They’ve recently put more features behind paywalls and seeijg emails older than a couple months now requires the premium feature. This makes the app unusable for me, and extra inconvenient as I have old emails I need to see that are now locked. It’s a little sad cause I liked them so much before, and now I’m currently switching my emails back to my old provider. Each time I have to Remove the app from my iPod and Reinstall again, then it works. Or, I have to shut down my iPod and turn it On again, then the Tuta mail works again. This is VERY FRUSTRATING, and I tried to find out and to solve the problem via Google search and I followed all instructions, didn’t work at all. I am wondering if other people have experienced the same problem or is it only on my phone? Your support and rating of our secure mail app mean so much! ### 3/5 — Lack of Log Put Feature is a major privacy concern *2026-07-18, version 354.260707.0* The email service is okay in theory but the inability to fully log out of my account every time I use it poses a major security risk if my device is compromised or someone else uses it. There should be an easy Log Out option so that an actual password (not just a passcode on my phone) is required each time. Even ending active sessions did not log me out and I was able to access the app and emails with just a passcode. I have now gotten rid of all my Gmail account accounts and I’m using Tuta exclusively. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Can’t access *2026-08-24, version 357.260818.1* Got my IP blocked because they thought I read a clock wrong. ### 1/5 — Recovery code *2026-08-22, version 357.260818.1* Recently opened an account wrote down my password wrong tried to reset with my recovery code that I copied and saved and I’m being told wrong recovery code. This has been a waste of time and wouldn’t recommend because of the hassle. ### 1/5 — Tuta mail *2026-08-18, version 356.260806.1* Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this email service at all. I opened a new account and while checking my email in the app, the application suddenly closed. I tried to log in again and it started showing a notification that my credentials were invalid, even though I had already logged in with those same credentials before. Then I tried to recover my account using the coordinate system provided when opening the account, and I got the same notification saying my credentials were invalid. I have no access either through the app or the website. I wrote an email to technical support and did not receive any response. In other words, I lost my account and nobody from the company contacted me to help. Please consider my experience if you are thinking of storing sensitive information in this email service, because you might lose access and end up facing the same situation I did. ### 1/5 — Poor spam filtering *2026-08-07, version 355.260720.0* After 11 months of marking one company spam, I’m still getting junk mail from them. I have unsubscribed and said I don’t want mail from this company and I’m still getting it. I need a new Mail provider but basic spam filtering should be a known requirement. ### 1/5 — Fooling people in the name of privacy *2026-08-07, version 355.260720.0* I was fooled into buying its subscription (and then canceling later) because this company does nothing but to create hype about “DeGoogling” movement and show off how bad American companies are. However, in reality, it’s even worse than they keep attacking all the time. The company will simply suspend you receiving and sending email if you don’t pay a subscription even if it’s a free account offered by them. Shame on you, Tuta. I doubt a tiny company like this could survive even a few years with these unethical practices. ### 1/5 — Wiped my phone contacts. *2026-07-04, version 353.260624.0* I wanted to like Tuta as an option to offer private email, but the app somehow wiped all my phone contacts from the native apple contacts app when I synced it. There was a warning about “sync issues” with iCloud, but no clear explainer, and no warning saying *all your phone contacts might be REMOVED entirely*. Thankfully, I was able to reimport them from Tuta, albeit with all contact photos gone and a few errors. And I still have iCloud backups, but this should not even be possible. I am young and more technologically savvy than most of my peers in white collar work, if I can make this mistake, so can 90–95% of users, Tuta needs to fix this. ### 1/5 — Human verification *2026-06-30, version 353.260624.0* I DONT KNOW HOW TO READ A CLOCK HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SIGN UP IF I CANT READ A CLOCK. ### 1/5 — Really nice, but left feeling jilted. *2026-06-24, version 351.260612.0* I was shopping for a more private email service and stumbled on Tuta. I decided to test it out with a month on their Revolutionary plan. It seemed pretty good and satisfied my requirements. However while in this trial month there was an offer for 50% off an annual plan. I tried to switch over to the annual plan but was not able to get the advertised price. In the end I just ended cancelling altogether and will likely go with Proton. I will keep the free account though. And would still consider Tuta in the future. Regarding the developer response: I would like to add that my review was posted within 10 days of first creating an account with Tuta. I would argue I’m a very new customer. I was on a monthly plan as a trial and attempted to switch to the annual plan that was on sale but was blocked. The response has soured me on this service even more. Especially when Proton has helped me accomplish the exact same thing (cancel my monthly to switch to an annual plan on sale). I don’t recommend this service. ### 1/5 — 4.7 Stars!? *2026-06-23, version 351.260612.0* How does this app receives 4.7 stars? Family members changing their nickname and keep writing reviews? One of the WORST email clients out there. Inboxes between devices constantly fail to sync so you end up having 32 emails on one device and only 4 on the other. You should not be allowed to call this an "email client." This is more like an "experiment." ### 1/5 — AMERICANS DO NOT BUY *2026-06-22, version 351.260612.0* Common issue with IP address causing users not to be able to connect to their account. I bought the “Legend” subscription and when i reached out to access my account they did not respond to me for weeks. Reached out multiple times and got an email address. They told me to use an in app feature that i can’t access. Thankfully i figured out how to unsubscribe by reinstalling and uninstalling which prompted me to unsubscribe through apple, not even Tuta. Horrible customer service and if you disagree with their fan base on Reddit they let people bully you. Especially if you’re American. Trying to DeGoogle but now i have to find another email printer. Disappointed. Leider kann man bei Fragen keinen wahren Ansprechpartner bekommen, wenn man nicht dafür bezahlt hat und auch dann ist es leider nicht so ganz einfach. Ich bin 60 Jahre jung und der Ansprechpartner meist jünger.
