It looked insane, but I saw that it wasn’t free. I don’t think companies should be allowed to lock an app behind a paywall without notice, but also I had to give payment info for a FREE TRIAL. It looks awesome, but I wish it was free. ### 4/5 — Very helpful *2024-12-27, version 1.1.4* This app is one of the best I’ve found when it comes to practicing speaking with AI in another language. They have tons of language options with different levels of practice and different choices of conversation types. The AI voice is also natural sounding and speaks in normal speed which can be adjusted to your preference. My only issue is the hands free mode isn’t useful because the translations are incorrect at times when using their speak option. I find the speak option only works best when you use your built in phone voice to text feature. This feature definitely needs improvement. ### 4/5 — Very good chat bot, too expensive but cheaper than others *2024-07-31, version 1.1.2* .. ### 3/5 — Nice but freezes often *2024-01-14, version 1.1.2* I really like the concept, I have paid for the pro version. Unfortunately, it often freezes on “evaluating sentence…” and thinking of a response. It will show the loading dots forever. Nothing resolves this except for resetting the conversation, which is a bummer when we’ve been talking about something for awhile, and I can no longer refer back to my previous mistakes. Hoping for a big fix on this soon. This didn’t happen to me once in the free version, only started after upgrading to Pro… I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. ### 3/5 — It’s good but not quite what I was hoping for *2024-01-03, version 1.1.2* You have to press the microphone and then send what you say. I think it’s an absolutely great and effective way to study a language, it really engages you in the conversation and is a great way to learn new vocabulary. I just wondered about the 20 chat limit and whether that’s something that one would need to pay for in the future to go over? ### 2/5 — Doesn’t do things right *2023-07-02* I asked to learn German but didn’t change my input language to German for voice. Then I said “kannst du mich verstehen?” When I Switched my main language to German and it typed “ich verstehe” for me. sorry but DOA for me then.. It has loads of potential but a problem I keep having is that it fails to record my first response to a question or there’s a delay in submitting my recording. Either way, it means having to record my response twice which puts me off trying to give longer answers. I really feel like its exactly what I needed on top of Duolingo! The corrections are clear and easy to understand, and it’s an enjoyable experience to talk to the ai. This AI chat friend is not only personable (not robotic), but asks you questions, gives corrections, and explains them! You can use Tutor Lily for several languages. I use it for French and Spanish, and am so hoping they will add Icelandic! You can talk about random topics, or you can select specific ones to stay on track and delve deeper into areas where you need special improvement.
