on a toll road with a 75 mile speed limit posted. When I got me report it stated I had been speeding 30 times in 30 miles. This was not correct. My correct speed was listed however even though I was not speeding True Lane registered 30 speeding violations. The only explanation seems to be that they had put in the incorrect speed limit on one way of the toll road. On the other direction all was fine. I drove the road twice more and got the same results. I called everyone at Hartford’s a d True lLane. NO-ONE COULD CORRECT THE ERROR IN THE DATA AND NO ONE WOULD HELP. IT IS THE WORST. CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. IT IS BASICALLY A SCAM . IF TOU LIKE YOUR RATES STAY WHERE YOU ARE. YOU ARENT SAVING ANY MONEY. YOU ARE JUST USING A FAKE SYSTEM THAT WILL MAKE YOU FAIL BY Good luck. 👍

### 1/5 — Horrible app

*2021-07-14, version 1.3.4*

This could be great, but it's not. It would be so easy for there to be a device in your vehicles that would trigger this app to run when you're driving one of your vehicles. Instead, it runs all the time, tracking you all the time. Wasting your data all the time. Ride around with someone at work all day? Don't forget to go mark all those trips. Take an Uber? Ride a bus? Hop in your friend's car to go to the store with them? Go fix all the trips! We rarely drive our vehicles, so this should have been great for us, but it just wastes our data and our time. When shopping for insurance a couple of days ago, one insurer actually pulled up our info and said that the mileage on our primary vehicle is 7000 miles per year and 1000 miles per year on our second vehicle. That is actually more useful information than this app provides. Anyway, we are shopping for insurance again, and it's solely due to this app being required to get a somewhat decent rate. I'm really surprised that The Hartford uses this app with so many horrible reviews, but it is what it is.

### 1/5 — App needs a total overhaul

*2021-07-01, version 1.3.4*

I installed this app because I opted for auto insurance from Hartford, however, with that caveat known, I had hoped that this application would serve to provide information to me regarding my driving habits that would allow me to become a safer driver. It does not provide this in any form, it captures rudimentary movement details derived solely from phone sensors. Frankly compared to the intelligence offered by the automobile OBD interface, this kind of capture reflects prehistoric levels of knowledge. Secondly, with the information that is captured, there is zero AI offered relative to the driver. For example, “we see you drive on route X at the same time several days a week, this road has a high incident of accidents and if you leave 30 minutes sooner, your likelihood of being in an accident is lower 80 percent.” Or it could offer a different route. I didn’t even mention the problems with keeping the app running after upgrades and IOS optimizations that occur on a regular basis. Frankly one star is too many.

### 2/5 — Doesn’t work and no tech support

*2021-07-01, version 1.3.4*

I am not seeing the functionality shown on screens in the App Store. Calling Tech Support is a complete failure. First call, was laughable. The support rep had no access to the app - had never used it himself! He was flipping through a document looking at screenshots that were clearly outdated. Second call I was unable to get to any tech support. The system kept looping back to initial menu after selecting option for Tech Support.
This app is a complete waste of time.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — I wish there was a zero star rating

*2022-12-05, version 2.1.6*

This app is a huge joke. It records inaccurate driving speeds that are not even possible on winding roads. I know that neither I nor my husband ever drive 68 miles per hour on the back road to the grocery store. But it says we did. It also charges an event when you have a speed change from 19 mph to 9 mph. What is not safe about that. So I watch as our discount drains away based on stupid or inaccurate data. It also said I was going 79 on that same backroad to the grocery store. Ridiculous!! Why bother with this just take away the discounts and do something real. This is stupid and frustrating.

### 1/5 — Pathetic Technology for IPhone

*2022-10-25, version 2.1.6*

I have been trying to download and activate this app on my iPhone XR for 5 weeks in advance of my policy going active. One reason that I was sold on this policy was the idea that my husband and I could get an additional credit against the premium after our driving was observed by this app over a period of six months. How can that ever happen if you cannot get to the page to create a login and set up the the app to activate with the policy effective date?? I called on 6 occasions, explaining the issue, and jumping thru all the hoops that they had me ‘try’ to make it work…only to have them finally tell me that they were aware of the issue and will have it fixed “next week.” The Tech support people seem to be clueless as to how to correct that glitch.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work consistently

*2022-10-11, version 2.1.6*

Many of my trips show as one way. I never return home? I drove over 450 miles in one day. The trips show I hopscotched through a few states? I’ve called TrueLane numerous times. Same response, delete app, clear cache and download app. I’ve talked to Hartford numerous times. No resolution. My phone security tells me how often TrueLane is active. The app shows about 30% of my trips. I think it’s a scam. Hartford already tried once to charge me for NOT using the app

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-08-16, version 2.1.4*

I installed the app the day my auto insurance became effective, July 21st. The email said I had to record a trip within 27 days to get my discount. Now with the discount I will save good money with the Hartford. I’m now at 24 days and I’ve spoken to technical support four times and it still doesn’t work. And that’s when I can get someone to answer. I’m sick of calling and sitting on hold.
Now they’ve decided there’s a bug where it won’t work with an iPhone. I was told last week to drive for two days and it would be fixed. Now they’re telling me to drive for a week and it will be fixed.
I’m ready to find another insurance company.

### 1/5 — Horrible

*2022-08-15, version 2.1.4*

I never use the phone or text while driving. However when I pull over, put the car in park, and turn off the ignition then when I make a call the app dings me for making a call while driving. Today we got an email from Hartford Truelane telling us that we would not get our discount if we didn’t start using the app again. The problem is the app quit working; I deleted and reinstalled; adequate working again.

