### 2/5 — Workable but highly flawed

Once snippets have been created on another device, and if the app actually communicates with iCloud properly, the app is usable. But creating snippets on iPhone is completely impossible, which makes any attempt to use the app in a quick and reactive way a lost cause. The moment you try to create or edit a snippet it’s like the app interface expands to be 25% larger than the iPhone screen area, meaning you can no longer see, select, add, or edit text. I’d say that the only platform it really works well on is macOS, but adding snippets there is an exercise in metronome-regular crashes and restarts. One has to wonder if the app developers are testing this app at all, or just tossing it out to us with barely a look back.

**Developer response:** Hello Gwynn, we're really sorry that you've had such an uneven experience creating and syncing snippets. We do test our apps as far as we can before release, using a combination of simulators and test hardware. However, as there are only two of us and we can't test for every possible setup, sometimes glitches can slip through. We act on these as soon as they are reported to us. Due to the review process, when new devices are released with very little notice it can take us a little while to get updates in to the store to accommodate unexpected changes such as different screen sizes or other feature tweaks. The good news is we are currently hard at work on a major overhaul of our flagship Mac app that ought to finally address the stability issues that can affect the legacy version Apple currently sells on the Mac App Store. In our testing so far it works well in tandem with the TypeIt4Me Touch notepad app. If you'd like to get early access to test the beta and help us identify interoperability issues, please do get in touch with us directly via our website. Es steht auf unserer Liste der Dinge, die hinzugefügt werden müssen, aber da wir nur zu zweit sind, um mehrere Apps zu entwickeln und zu unterstützen, kann es manchmal lange dauern, bis wir alle Wünsche unserer Kunden erfüllen. フリック入力キーボードの対応（日本語キーボードでスニペットが使える）

すでに良いアプリですが、この２つの機能が追加されれば、万人におすすめできるようになります。

As a Japanese user, I feel it would be perfect if two points could be improved.

Ability to do cursor inserts (enable %| commands)
Support for flick input keyboard (snippets can be used with Japanese flick keyboard )

It is already a good app, but if these two features are added, I will be able to recommend it to everyone.

Having been a fan of the MacOS version since it first came out I like the keyboard's approach to predicting my list of shortcuts synched from my Mac, but I would have preferred go see my shortcuts appear on a separate line as I really miss the usual IOS word predictions which don't seem to come up the same way.
I also miss being able to swipe down on the keys to get the numbers without having too switch to the number layout.
If those two issues could be resolved, I'd give it 5 stars.

Snippets （出力したい文字列）を呼び出すための Abbreviation に日本語文字列を設定するとクラッシュするようです。Abbreviation は半角英数にする必要があります（出力したい Snippets に日本語文字列を設定するのは問題ありません）。（問題がある場合はiPhoneの「設定」のiCloud で TypeIt4Me をオフにしたうえで再インストールするのがよいでしょう。ただiCloud 上のデータベースを修正したい場合はデスクトップ版のアプリが必要です。）

この部分にハマらなければ非常に優秀なアプリです。短縮形に日本語をどうしても使いたい場合は現時点では使えないと思われます。

### 2/5 — Doesn’t behave well with external keyboards

When used with third-party apps, TypeIt4Me doesn’t seem to understand I might be using an external (Smart) keyboard. So much so that the on-screen TypeIt4Me keyboard is displayed at the same time as I’m typing on my Smart keyboard. And text replacement doesn’t work when I’m typing on my Smart keyboard. This needs fixing.

Other than that major issue, looks like it could be a useful app.

**Developer response:** Hello, we’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the keyboard add-on. As noted in the app description, text expansion while typing on a connected hardware keyboard is only possible when typing in the TypeIt4Me Touch notepad app itself. For security reasons, Apple has developed its iOS platform in such a way that third party apps like ours are only permitted to expand your abbreviations inside other apps when you bring up and type directly on the on-screen keyboard extension. TypeIt4Me Touch cannot expand your abbreviations while you’re using a different app and typing on a hardware keyboard accessory. This restriction is built in to the iOS operating system, so it applies to all third party keyboards like ours and can’t be circumvented. That said, it does sound like the on-screen keyboard extension may be behaving differently on your device than it does in our own tests. Normally it should not stay up when a hardware keyboard accessory is connected and activated. If you’d be willing to contact us directly at our support address with further details, please do get in touch. We’d like the opportunity to troubleshoot this with you and help resolve the issue.

### 2/5 — Not as seamless as on the Mac

On the Mac, I can type dta and have it replace the text with 20171223. With this app, I have to go to a different keyboard and then type dta, and then try to go back to the regular keyboard. 

Replacing text with current date and or time is the only thing not available through iOS>Settings>Keyboard>Text Replacement. Which I find is something I don’t do on iOS since there are no files to change the name on.

Nice addition to my iPad, I have used this app for years on my iMac and now I can enjoy using it to aid and speed up my work on my iPad. Simple to use and link with my IMac using iCloud. It would be nice not to have to change keyboards!

I can't speak to the usefulness of the custom keyboard since I do not use it. Within the app you may use any keyboard that you like and this is what I do. It is great for entering computer code. Thank you very much!

### 5/5 — Incomplete Bluetooth Keyboard Support (iOS limitation)

This app seemed to work just fine in my tests. Unfortunately, in my case it isn't capable of doing what I was hoping it would do.

I use a bluetooth keyboard for all my typing on the iPad, so that is the only method I tried out. The snippets worked as expected and were triggered great within the application.

Unfortunately, the snippets cannot be triggered by typing the keywords on a bluetooth keyboard outside of the TypeIt4Me application. This is apparently a limitation in how iOS handles keyboard extensions as of the time of this review, so it is beyond the developer's control. So you would have to use the onscreen keyboard to trigger the snippets. 

