### 2/5 — Can’t find specific news items

*2024-10-15, version 5.1.1*

This is the scenario that happens all too frequently:
I get the ADS “latest headlines” email. I click on an article I wish to read. Instead of opening in the app, it opens in a browser and insists I sign in. I don’t remember my password, so I open the app and the “latest headline” I’m looking for is impossible to find.
I give up and wonder why I’m paying for this at all.

### 2/5 — not worth it

*2023-12-20, version 5.0*

i hardly open this app up because it is always asking to subscribe , subscribe, subscribe. why your app isn't worth it.
the news on this app isn't help or interesting. GET REAL guys!!

### 2/5 — Subscription only for only partial content

*2023-12-09, version 5.0*

I’ve had this app for years, and articles used to be tiered. Some articles were for subscribers only while others could be accessed in the app with a fair amount of ads. The app would frequently crash, and articles listed in alerts would be nonexistent when one clicked on the alert. Now the app has a limit for articles though this was never disclosed anywhere. Payment does not give you access to all articles since some are still marked “for subscribers only.” Apparently subscribing to the app doesn’t count as a subscription. At least other newspaper apps allow a certain number of stories per month. I deleted the app.

### 4/5 — Print edition

*2022-08-28, version 4.7.1*

Lower the price so I can get back to folding pages!!

### 3/5 — Poor photo formatting

*2022-02-01, version 4.7.1*

Many minor shortcomings in this app, but the most annoying is the way the photo at the top of an article often appears as if badly cropped, with the upper half of the subject’s head missing. I have an iPhone 12 with the most-recent version of IOS. What’s up?

### 3/5 — Tucson.com toilet😂 review

*2021-09-28, version 4.7.1*

Definitely enjoyed the content. I’d say I would’ve really really really enjoyed it (took it from like a 7 to a 10), if the content was a bit broader! Love the local update, just need to hear about a few more different styles of topics!

### 3/5 — Security Warning

*2021-02-13, version 4.7.1*

Just a word of caution that this app snoops for personal information. I am now routinely getting notifications that the app is accessing clipboard data. I hope they will discontinue this practice with a future release.

### 1/5 — Scare tactics

*2020-07-07, version 4.7.1*

I know there have be some positive news stories out there. Why can’t any of those ever be reported? All those scary numbers you toss out daily...how many of those have recovered from COVID and how many are people who test positive more then once???

### 2/5 — No auto rotate on iPad

*2020-06-28, version 4.7.1*

This app performs the basic functions for a news reader; except allowing for a portrait format. While some may like reading their news with two hands, I do not. Disabling a basic function within the iPad makes little sense.

### 2/5 — Tucson.com

*2020-02-09, version 4.7.1*

Would like to see more emphasis on the local news.

Sports seems OK.

National and world I can get more and better from Apple and Fox.

Thank you.

Dennis

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Needs work.

*2023-10-28, version 5.0*

App is clunky. Crashes a lot for ads.

### 1/5 — Content now locked behind a paywall

*2023-10-13, version 5.0*

Title says it all.

### 1/5 — Terrible

*2023-10-03, version 5.0*

Constantly getting notifications for stories that just flat out don’t exist and every interesting story is locked behind a paywall, even though the app is infested with ads!

### 1/5 — Please download Grammarly

*2023-05-23, version 4.7.1*

Does anyone proofread the ‘news’ before putting it out to the public?

### 1/5 — Dying newspaper struggles to survive… poorly

*2022-06-09, version 4.7.1*

The app has always been poorly designed, and the reporting was sub-par, but it was a source of local news so I was an occasional reader. But now they added the regular weed report… I just can’t respect a new source like this. Is this what they have to do to get readers now? It’s a sad state of affairs. The Daily Star should just be put out of its misery. Maybe I’ll try the local TV news apps.

### 1/5 — Poor selection of news

*2022-06-09, version 4.7.1*

Near worthless, leftwing biased reporting with minimal content.
If you want to view obituaries, the site does cover these.

### 1/5 — Ads

*2022-05-29, version 4.7.1*

I would Never Recommend this service because of excessive ads.

### 1/5 — Tom Stellar

*2021-08-18, version 4.7.1*

Leftist trash. Romero is an empty headed moron along w her liberal staff. Constantly lifted up by Stellar and his leftist articles.

### 1/5 — Dead end

*2021-01-12, version 4.7.1*

Used to be a good app. Now it is useless. Don’t waste your time

### 1/5 — Many glitches

*2020-11-16, version 4.7.1*

When tapping to see the whole article on the first page, the whole screen locks up. I stopped using the app because of this issue. I waited several months to see if the issue was resolved but no it hasn’t been!

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Daily read

*2025-11-07, version 5.2*

I can’t picture a day without The Arizona Daily Star. It keeps me up to date on local an national news.

### 5/5 — Good, reliable read.

*2023-09-06, version 4.7.1*

This is a great way to read about Tucson’s happenings and citizens.

### 5/5 — Easy access; good coverage: great support

*2023-02-20, version 4.7.1*

We’re thinking of moving to Tucson, wanted a way to get familiar ahead of time. Tried others; this seems right. Good support: ¡important! Good coverage (seems, both sides, but who’m I?). Even better tnan some of my usual news feeds. I look in daily. [p.s., from elsewhere in the world: You folks in Tucson seem so calm and reasoned. What the heck are you? Civilized??)]

### 5/5 — Best Available

*2022-01-01, version 4.7.1*

This is the best available electronic news reporting available.

### 5/5 — Thanks for the information about Tucson area

*2021-02-25, version 4.7.1*

### 5/5 — Tucson News App

*2021-02-25, version 4.7.1*

Ahhh, the faithful little app that keeps me connected with local news.

### 5/5 — Love it!

*2020-06-22, version 4.7.1*

Minimal notifications but reports what I want to know locally and nationally.

### 5/5 — Please Subscribe

*2020-05-31, version 4.7.1*

It’s wonderful to have easy access to what’s going on in our city and our own neighborhoods. Support local news! Subscribe to the paper or online edition of the AZ Daily Star! No local news would be very bad news!

### 5/5 — THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!

*2020-04-04, version 4.7.1*

Everyone - please subscribe to the Arizona Daily Star!!!!

### 5/5 — Timely updates

*2020-03-30, version 4.7.1*

Normally, I focus on national and international news. The Coronavirus has changed that quite a bit for me. As such, I look to tucson.com daily to inform myself on the virus and other local news related to how it has affected day-to-day life in Tucson.
