Whether a written summary is useful depends on the lesson and the student, and tutors should be able to decide when one is necessary. The minimum word-count requirement makes the feature even more frustrating. A meaningful summary may be very brief, and tutors should not be forced to add unnecessary filler simply to reach an arbitrary minimum. The feature is also buggy in the iPad app. While I am typing in the lesson-summary field, I cannot see the text I am entering. The text only becomes visible after I tap into the field again. Please make lesson summaries optional, remove the minimum word requirement, and fix this iPad text-entry problem. ### 2/5 — Unreliable *2026-04-10, version 4.7.0* I’ve been using Wyzant for quite a few years, and it just feels like they never update their mobile software. Messages rarely go through on both the app and desktop versions, notifications are unreliable, and I’m constantly being logged out. This isn’t a banking app—it’s a messaging app. Leave me logged in! I’d be less salty if wyzant didn’t take such a high commission. ### 2/5 — Super buggy and glitchy *2026-02-21, version 4.6.11* Some of bugs and glitches have existed many years and never get a fix. ### 3/5 — Will the messaging ever work? *2025-10-24, version 4.6.9* I’ve been a tutor in Wyzant for 6 years, and I think the service itself and the tutoring platform is solid. My review is just about the app. Why doesn’t the messaging work properly? Messages will appear in my email notifications but will not appear in the app. I’ll have to search the client by name to see the message, and it still will not show up as new. I have used newer iPhones (currently the 16) and I can only reliably answer client messages through my PC. I’ve actually lost business because I couldn’t get to a PC to answer a query. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Ugh. Once I get the message, though, the app is fine for scheduling and managing appointments. Ugh. ### 3/5 — Love tutoring with wyzant but app is broken *2024-11-02, version 4.5.6* I have been tutoring on wyzant for about 4 years now and it has been the best work experience I have ever had. You get to set your own hours, their cut is a fraction of other tutoring sites out there, and there are so many interesting students and subjects you will encounter. Unfortunately the app has been completely broken for me for about 6 months now. Nothing whatsoever shows up when I open the app and it just gives me an error message. However, recently my messages and dashboard do not load properly, so I have to log in through Safari. The loading wheel just keeps spinning. Overall, good stuff, just wish there weren’t intermittent bugs. But hey, for being free to use with no monthly fee or commitment, it’s probably the best app out there. ### 2/5 — Useable But Buggy *2024-01-25, version 4.5.2* This app is worth having, but they really ought to fix the bugs. On my iPad I often have to kick it out of memory to get the notifications to be up-to-date. When adding a new lesson to my iPad calendar, the “Done” button is outside the top of the dialog. ### 2/5 — Save password *2023-12-17, version 4.5.2* I’m not sure why the app doesn’t save your password or have FaceID but it is pretty annoying to have to type in the long password each time I open the app. ### 3/5 — After two months on the platform… *2023-11-12, version 4.5.2* I’m new to Wyzant. I’ve tutoring here about 2 months, and these are my first impressions: it’s an extremely competitive place to find students, and you will definitely have to put in a lot of work upfront to get going. That being said, I did find some ongoing students within a month. As with traditional tutoring, you’ll have to weed out the people who want to low-ball you and have expectations way above what they are paying for services. I give the video platform itself a 2. It gets the job done but it’s very basic. I’ve had complaints from parents that they’d like to be able to see what I’m teaching the students on the recording, but they can’t because I can’t upload my work to the platform (since I use interactive platforms, instead of just having something on the whiteboard that they provide) and the video of me screen sharing is too small for them to see anything. I’m not sure how the platform looks on their end- it would be nice for this to be a feature- a student view for the tutor. Now for the app itself-I hardly ever use it. I just use the browser even from my phone. The biggest reason I do that is because, oddly enough, the app doesn’t give you the option to use your saved message templates to apply for jobs, which is counterintuitive. The app, specifically, should have that feature, as apps are created to be more user friendly. I do like the built in review options that the students have. That makes it much more likely for me to request a review instead of always having to ask myself. There seems to be a slight disconnect between the app and the browser, where the app won’t update for a while after something has occurred, such as a message being read. In other words, if I read a message through the browser, the app will continue to notify me that I have an unread message even though i already read it. I also can’t see how many applications I’ve sent from the app, only the browser. I’ll continue to use Wyzant. I do think it’s a viable platform with potential, but as mentioned, similar to traditional tutoring, you’ll have to put in a lot of upfront work to get movement. ### 4/5 — App -too inconsistent *2023-10-09, version 4.5.2* Although this app has great potential, there are many aspects that make it time consuming. The student list doesn't coordinate with a tutors current list, making time consuming to search through the list. Also, if you are entering a lesson during the lesson, it frequently times out and you have to re-enter your notes. This issues still haven’t been addressed Finally when using the write board previously when you erased something it was erased from both ends, currently both myself and the student have to erase each board for it to clear, thus time consuming and confusing for the younger students. ### 1/5 — Broken app right now *2023-09-19, version 4.5.2* Please fix the app friends, it hasn’t loaded anything since there was maintenance on the website :( ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Rejected by 18a and no explanation *2026-02-07, version 4.6.10* I guess no need for explanation, you can understand from the title. Btw 18a is just “didn’t met vetting requirements”. I am pursuing a grad program in biochemistry and molecular bio. So I don’t think I am not qualified to teach chemistry or biology. The hours and pay are completely up to me and Wyzant platform is quite intuitive. They also don’t fret if the student and I decide to have use Zoom instead of Wyzants video platform, although the Wyzant platform has some pros and cons but overall very solid too.
