### 2/5 — Useful app - when it doesn’t stop syncing

*2025-01-24, version 3.2.5*

This is a useful app, when it works!

What works well/is useful:
- It provides to only means to undertake marking offline through Turnitin’s Feedback Studio. Although arguably education institutions should demand that this feature is made available for other operating systems. Educators should not be required to buy an iPad to be able to do their marking offline!
- When adding comments in-text and in the summary box, the dictation functionality works well and saves a lot of time.

**Careful if using it via Canvas integration**
Using Feedback Studio through Canvas, it is possible to request a link in order to add a class and grade on the app - necessary as the only solution to grade offline and given that Feedback Studio does not seem to work at all on the browser on an iPad. However, it randomly decided that I needed to enter a username and password, which I never had as I logged in via the special link. It then stop syncing altogether so I have a bunch of work on the iPad which will not upload to the cloud. The online guidance acknowledges this issue but tells users to reinstall the app or log off and log in with credentials, rather than via the email link. However, both options mean the unsynced data will be lost.
There is very little guidance online and the supposed 24/7 support were slow to respond and never admitted that there was no solution - I simply had to decide to cut my loses.

Other things that don’t work well:
- The app randomly crashes when connected to the internet, often losing the last comment added.
- You have to press “done” on the summary comment for it to save, this is on the top left hand corner of the comment box, which is in no way intuitive.
- The search function when adding pre-set in text comments is terrible, you have to know what set the comment is in in order to use the search and it is case sensitive / can only find exact matches.
- If you tap a particular word to add a comment it selects the whole line and it is then difficult to select the specific text without accidentally swiping to the next submission altogether.

### 3/5 — Big bug fix

*2024-02-06*

The app now synchronizes with submitted student papers, and is usable once again. Hallelujah!

### 3/5 — It does the job

*2023-11-20, version 3.2.5*

Yes, it can be temperamental… But the most recent update allowing submissions to load is life-saving.
Thank you for fixing the bug!

### 1/5 — Bugsss

*2023-11-15*

I used to love the app but now is full of bugs… one cannot del papers it erases work very annoying … do better why have an app that is pretty much useless now

### 1/5 — What happened?

*2023-11-02*

This used to be incredibly useful, streamlining my grading, and helping me comment on essays with efficiency. I advocated for it constantly. it’s 100% non-usable for me now. What’s worse is that the desktop app itself is glitchy more than ever as well. Somethings wrong at Turnitin.

### 1/5 — Disappointing

*2023-11-01*

This app is so overdue for updates. The company says they’re working on correcting issues, but at this point it’s useless and I’m sure if thousands of instructors have given up on it. It’s a shame.

### 1/5 — Doesn’t work; keeps getting worse

*2023-10-29*

Feedback Studio gets worse with each update. Can’t even see paper submissions anymore.

### 1/5 — no longer works

*2023-10-26*

The app no longer syncs or works with the website at all. Useless.

### 2/5 — Degraded

*2023-10-20, version 3.2.4*

It used to work like a charm on an iPad. Now, it has a lot of issues to connect and to have updated information about assignments submitted. I must mark in the web browser. Please bring back a properly working app!

### 1/5 — Is it still supported?

*2023-10-19, version 3.2.4*

Had app crashing issue and so deleted and re - downloaded from App Store. Now can’t login on previous account or create a new account.

### 1/5 — Keeps getting worse

*2023-10-04*

The app needs a major update since it is unusable at this point.

### 1/5 — This app is utterly neglected by developer.

*2023-10-02*

This app is utterly neglected by the developer after many years of working well. Many instructors, like myself, have come grade essays using this and incorporated it into our course methodology and feedback for students. It’s been about a month now and this still is not working as it was in August. Please attend to this app, Turnitin! Fix this!

### 1/5 — Does not load submissions

*2023-09-29*

The app was already not ideal, but now assignment submissions for new classes won't load. I can see submissions from previous classes, but new assignment submissions all appear as past due when the submission clearly there when viewing the class in a browser. Turnitin has been extremely slow to fix an issue that more than just a bug. If you can't load student submissions in the app, you can't use the app to grade paper, making the app completely worthless.

### 1/5 — If Only It Worked. . . .

*2023-09-17*

I keep wanting to give this app a chance, and it keeps wasting my time. It’s full of bugs, will close suddenly in the middle of your using it, and sometimes even fails to sync whole sets of graded papers (forcing the instructor to do the work all over again). Now it’s telling me that a whole set of papers my students have submitted through my learning management system are “not available” and that my comments won’t be viewable till March, 2024—about six months from now, once my class is over. This app is just too difficult to use. What a pity. Turnitin should be ashamed, considering how much money they make and how many instructors use their product. if I could give it less than one star, I would.

