## What is Tryout Assistant?

TryoutsAssistant helps coaches capture player observations fast during live tryouts—without typing.

Start a session, add or import your roster, then tap record and speak naturally. Mention a player’s jersey number in your note (for example: “player 12 great first touch, quick decisions” or "12 has a great first touch, quick feet") and TryoutsAssistant will transcribe your speech and attribute observations to the right player so you can review everything later.
Tip: for jersey numbers 1–11, saying “player 6…” can help avoid confusion with position talk (e.g., “as a six”).

XLSX Import: Multi-Sheet & Header Row Support
• Files with multiple sheets now show a sheet picker so you can choose exactly which tab to import.
• A header row stepper lets you tell the app which row contains column names, with a live preview of the row content as you step through.
• Auto-detection of the header row now requires at least two recognized column types before committing, preventing title rows from being mistaken for headers.
Import: Column Mapping Redesigned
• Replaced the column-by-column mapping list with a field-centric UI — you see the fields that matter (Jersey #, First Name, Last Name, Birthday, Parent info) and pick which column from your file feeds each one.
• Column options are labeled with spreadsheet-style letters (A, B, C…) alongside the actual header name for easy identification.
• Mappings are one-to-one: assigning a column to a field automatically clears it from any previous assignment.
• Unused columns are silently ignored.
Import: Transparency on New vs. Update
• Preview now shows separate counts for new players and players being updated.
• Individual player rows in the preview are badged 'update' when they match an existing jersey number.
• Import button label reflects the split, e.g. 'Import 20 Players (15 new, 5 update)'.
• An info banner explains that existing notes and ratings are preserved on updates.
Import: Bug Fixes
• Fixed 'Returning Blast Player' column being incorrectly mapped to Full Name, which caused first names to be overwritten with 'Yes'.
• Fixed malformed date strings with trailing dashes (e.g. 2015-08-01-) failing to parse.
• Removed overly broad tokens from column type matching to reduce false-positive header detection.
Roster: Player Deletion
• Swipe left on any player row in list view to reveal a Delete action.
• Edit sheet (long-press → Edit Name in grid view) now includes a 'Remove from Roster' button at the bottom.
Players: Auto-hide unavailable players (pushed to the bottom in a dropdown tab.
