Don’t let the plain graphics fool you. If you like puzzle games you can get hooked on this one. I will upgrade my review to 5 stars if, in a future update, you can save and load designs you’ve created previously - THEN this game would be just about perfect. ### 4/5 — Tough crash *2017-02-02, version 1.91* Great app, but short of a few things, a more progressive scale of success showing how close you are to the next Gold Nut, or a target weight would be nice. I've completed level 15 lots of different ways but still no Gold Nut and no indication of what I'm doing wrong, only the title 'Tough Crash' to go by. Add them please! ### 3/5 — Great, but... *2016-11-16, version 1.91* A really great tool for structural design. By the way, this is not a "game". I use the Truss Me tool to evaluate and compare different truss models. But I'm disappointed that I cannot save any work and, worse, if my iPhone goes to sleep, then all my work disappears. ### 4/5 — Great fun, but... *2016-07-06, version 1.91* This game is serious fun, and I mean that very literally. It's a great idea, it's loads of fun, the 3-star scoring adds replay value, AND it's a seriously great tool for teaching the basics of truss design. If you're embarking on the design of an epic toothpick or dried spaghetti structure, start here! This is the most fun I've had since Cat Physics, the best iPhone game ever. However, after the third level the frustration exceeded the fun. This game DESPERATELY needs snap: Snap to mid-point of rod, snap to straight, 90 (30, 60, 45) degrees, vertical, horizontal, etc.. It's very frustrating trying to slide a node along a rod, looking for the mid-point, trying to keep the rod straight, getting no feedback, and not being able to see what I'm doing because it's all happening underneath my fingertip (#iphone_needs_stylus!). It stops being about truss design and becomes a fight with the user interface. That's not fun, or educational. Also, at some zoom levels it's impossible to straighten a rod with a node in the (approximate) middle of it. Snap would fix that. If I were making a wish list I'd include continuous coordinate/angle readout as I move nodes, and some easy way to make a structure symmetrical. Word balloons when you tap a control, identifying that control, would speed up the learning curve. I really hope this app continues to be developed, because I'm eager to get back to playing it, but without the frustration. ### 2/5 — A good start *2014-12-02, version 1.5* Love the idea, but the implementation is too frustrating to use in its current basic state. You can't move pivots without removing all struts, and you can necessarily see stress points as failure is sometimes too quick to observe. Could be awesome a with a UI overhaul, but it's just tedious to fight the interface at every step. ### 3/5 — It's almost awesome *2014-10-18, version 1.4* Just can't seem to make any structure that can stand on it's own under it's own weight. Even a small triangle collapses. What is the material? Clay? Jello? Slurpee straws? That aside, I think it's a great idea. You "solve it" but get few points. That implies a more elegant solution must exist. It claims to teach you but without some suggestions it only leaves you frustrated. So why do I keep playing it? After you walk through the initial instructions, you never get any more feedback. I'd love to understand trusses more. But, I'm just left to figure out each on on my own. I have passed all 15 levels, but many with one star. I wish there was a companion web tutorial or even a suggestion of where to look for more information. ### 2/5 — Great idea of a game but so buggy *2014-03-21, version 1.3* I love this game but I guess I'm one of he guinea pigs. It is so buggy, as if it wasn't ready to be released yet. Mid-game the screen flicks of to the side and reveals some programming code on the left. If you click the upper left corner of the original screen it flicks back to normal but the items on screencan't be picked anymore. Too many bugs. ### 1/5 — May be accurate but NOT a game *2019-10-03, version 1.91* Simply adding 0-3 "gold nut" ratings as a "scoring" mechanism doesn't make something a game. Let's break this thing down: 1) No instructions. Period. 2) Any kind of GOAL for each stage. First stage? I got 3 gold nuggets! Second stage? One. WHY? Who knows! I used the minimum possible struts with the minimum possible widths. What was I supposed to do? Oh, I got it... Delete this. ### 1/5 — Are you reading your own reviews? *2019-09-15* Look at the moon landing, level 14. Where are the requirements? You supply no directions, no explanations of devices that are added to the structure, no required goal.......... This could be easily added as a main menu. You were asked for this over 2 years ago. ### 1/5 — Camera access? Why? *2015-12-22, version 1.5* When you start playing it asks permission to access your camera. I found it weird but allowed it. Game wasn't user friendly and I didn't see reason why it would need my camera at all for this game. No positives. No explanation why one solution is better than another to raise your score. To make matters worse it asked for access to the camera for no reason and with no explanation. Very dull, crashes regularly and online support is gone. ### 1/5 — Not as Accurate as they claim *2014-07-20, version 1.4* As a mechanical engineer, I find their physics engine to be quite lackluster. Unless, of course, the bridges are being built with rubber, since their tensile load seems to be about 10x their compression load. Maybe they're just cables, so they can't support a compression load at all. Who knows. ### 1/5 — Not realistic *2014-04-17, version 1.3* Picture a square structure, only 2 major gridlines in dimension, with 2 cross-bracing members. Now picture both cross-bracing members and both vertical members buckling... This might happen with a very flexible and heavy metal (not Metallica) but not with any type of material containing the properties necessary for structural integrity. It not only computes the behavior of trusses but also provides great visual feedback. For example, you can visualize both the deformation of the structure and the stresses on the bars. No other app I am aware of shows stresses, which are crucial for understanding the difference between tension and compression. In this app blue means compression, and you can easily see how compressed bars buckle! The gaming aspect makes it even more interesting.
