In general, this is a great tool to use for exam prep, but needs optimization to correct these bugs. UWorld mobile has a feature where pressing and holding and dragging lets you highlight on mobile, wish TrueLearn could implement that. ### 3/5 — Err how do you highlight *2024-12-08, version 3.1.6* Above ### 4/5 — Almost perfect *2024-11-21, version 3.1.6* If it had a highlight option it would be 5 stars easily ### 2/5 — Missing crucial features that competitors offer *2024-11-13, version 3.1.6* I’ve only been using TrueLearn for a little while since I recently started anesthesia residency, and while the TrueLearn questions and explanations for the Anesthesiology ITE/Boards seem good, the app leaves a lot to be desired, including a couple of critical features. 1) The option to download your quizzes so you can study on the go without an internet connection. AMBOSS has offered this feature in their QBank app for several years and it is extremely useful. Whether you’re in the airport, on a flight, on a vacation, on a long car ride, in a dead-zone within your hospital, etc. AMBOSS lets you download quizzes so you can use some of your precious spare moments to study, but the TrueLearn app is completely inoperable as soon as you lose your internet connection. The TrueLearn app seems like it doesn’t even cache the question(s) you were Currently studying so you can at least review the last question you did or finish the last few questions in the quiz you were already taking. 2) A mechanism for providing specific feedback on questions or explanations in the app. The only feedback you can give in the app is a thumbs up or thumbs down for the “quality” of a given question. There should also be a mechanism for users to provide some free-text feedback on questions, even if it has to be categorized by the user first by choosing an option like “incorrect answer” or “typo in question”, “typo in explanation”, “missing information”, “technical issue”, “unclear explanation”, etc. For example, if a question is good and almost everything in the explanation is correct and helpful, but there’s a significant typo in the explanation, then a thumbs up or down is not sufficient to clearly communicate the issue with the question and it will take longer to identify and correct the issue with that question. ### 4/5 — iOS 18 update *2024-09-26, version 3.1.3* So much better with app overhaul. Easy to use and looks really nice. Keeps crashing now when taking notes during exam reviews. Possibly since iOS 18 just came out. ### 3/5 — Good *2024-08-22, version 3.0.1* I like the interface but I’ve noticed two flaws so far. It gives a demo to tap twice on an answer choice to strike through it but then it doesn’t show that that answer choice is striked through until it shows your answers at the end of the quiz. It also at times is stating that I am getting some questions incorrect then stating that they are correct ### 4/5 — Very good question bank, bad app *2024-08-12, version 2.1.1* Dashboard doesn’t even work to show you any stats when you pull up like the web browser version does. Does fine when you create a new test and answer questions on it, but frankly is not very slick, lacking in features, and occasionally buggy especially when considering how much the overall question bank costs to subscribe to in the first place ### 2/5 — Crashed since June *2024-08-12, version 2.1.1* Not sure if anyone else is facing this issue, but despite deleting and redownloading the app, it has been entirely unusable (blank dashboard, blank previous tests) since June. Bummer! ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Greedy Business Practice *2025-09-06, version 3.2.8* The questions and answer explanations are excellent. I’m giving it a one star review due to the fact that although you purchase a subscription for a set duration of time ( ex. 3 months, 6 months, a year) TrueLearn also secretly caps the number of questions you can do in that time frame. Keep in mind there are about 1000 unique questions, but they cap the number of times you can answer these questions in their “tests”. So I purchased I 6 month subscription expecting to be able to practice unlimited reviews during that time period, but I got a message today saying I have a question cap of 3850 reviews with my subscription and I am already at 2500 reviews. Very very greedy. ### 1/5 — Greedy Business Model *2025-06-25* So in addition to buying a subscription for a length of time you also buy it for a limited number of question answers. So my program bought us all a 12 month subscription but I hit my question allowance in March and now will need to buy a second subscription in order to keep studying. The data such as average national scores and percentile differs from the website. The app frequently crashed and if you select an image you have a close the app to get back to your question. The thousands of practice questions and realistic case scenarios have helped me improve not only my knowledge but also my clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. The rationales are clear, detailed, and make every question a valuable learning experience. One feature I really appreciate is the ability to easily retake the questions I missed. It allows me to focus on my weak areas, reinforce important concepts, and track my progress over time. Once you’ve built a strong foundation, TrueLearn helps put everything together and challenges you to think like a physical therapist rather than just memorize information. Well designed app. I reached out to customer service once and was quickly given a solution that greatly exceeded my expectations. I’ve used others like UWorld, Combank, and amboss, but for the price, quality, customer service, app, and all around package, TrueLearn has been my favorite and I keep choosing it over other banks for test prep. For what it’s worth, I wound up in a very highly regarded residency and TrueLearn was 80%+ of my question bank time for level one and two. The questions are tough, but the explanations are super helpful and even when I miss, I usually get them right the second time.
