### 3/5 — Occasional weird-Outages

*2026-06-21, version 9.2.2*

I LOVE this app and WANT to give it 5 stars, but twice over the past 9 months, it logs me in with no issues, but then plasters the music with SUBSCRIBE flyouts. I reloaded it twice and lost all my favorites. And still the same problem rears its ugly head. You can see my name, and the settings look like I’m logged in, but no access.PLEASE GUYS can’t you fix this?

### 2/5 — Can’t change the Key

*2026-04-16*

This app was really helpful at first, but then I joined an actual band where we need to adjust some of the songs based on key and it became useless. I canceled my subscription due to the limiting nature of not being able to shift keys. Maybe this is user error and if so I’d be willing to give this another shot- but what good is it if I can’t switch a song from G to A to accommodate my singer? For this reason I’m returning to Strum Machine, it’s simple, cheaper, and while it doesn’t have all the fancy features- at least I can change the key

**Developer response:** Thank you for your review! Just wanted to let you know the app actually has a Capo function that transposes both the backing track and the solo — so you can easily switch a song key to suit your singer. We'd love to have you back if you'd like to give it another try!

### 3/5 — Banjo tuner can’t find the banjo tuner

*2025-06-09, version 9.1.4*

I can’t find the banjo tuner, all I need to do is tune the b string, but I can’t find a tuner

### 3/5 — 😔

*2024-09-22, version 9.1.3*

It’s a good learning app, but there are only so many songs. I can’t learn the songs I want to.

### 4/5 — Good App for Learning Mandolin

*2024-03-15*

Although I enjoy the App and think that it's helped me a lot with my mandolin playing, there are two issues which prevent it from getting a 5 star rating. The first issue is that when in learning mode, the music never starts at the count in. It jumps in at the first note much too quickly for me to actually play the first measure. I always have to enter learning mode, stop the music, hit the "back to beginning" button, and go from there. The second issue is more of a nice to have - sync my progress across my various devices. Finally, a request - please let me delete stuff I've looked at but am not interested in from Back to the Beat.

### 3/5 — Not free

*2024-03-04, version 9.0.2*

Need a subscription to use

### 5/5 — Tunefox

*2023-11-02, version 9.0.0*

I’ve been playing the banjo for 2 years. This is by far the best way to learn the banjo. Great lessons and hundreds of songs to learn to play. Plus they add new songs every month.

### 5/5 — Love Tune Fox!

*2023-09-22*

I had to take a couple of months off from banjo lessons when a family member was injured. Once I found Tune Fox, I was able to pick up where I left off. I’ll definitely resume lessons this month, but am still going to use this stellar app to improve my skills. I’ve had a couple of minor issues when on iPad, but it’s been mostly smooth sailing. I use Bluetooth headphones with one ear on and the other off, so I can hear my mistakes (or lack of em!) I love that you can change app settings to help you improve playing by ear, playing faster, and slowly adding challenges. Great selection of BG tunes too! CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH TUNE FOX! Well worth the reasonable price.

### 3/5 — Great but pricey

*2022-12-29, version 8.6.3*

Absolutely the best way to learn anything bluegrass on any instrument, the only issue is how much is locked behind a $15 a month subscription.

### 5/5 — Learning Banjo

*2022-12-28, version 8.6.3*

I love the way you can slow the music up or make it easier or harder. This has been extremely helpful for me to learn with and it is fun!!

### 5/5 — I’ve been looking for this!

*2022-09-04*

As a newbie banjo player, I’ve been looking for an app where I could practice and go at my own pace! This is better than I could’ve imagined! I love how you can slow the tempo and make it easier and harder, based on your progress. I love how it shows the tabs. Lessons are bite sized, so progress feels easy! Thank you for making this! I recommend it to everyone!

### 5/5 — Phil

*2022-06-04*

Excellent learning tool. Great versatility and options. Could do with more new tunes that auto load and notify member when they are added 👍👍😎

**Developer response:** Hey Phil, we are glad you like the app. Thanks for your review. TF Team

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Latest release is full of bugs

*2026-01-11, version 9.2.1*

The interface randomly looses back buttons, there are pages without content, it’s slow. Get rid of the AI slop images as well.

### 1/5 — ….

*2026-01-03, version 9.2.1*

Can only print tabs if your a lifetime member..