### 1/5 — I wish I could give 0 stars

*2023-09-01, version 3.2.4*

Like others, I used to find the IPad App a delight which really helped make smooth work of marking. Now the app is unfortunately completely unusable. Doesn’t synch, and only shows classes as no active classes! When it’s reported, advice is to use the web based service on a PC, entirely defeating the point of having an iPad app in the first place. I rather suspect Turnitin has given up on the App, in which case it would be helpful just to say so and put everyone out of their misery.

### 1/5 — Not working well at the moment

*2023-08-30*

I have used the app quite a bit, but the current iteration just doesn’t seem to work. Today, for example, it sees that assignments have been turned in, but when I go to grade them, it shows that they are not turned in and says “assignment unavailable.” so it’s back to using the laptop for grading rather than a mobile device.

### 1/5 — When are you going to fix this?

*2023-08-13, version 3.2.4*

Love marking on my iPad, hate losing all the hard work I’ve done due to App bugs & failures. Please make this work again!

### 1/5 — Completely broken now

*2023-07-19, version 3.2.4*

Stuck on the “Currently upgrading your app” screen. Can’t progress past that. This app used to be amazing for giving verbal feedback on the iPad. It’s now completely useless.

### 1/5 — App doesn’t work at all

*2023-05-28*

The app used to be the best part of Turnitin. The drag and drop comments made it so easy to grade on my train commute. But for months the app has not worked at all. It crashes immediately. They say they are working on it, but they obviously aren’t giving it any attention. Very disappointed.

### 1/5 — An app that had promise and then crashed and burned

*2023-05-18, version 3.2.4*

So I’ve been using the Turnitin app way back since the iPad second generation was released. I thought that the future had come early when I was marking reports on my new iPad while watching the cricket live in the stadium. It was just a nirvana moment. I loved the integration and was pretty chuffed with it all.

Then it just went down hill a little and became a bit unwieldy, having to get codes for every single paper I marked. But then, feedback studio strolled into the scene and with it a new fresh shiny app. I was logged in to my institution and had pulled down all my classes to mark! I felt integrated and empowered to break free of the confines of being a desk slave with this sleek new platform.

But alas, my story does not have a happy ending. Updates where had, singing in disappeared along with the lack of blackboard integration of Turnitin and so back to the Stone Age of getting codes from papers to get the cohort open in the app. But, at least we have a nice app to work with in iOS, albeIt clunky access to cohorts.

Nope. It needed an update. How dare an app be so functional. Throw in all the killbits to drive them back to their desks.

Open app. Crash
Reopen app. Crash
Open subject. Crash
Open assessment. Crash
Open student paper. Crash
Mark said student paper. Crash

Lose all summative comments just typed up for that student after mid type crash… priceless.

I need some stability in my life. If you are like me, make sure you have another source of stability around you while you use this app.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Glitchy and deeply frustrating to work with

*2025-05-20, version 3.2.5*

This app is essentially no longer supported. There is a persistent error which signs out users who are accessing work in Turnitin via a link from blackboard, rather than a direct sign in. Once this happens it stops syncing any of your marking until you delete and redownload the app. Turnitin have made no updates to fix this, making using the app a risky business, to be tried only by those who have no alternative. It used to make marking portable, making my job so much easier. Now it’s a nightmare, and there is no indication that this is going to change in the near future. I’m still stuck with it when I need to work mobile, but if you possibly can AVOID AVOID AVOID

### 1/5 — It doesn’t work

*2024-12-13, version 3.2.5*

Don’t bother, it just doesn’t work.

### 1/5 — Deletes grading progress

*2024-12-03*

Just spent hours grading for the app to tell me I have no internet connection (I did), kick me off, and then delete all of my edits, rubrics, and grades. Would not recommend and will never use again.

### 1/5 — I used to love it, now it’s unusable.

*2024-10-01*

This app used to work just fine on my iPad. It’s been showing no active assignments for all my classes and their recommendation is to use the website. The website is more inconvenient. I don’t have time to grade 150 + papers by using the time consuming website…. I will not be recommending this product anymore. Whoever is in charge now needs to be fired.

