### 2/5 — Please update this to iPad

*2026-08-08*

on iPad the guest button is completely inaccessible. The font is so small on iPhone, please make the font customizable. Now you can’t use online tvtropes with adblockers on. Thanks a lot. When you search for something pass the first search, it always zooms in max for some reason. Now the pages turn complete white when I exit and return to the app. Really big bugs you haven’t touched yet.

### 4/5 — Mechanical Issues

*2026-05-23*

While it is mostly good, the app has the problem of immediately undoing your editing with the back button, which is a nuisance. There are also some problems with editing where it doesn’t sync up to the site.

### 4/5 — Love the site, app needs work

*2026-02-03*

The app is great because it hosts all of the content of the site however, all of said content is a little harder to navigate paired with a buggier ui. Would love to see this app get the care that it needs, great otherwise.

### 3/5 — Needs Work

*2026-02-01*

I like it. It’s easy to use, but could use some fine tuning here and there. One bug that’s been bothering me is how the app annoyingly zooms in on the search bar whenever I search more than one term. I’d rly appreciate if you were to fix that.

### 4/5 — Update the app or update the articles

*2026-01-06*

It’s nice to have this app since my mobile browsers complain about blocking ads. But I want the articles to be updated over time.

### 3/5 — It works, I guess?

*2025-11-21*

It's a mostly functional app wrapping a web view, but I appreciate the effort and attempt at having a discreet app on my phone.

### 2/5 — Same problem with tabs, and then pinned and favorite. Please update this to iPad

*2025-10-29*

I have the same problem of too many tabs. Then I tried pinning or favoriting the tabs and made things worse. It changed the tab to a default tab and I have no clue where my pinned and favorited pages are now.
A month later and the problem hasn’t been fixed yet. And on iPad the guest button is completely inaccessible. Now you can’t use online tvtropes with adblockers on. Thanks a lot.

### 2/5 — I love it! But using it is so much work

*2025-08-27, version 4.5*

Emotional rant and complaints: (see bottom for blunter problems and solutions)

The problem is, when i want to keep a trope to remember or look back onto, i only have the choice to like. The problem is i can not have any sections or categories yo put the trope in. It would be great if i could even put the one trope in multiple sections. The next issue is-since there's no catagories, i can't have a clear view of the vibes. I'll have one mission or idea, and scavenge the site for anything that related or can grow on that idea. But once im done with that mission... damn, deleting those liked tropes to ho to the next hyperfixation is exhausting. Even if its two pages of tropes, i have to delete each trope one by one. Click, click click slide click click click click swipe- oh i accidentally clicked on the trope that i already removed. Click. Click. And four more clicks.

To put it bluntly, without the first draft personal emotional response:
1) i would love to see an option to add tropes to little files, like a trope, have an option to put it in a personal playlist of sorts.

2) Having the ability to add liked tropes to more than one said "playlist."

3 Having the ability to multi-select liked tropes to delete them, without having to click onto its profile individually to delete.

### 4/5 — Love the new app!

*2025-07-22, version 4.4*

I do have a suggestion however: when it comes to the story generator and you’re selecting tropes, there should be an option to randomize each section individually, because I’m sick of just scrolling or searching for something if I’m more in the mood for picking random. It would be more interesting…

### 4/5 — Probably not that life ruining

*2025-06-06*

only lost a few relationships from it, only kinda ruined my life, if it fully did i would rate 5 stars

### 4/5 — Great: Needs One More Thing, Though

*2025-05-30*

I love this app. It’s functional and great to use. The only thing that it needs, though, is a feature that will make the app be the same color as the phone. For example, if my phone is dark, then the app should be dark. It’s still a great app, though.

**Developer response:** UPDATE: we just added this feature in v4. If you update your app you should find an option in the display settings to set Night Vision to "auto". This will use your phone settings to automatically enable when the rest of your phone switches to dark mode and then automatically disable when your phone is back in light mode.

### 3/5 — Not letting see

*2025-05-13*

I was look at at sections for characters but doesn’t let me see anything and I click it multiple times and reload it but it doesn’t work hope you can fix it soon

**Developer response:** It should be fixed now. We just released v3 of the app. Can you update and check again?

### 3/5 — Good but definitely needs work

*2025-04-16*

So, first off, the app doesn’t exactly work on IPad for some reason. It functions, but for some reason the app’s always in portrait orientation. When you switch to landscape, the app switches accordingly, but remains in a portrait layout. Secondly, This app is pretty much everything that the browser version does, but it seems less tailored to editing articles and more to just reading the wiki. I dunno if I appreciate that or not.

As someone who has way too many story ideas in my head and not enough writing skills to make something with them, I think the AI story generator is a very good and appropriate function. But I ended up wasting my uses on experimenting with it. Just… as long as none of you implement an AI image/art generator. I might legit delete my TVtropes account if that happens.

