## What is Tuna?

You didn't buy your groceries just to throw them away later. No more forgetting about that bag of carrots at the back of the fridge, or throwing out strawberries nobody ate.

Tuna loads everything you have into one digital pantry your household shares, tracks every expiration date, and tells you well before anything goes bad. Then it helps you figure out who'll eat it and when.

Digitize your pantry
- Scan multiple items: scan or search from our database of over a million foods, one after another, to load what you already have.
- Scan a grocery receipt to easily add a whole shopping trip at once.
- Most foods come with their details filled in from our vast database.
- Customize pantry sections: all your fridges, freezers, pantries, or whatever you call them.

Easily manage your pantry
- Use voice controls to track what your household cooks and eats.
- "The kids each had a cheese stick" logs a snack for everyone.
- "I made the chicken bowls for four" cooks the recipe and takes the ingredients out of the pantry.
- "The rest of the spinach went bad" records it, so it stops counting as on hand.

Cook what you love
- Import the recipes you know how to make from a link, or snap a photo of a cookbook page.
- Tuna connects every ingredient to what's in your pantry, so you know what to make.
- Cook it, and the pantry counts down for you. Leftovers go back in with their own date.

Share with your household
- Everyone in the house sees the same pantry, so "do we already have this?" takes one look.
- One shared grocery list that updates as you shop.
- One subscription covers the whole household.

No more waste
- Expiring food alerts let you know well before food goes bad.
- Clean the Fridge: work through what's expiring in one pass. Plan it for a meal, move it to the freezer, or mark it All gone.
- Use It Up shows meals you've made and recipes you saved that use what needs eating.
- When something's gone, say whether it was eaten or tossed.

Where it leads
Keep the pantry current and the rest follows: log what everyone eats, see how it lines up with your nutrition goals, plan a few days ahead, and buy only what you need.

Free to start. Big Tuna removes the limits for everyone in your household.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.1.2 — 2026-10-10

- Start cooking: cook a recipe one step at a time. See what to get out and which shelf it's on, run timers that ring with your phone locked, and pick up where you left off.
- Say what you have: tell Tuna what you bought, ate or tossed, out loud or typed, then confirm the list. It works in Talk to Tuna and in Scan Multiple Items.
- Scan Multiple Items is rebuilt: a full-screen scanner, search and voice in one panel, and a quick card for each item.
- Receipts show what became of each trip, and a line can be split across pantry sections.
- A new grocery list, recipe cards with swipes, and a spending page that shows what got tossed.

### 1.1.1 — 2026-10-05

- Pantry swipes are back. Swipe right to plan an item, or to pitch it when it is past its date. Swipe left to move it or mark it all gone.
- Select several pantry items at once: long press a row, or use Select items in the menu. Move them all to one shelf, or mark them all gone as eaten or tossed.
- When the last of something leaves your pantry, we ask whether to put it on your grocery list.

### 1.1.0 — 2026-10-03

Patch 1.1: Waste Not

Pantry cards. Tap any item and it opens right where it sits: when it expires, what it cost, which section it's in, what's already planned. Plan, Move and All gone are on the card, plus Pitch for food past its date.

Clean the Fridge is now a mode of the pantry list, with Expiring soon and Expired tabs. Work through it in place, then press Done.

All gone asks the honest question: eaten, tossed, or a bit of both? Waste stops hiding inside "we ate it."

Plan to use it. Eat it at a meal or cook it into something, starting from the meals you've made with it.

Cooking takes from the carton that expires first.

Customize pantry sections. Spice Cabinet, Garage Freezer, whatever you make, each with a color and an icon. Where it's kept sets the date.

Not in the catalog? Estimate it: homemade or restaurant, one plate or the whole dish.

### 1.0.4 — 2026-08-26

- Recipes: the second tab is your recipe library again, with sort and filters — "Can make tonight", "Use up soon", total time, tags — when you last cooked each dish, and a green Ready badge when everything's on hand.
- Make it: when a dish needs something you'd first have to make — brewed coffee, separated eggs, the dry mix — we now offer the prep that makes it and cook it on the spot. What a prep produces on the side (egg whites, bacon grease) lands in your pantry as its own leftovers, Keep or Toss.
- Pantry places: every item lives in the pantry, fridge, or freezer, with USDA shelf lives for each. Move an item and the clock follows; freeze part of a pack and thaw just what you need.
- Produce stickers scan now: the camera reads the printed PLU number, since those stickers have no barcode.
- Voice logging moved to a "Talk to Tuna" button on the meal planner, hears you better, and what it logs shows up immediately.
- Grocery check-offs survive store wifi, and the list holds its order while you shop.

### 1.0.3 — 2026-08-14

- Voice logging: tap the mic on Home and say what happened. "The kids each had a cheese stick" logs a meal for anyone in the household, "I made the chicken bowls for four" cooks the recipe and draws its ingredients down, "the rest of the spinach went bad" records waste. It reads back what it heard, and nothing counts until you confirm it.
- The Menu now reads like a restaurant's: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, and All Recipes tabs, each one ranked against a real meal slot so what's expiring gets somewhere to go.
- The planner fills itself in: an empty slot names the dish suggested for it, home leads with the meal that still needs deciding, and eating out is a one-tap skip. Set your grocery trips per week and how far ahead to plan under Settings, Planning.
- Pantry rows gain "Make something with this" — the recipes and meal ideas that use that item, cooked straight into whichever meal you pick.
- Calories now read off the label the way it's printed. A panel that leads with kilojoules no longer lands as 994 calories when it says 290, and calories burned from a workout are no longer off by a factor of a thousand.