### 1/5 — Abandoned.

*2024-08-28, version 3.2.5*

As others have noted, the app crashes and will lose you hours - even days - of work. Clearly the makers have abandoned this app since it is not even mentioned on their website now. One can only conclude the energy in fixing its faults were too great an investment of time for them to put into it. Avoid at all costs.

### 1/5 — Has been unusable for years

*2024-08-07, version 3.2.5*

This used to be an invaluable tool, until everything stopped working - can’t even access my list of modules. There’s been a message for several years saying Turnitin are aware of the issue, but nothing is being done (I emailed them, but just got pointed back to the message that they’re working on it). Considering the huge number of low-grade reviews, I’m surprised that they’re not responding as a matter of urgency (although there’s something from 8 months ago saying they’ve done some form of bug fixes…)

### 1/5 — The app keeps crashing

*2024-05-30*

I would love if this worked consistently. For the last week or so, it is hit or miss if the app actually stays open so I can access assignments. Most of the time, I open it and select a class and the app just crashes and closes out. It’s so frustrating.

### 1/5 — Crashes constantly

*2024-01-09, version 3.2.5*

What a shame! This app used to be so useful but like others I really struggle with it now as it keeps crashing!

### 1/5 — Avoid using

*2023-11-29, version 3.2.5*

Thought this word be great as can dictaphone comments. But I’m basically stuck with all my marking on my iPad and it won’t upload. I even did a test run and that worked. And now it won’t.

Should have read comments on here first. Massive waste of a days marking.

### 1/5 — The app no longer works…

*2023-11-15, version 3.2.4*

This app once allowed me to check submissions and grade papers, but it no longer works. I hope Turnitin can rectify this problem because one of their most appealing features was the flexibility that they provided teachers.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — *moans*

*2021-09-02, version 3.1.8*

Hoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaa 5 star game, really recommend

### 5/5 — Saved

*2020-03-05, version 3.1.8*

This saved my marriage

### 5/5 — Maybe better than browser

*2019-04-24, version 3.1.8*

I almost didn’t try this app because of the poor reviews. But after trying it, I have not had any crashes, and found the design of the app to be far easier to use and more streamlined than the browser version.

### 5/5 — The most exotic app!!!

*2019-01-17, version 3.1.7*

You see im lost for words really. Where can i begin?! Not only has this app help me check my progress it has also helped master my wizardry spells at hogwarts.Snape is really REALLY proud of me, SO PROUD that he invites me his chambers to analy probe with his wand. Enough of that, back onto my review! I gave it 5 starts bc hermione told me to, otherwise i wouldn’t have got head tonight smh. Big loss imo. Big up turnitinuk and god bless. Cya😘

### 5/5 — Gae

*2018-05-14, version 3.1.4*

lol gae
Ol

### 5/5 — It works

*2016-08-24, version 2.0.0*

On iPad the website seems to not work very well. This app saves the day and worked flawlessly for submitting my paper. Love this and will use this throughout college.

### 5/5 — Yo

*2014-05-18, version 1.2.4*

Extremely helpful

### 5/5 — Fantastic Tool!

*2013-12-18, version 1.2.2*

If your school offers turnitin as a teacher tool, run, do not walk, to your IT guy and get yourself a login/password. Now. Then get this app for your iPad, because everything is soooo much easier using turnitin on the iPad than on the web.

If you're school does not have turnitin, I seriously recommend that you get your principal to spring for it, THEN get the app.

The last teacher tool that was this useful was Making the Grade. Worth every penny.

### 5/5 — Life-changing

*2013-12-14, version 1.2.2*

If I were to make a pie chart of my life, a sizable slice would be labelled "Grading". Being able to both forego (really, just lessen) the never-ending stacks of paper was a godsend, but the ability to score essays straight from my iPad is a brave new world.

The automatic e-rater markings would be great. Please add those to the app, Turnitin.

### 5/5 — Grading Lifesaver

*2013-10-08, version 1.1.3*

I've not had issues with the app crashing on me like others have mentioned. In fact, this app has been nothing but a grading lifesaver since I downloaded it at the beginning of this year. My junior-level English courses are now completely paperless. All outside-of-class work is to be submitted and graded on the website.

The Grademarking section of the app works wonderfully. I've easily been able to create and save my own grading suggestions/comments and I plug them quickly and efficiently into my students' papers. I would say I've easily cut my essay grading time in half. And that doesn't even account for not having to lug around file folders filled with papers of all kinds.

I love this app and would highly recommend it to any teacher who is looking to save themselves time on grading. It takes a few papers to get used to it, and another few to develop your Grademark entries, but it is well worth it in the end.