### 4/5 — Unstable but fun

*2025-04-14, version 2.0*

Editing can take far longer than I would like as hitting enter shifts me down the entire page. App is also unusable on tablets. Despite this, it is a far smoother experience than the website.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — No ipad port

*2026-01-27, version 4.5*

No ipad port

### 1/5 — No one is paying for tvtropes

*2025-10-24, version 4.5*

A subscription model, get out of here

### 1/5 — Latest Update Breaks VoiceOver Support

*2025-07-12*

I've loved this app since it came out, but am deeply disappointed in the most recent update. I'm blind and use the VoiceOver screenreader on my iPhone. After updating to Version 4.0 yesterday, I opened the app to find it completely un-navigable. None of the buttons were labeled. None of the tropes and categories that pop up when you open the app were clickable. When I tried searching, I was instead taken to a random trope page. I'll be contacting the developer about this.

**Developer response:** I’m sorry to hear that. We looked through our setup and couldn’t figure out how voice over support was working before v4.0 as we didn’t have labels and such added. But we added to our list for v5.0 to support it properly.

### 1/5 — Suggestion: make UI better with less clutter.

*2025-06-16, version 3.5*

In my old review, I said that I did not like the UI. However, I never explained why I hated it so much. The reason why is because by attempting to simplify the UI, they somehow made it more complicated than it started. My suggestion is to remove everything that isn’t necessary to the TV Tropes experience (mainly features that aren’t relevant to the website. Now, it’s not to say there shouldn’t be ANY deviation from the website, but a lot of the original content is just unnecessary.

*FILLER BELOW*

That was a long review, wasn’t it? much longer than my previous reviews, anyway.

### 1/5 — App made for the sake of having an app

*2025-04-05*

There is nothing that this app would do better than a website open in Mobile Safari. In fact, there are things it does worse — in a browser you can easily open several links if you want to read several articles; in the app, you can't.

**Developer response:** We just released v3.0 of the app. It has tabbed browsing and many other new features to try and improve the experience. Give it a shot and let us know if worth a better rating.

### 1/5 — Had for fifteen seconds

*2025-04-01*

The instant you required a login account I simply deleted and left one star.

### 1/5 — No dark mode

*2025-03-25, version 1.0*

It gives an option, but it doesn’t show on the main pages

### 1/5 — Just use the mobile browser

*2025-03-24*

I got excited when I heard that there was a TV Tropes app, but my smile faded pretty quickly when I actually tried to use it.

1: You NEED an account to use it. Why? You don’t need an account to browse the website, so why do you need one here?

2: I tried making an account, but it said that I was using a VPN, even though I wasn’t?? So I couldn’t even use the app.

3: From what I’ve heard, it has some kind of AI story generator. Please, for the love of god, stop forcing AI into everything. I just wanna read about all the tropes in my favorite media, so why is the AI story generator even there??

Bad app. You’re better off using the mobile browser instead.

**Developer response:** The majority of the traffic on our website is anonymous readers so we focus a lot on that. For the app, we are focused primarily on account features though which is why we require the login. We may add anonymous browsing to the app in the future though. To this point everything was setup for an account.

We are in a constant battle with users creating duplicate accounts daily to try and deface the wiki which is why we don't allow VPNs. I understand you said you aren't using one. Please try again with the v2.0 update which we just launched. If it still doesn't work if you reach out to thestaff@tvtropes.org with what username you tried we can help figure it out. And we did remove the tool using AI from being a default feature so you'd have to seek it out now.

### 1/5 — But why ai though?

*2025-03-23, version 1.0*

Would’ve used this if the shoehorned ai feature wasn’t thrown in your face at every opportunity. Absolutely unnecessary feature, it only makes the app look all the more unprofessional and sloppy.

### 1/5 — Boo AI

*2025-03-21, version 1.0*

I was so excited to use this and have a better experience of using TV Tropes on mobile. It’s a little bit worse than using the mobile web browser version, but I could chalk that up to growing pains. What I cannot abide is adding the AI element. What does this add? I will be uninstalling.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Thumbs up

*2026-01-16, version 4.5*

It’s so nice to have a dedicated TVTropes app.

So fire

### 5/5 — You’ll get lost on this, the good way!

*2025-07-16*

This app is incredibly good for mobile browsing of the site, easy to navigate and understand. Their willingness to take feedback and suggestions to make it even better is wonderful, and you’ll easily lose time reading and researching your favorite media, fan works, and tropes. Just like the site already does!

**Developer response:** Thank you for the great review! We’ll keep monitoring our forum for additional feedback to keep improving.

### 5/5 — Perfect for trivia nerds!

*2025-07-14*

If you're a nerd like me that loves deep diving into trivia and tropes on all your favorite media, then you need this app. It satisfies the need for knowledge.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the 5 stars! I’m glad you like it

### 5/5 — Great app

*2025-05-25*

I previously left a pretty scathing review that I now regret. The recent updates have fixed all of my previous issues that I had with the app. This app is great. Way more convenient than using the website on the mobile browser. I’m sure future updates will continue to make the app even better. Keep up the good work!

**Developer response:** Thank you for updating your review! And that is great to hear you noticed all the progress we've been making. I know it was a rough start. We will continue listening to the feedback and improving everything we can.

### 5/5 — Thank you!

*2025-05-03*

I love TVTropes and the app makes scrolling through articles for hours even easier. Great update recently made lots of improvements! I’d love a “Save for Later” list type of feature.

**Developer response:** Thank you for the 5 stars! We just released v3 of the app with more features. You can now hold click on any link to open in a new tab so you can save for later. I hope that helps.