### 1/5 — Unhappy Customer

*2022-08-07, version 2.1.4*

This software is beta at best. I am sick of troubleshooting this app. Customer service is useless. Then I get emails that threaten my discount will be lost if there is no activity. I use it but the app does not work. So rather than threaten me the Hartford should demand that this app be fixed by the morons at TrueLane. It is obvious that the developers are the inmates running the asylum. I am tired of being a crash test dummy. Common theme is that the discount changes radically from day to day….. even on days you do not drive. How does that happen? Next step is to file a complaint with my state’s Banking and Insurance. I have filed an online Hartford complaint……which crashed. The complaint form software must have been written by the TrueLane clowns. Supposedly this discount is only available in certain states. Maybe I should move?

### 1/5 — Pain in the neck

*2022-07-21, version 2.1.4*

I have had to delete and reinstall this app several times because it just stops working. I rarely drive more than once a week and it has never seen my leaving home trip, hardly ever catches my return trips. Also the tech support is not very nice, always trying to say I am doing something wrong with the app but I am following their instructions every time and it just keeps failing. All this hassle for a measly 5% discount?

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work

*2022-06-12, version 2.0.0*

Haven’t been able to login for several days. I called the number the app told me to and was told that there is a system issue. When I asked the customer service person when it would be fixed, he told me it will get fixed when it gets fixed and I need to wait. Based on the service that I receive so far from Hartford since signing up a month ago I am now very concerned that if I ever filed a claim I will get poor service.

### 1/5 — Very inaccurate

*2022-04-01, version 2.0.0*

This app is so inaccurate. I have been dinged for speeding when I was not speeding, braking and distraction. I never use my phone when driving and when I’m not driving I forget to get on app and say I was not driving so they get me for driving distracted. I have a busy life I don’t have time to constantly get on app and tell it I’m not driving. My husband and I were very frustrated with the app. And customer service is not very helpful at all. They never told me when I signed up for this I had only 48 hours for frustrated unhappy them to make corrections and to get on app to say your not driving. I feel they need to improve this app.

### 1/5 — Frustrated

*2022-03-15, version 2.0.0*

I have no idea how this app is supposed to help me drive better when the only screen I see is the one that asks if I’m the driver. I got 22 events one weekend as the passenger in my friend’s truck. There are no explanations on what those events are. I will tell you that I live in the mountains and it takes a bit of gas to go up a mountain and frequent braking on the way down so if those are “events” I wouldn’t know. I’m fascinated that my discount has risen and fallen faster than the temperatures on the Great Plains. Now, I’ve had this app for almost 4 months and I’m not sure I’m going to make it to 6.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Tracking my driving for discounts on insurance

*2023-01-30, version 2.1.6*

True lane helps you be a safer and better driver by tracking your driving on a daily basis. Also you get discounts on your auto insurance which is a dual plus for savings and a better driver all in one.

### 5/5 — Distractions

*2021-08-11, version 2.0.0*

I do believe the site is counting distractions when car is running and I am parked ie picking up groceries or meds I also think it is counting while using map guidance and when calls go through radio. I do not think this should be counted. If this not not true please explains to me what
It is counting. Going around tire pieces on road? Etc?

### 5/5 — Increased Awareness is a Good Thing

*2020-11-18, version 1.3.0*

The app works great with minimal battery drain when running in the background. It increases your awareness (and possibly alertness) just knowing you’re self-monitoring. I like it — we’ll see how the “immediate supervisor/spouse” feels about it. She can write her own review.

### 5/5 — Great app

*2020-09-27, version 1.3.0*

I like the app. Idea. The only downfall I have is it runs my phone battery down quickly. I am a mindful driver and have all 100%s. When I set it on while using the app it doesn’t record where I drove to. Not sure I will keep it. Great idea for people who are always in a hurry and drive excessive miles.

### 5/5 — Cop in your car

*2020-09-12, version 1.3.0*

This app is like a cop in my car riding along.
You are more attentive to speed and the speed limits. I don’t know yet how accurate the app will report your results, I had an event stopping at home. I didn’t stop suddenly or any thing else. So that could be something you can’t do anything about correcting on your driving behavior. I don’t mind using the App to save on my auto insurance, I hope it does work out well, I think it will for me. I kind of enjoy using the app.

### 5/5 — Helps me pay attention to driving habits

*2020-07-26, version 1.3.0*

Sometimes, after years on the road, we develop habits, either known or unknown. This app has helped me redevelop and correct some of those habits. It is making me a safer driver in the road!

### 5/5 — Evangelist Angela Titus

*2020-05-31, version 1.3.0*

I love this app because it helps me to be conscious and aware of my own driving patterns. It helps me to manage the speed limits and control of the car when others are out of control around me. It teaches me patience and a greater level of respect on the street for others. Their lives are just as important as mine.

### 4/5 — Better than others, but BEWARE

*2022-10-20, version 2.1.6*

The app will penalize you for going 75 mph in a 75 mph posted speed zone. You’re also penalized for driving between midnight and 6 am. The app will also consider you a driver if you’re on a bicycle.
You have only 24 hours to mark your trips as driven by you or as a passenger.
Finding a contact number to call them is impossible.

### 4/5 — True lane

*2021-11-14, version 2.0.0*

For the fourth time, the app stopped finding my location. I have been told to delete the app and reinstall it. That has worked three times but now the program will not let me delete it so, I’m effect, the program is frozen.

### 4/5 — Events

*2020-09-06, version 1.3.0*

The only events that know is braking hard ( in miami you know that is needed because people do not respect distancing like i do and cut in front) and the other is acceleration. What are other events of bad driving.i disagree with hard braking. I believe exist but you should allow certain flexibility