### 1/5 — App is a scam

*2025-10-01, version 9.1.4*

I signed up and paid the monthly fee and I’m not able to access the app. I believe the app is a scam.

### 1/5 — Cancelled subscription but still took money out of my account.

*2025-08-27, version 9.1.4*

I canceled my subscription and it still took money out of my account. Saying that I didn’t actually cancel it, but I remember specifically canceling because money is tight. So now I’m down 15 dollars that I could have used for bills.

### 1/5 — Don't waste your time

*2025-08-13*

Downloaded this app looking for banjo tabs, but was immediately slapped in the face by AI thumbnails. As I scrolled the tabs, every. single. one. had an AI thumbnail. It really lost my trust in the validity of the app. How do I know if the tabs and lessons are even made by people who have had to learn music themselves? Not to mention the fact they didn't care enough to even grab a stock image. They could even have no images if they really couldn't be bothered to get an artist/photographer! I'm not going to waste my time on an app that doesn't care about its content.

### 1/5 — Worst sign up procedure ever

*2025-07-30, version 9.1.4*

Tunefox

### 1/5 — It’s subscription based

*2023-12-15, version 9.0.2*

I did not subscribe so I can’t rate how the app does to teach you to play whatever instrument(s) you want to pay for. I rated it one star because it claims to be free but in real life it wants a minimum of $15 which sounds like way too much for even one online lesson for any instrument.

If they’d made the cost obvious I would not have downloaded the app and therefore not left the unfavorable review.

### 1/5 — They take your money AFTER you cancel your subscription

*2023-01-29*

Nothing wrong with the app. It’s great. But I cancelled a year ago only to find they had taken £70 out of my account without any subscription being active either in iPhone or the app.

**Developer response:** Hello wrf2020, please contact us on support@tunefox.com and we can surely figure out where the problem is. Thank you, Jiri

### 1/5 — You have to be kidding.

*2021-05-24, version 6.9.9*

I literally just wanted a tuning app for bass and guitar. I’m not going to register for an account to do that.

If you’re looking for an easy, basic tuner, look elsewhere.

### 1/5 — Only one phone

*2021-03-14, version 6.9.6*

Its on me and my parents phone but it only works on one

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Exceptional

*2026-01-16*

Ive decided to try and learn the 5 string banjo, I’m in my 50s and been meaning to give it a go for some time. After a few months of doing my own thing I discovered this app. I’m still in the early stages of banjo playing and this app. But so far so good, the app is fantastic and has made a huge difference already. I would highly recommend it.

### 5/5 — Awesomeness !

*2025-11-22*

Such a great app! Clear layout, intuitive. The song arrangements have layers so you can learn the basics of a tune and then add embellishments, change speed and fancy licks as you progress. New content gets added each month. There are learning tracks to follow, or you can just dial up a tune, a scale or some exercises to practice your instrument. I love how much the app has progressed, and the future looks bright!

### 5/5 — Incredible app

*2025-07-15, version 9.1.4*

The more I use this app, the more I am amazed with it. Hands-down incredible.

### 5/5 — Single best app you will use.

*2025-04-28*

Companies come along like this sometimes that provide so much value you feel you are the one getting the better deal. This is Tunefox. I don’t work for them, I have no affiliation, I’m not paid. I just wanted to learn Banjo. I’ve used Yousician, Rocksmith etc etc. NOTHING compares to the quality of Tunefox.

It’s unreal how well built it is. In both learning development and in UI/UX they have crushed this app. I am confident anyone using it will know it IS a gold standard for a play along with side lessons music app.

The biggest criticism? They don’t have more instruments.

So thank you to TuneFox - I hope you read your reviews. Clearly levels of passion and competence went into this app. I wish I could support you more than by word of mouth, but do know I am DEFINITELY speaking praises.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your amazing review!
Your kind words made our day and your word-of-mouth support means everything to us.
Thanks a lot, cheers,
Jiri, Tunefox

### 5/5 — A perfect addition to those learning how to play

*2025-01-04*

I’m old and I’m left handed. I spent 4 years trying to learn how to play the violin as a child. Not being able to learn how to read music after such an extended period of time, I finally gave up. Accepting the fact that I was the lone member of my family who simply didn’t have the ability to play. 40 years later and I’m not only learning but it’s happening far easier than I could have imagined. This app was exactly what I needed. Thank you.

### 5/5 — Phil