In my case, I needed the snippets to use with my programming text editor, which has several other features I use. So working in the TypeIt4Me application is not really an option.

So I will be returning this application. However, I wanted to leave a 5 star review for the quick and detailed customer service I received.

### 2/5 — Deep Disappointment

I haven't been this disappointed in an app in a long time. It's about half finished, at best.  I am using it on a 12.9" iPad Pro, and the keyboard is a mess in landscape mode. The keyboard stays the same size as it is in portrait, but over on the side.  Many keys available in the normal keyboard, including the numbers, aren't there. the keyboard layout for the iPad Pro is pretty nice, but all you get are the basic letters with this program.  And the keys don't seem to work as well - I have to type at about half speed to type correctly. Because this is essentially a keyboard program, there's just no excuse. It's basically unusable, or at the most, a steep step down from the normal iPad keyboard.

Also, auto correct doesn't seem to work, although there is a radio button for this in the settings menu. In short, I had to turn it off just to write this review. Maybe future iterations will be better.

A year after notifying the development team that snippets weren't syncing across devices, and still nothing fixed. In fact, I now can't edit snippets on iOS. I close the app after editing, then reopen, and my edit has reverted back to previous state. I can only edit on the Mac now.

**Developer response:** Hello. We released an update a few months ago with revisions to the syncing code that we had hoped might resolve things for you. We are truly sorry to learn it didn't fix the issue affecting your device. We tried unsuccessfully to reproduce the same behaviour in our testing here; the fact that it doesn't happen in a repeatable way we can observe makes it difficult to identify and address the cause of the problem. We had to make changes based on our best guess of what might be going wrong. If it were happening consistently to others, too, that might give us more clues to go on and open up further avenues of investigation. Unfortunately, it appears to be unique to your setup (or if others have experienced the same thing, they just haven't reported it). If you like, we could arrange for a screen sharing session to troubleshoot with you in real time. Alternatively, we could send you a TestFlight invitation so you can have early access to TypeIt4Me 7.0 (currently in beta) on your Mac to see if that is also affected by your sync issue. Please get in touch again if you'd like us to have another crack at solving this problem for you.

I can’t get it to work on the iPad at all.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but nothing works.

I choose the type it for me keyboard using the globe key as usual.

Then type, in apple mail, nothing in any app nothing including the notes section in TypeIt4Me 

I’m quite computer literate so can’t imagine what my sister would do.

It could be that you have not granted full access for the keyboard extension, or it could be that the sets containing your snippets are not enabled. You need to make sure the switch next to a set's name is toggled on if you want the snippets in that set to expand. ob es an IOS10 liegt oder an der Software an sich kann ich leider nicht sagen, weil ich sie leider erst gekauft habe, als IOS10 schon installiert war. Die App ist einfach nur schlecht. Die integrierte Tastatur ist unglaublich hässlich und wichtige Tasten fehlen. Aktuell funktionieren die Snippets bei mir nur in der eigenen App selbst und auch nur wenn die eigene Tastatur aktiviert ist. Somit ist diese App absolut unbrauchbar. Eine Frechheit für so etwas Geld zu verlangen - einfach unglaublich. :-((

I was so excited about this app, what would I do with all my spare time, not having to type my most common full sentences. Unfortunately, the app doesn't work well in my workflow at all. In order for your shortcuts to work, you have to be in the apps keyboard. But the keyboar does not match the ios keyboard and it is extremely slow to respond. I will type this sentence twice, once in my regular keyboard and once in the typeit4me keyboard.  il epet setactwoce, onjnte regua kyboardandnce in h yoeit 4 ekyboard.
That's garbled mess is me trying to type normally in the type it 4 me keyboard. If I want it to come out decently, it would take me at least 3 times longer to type. 
Also, the keyboard often covers the words I am typing so I can't even see the result in real time. 

To make matters worse, to get out of the keyboard, you don't just press the change keyboard button, you have to scroll up to the next keyboard option. I change keyboards all the time. I have an English, Spanish, and emoji keyboard. Now with this keyboard, when I land on it, I have to take an extra step to get out. 

I was excited about what this app could do for my workflow, but instead it is completely destroying my workflow. I can't believe I paid $5 for it. This is likely to inform what I will do after my free trial for the software on my MacBook is up. I am uninstalling until I hear that this has been completely revamped and actually works.

App hasn't been updated since July 2015. Love this app on my Mac, but can't use it on my iPad Pro. Hopefully there will be an update soon. Until then, this is useless on iPad Pro.

Saves a lot of time by allowing you to use keyboard shortcuts for frequently typed text! Snippets sync via iCloud across iPhone, iPad and Mac. 

It’s a little frustrating to have to invoke a special keyboard in order to access the snippets, but that’s a limitation set by Apple not the developer.

Love the app and totally understand its shortcomings due to iOS, it’s a shame you have to use a third party keyboard to use the snippets but until Apple sort this nothing better can be done in my opinion than the current implementation the developers have done.

I did have some small issues with the app but it’s fantastic to see the app developers take this on board and implement them in just a few months!

To do this, either tap the switch next to a set's name or swipe right across it to toggle it on and off. As for swiping to go back, this was already supported as it is a standard iOS feature wherever a screen features a back button. We're not sure why it's not working on your device but we'll investigate further in case there's a bug we need to fix.

I use this app multiple times a day, so I thought I would give it a shout out. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best solution I have found on the Mac and iOS for text expansion. Why is it not perfect? It’s been a little bit buggy over the years, but most of that has been worked out. That’s why I’m giving it five stars and I hope the developer continues to work on it! You should give it a try.

I had been thinking of buying this for some time, but as it had not been updated for quite a while I was worried the developer may have abandoned it. It has now been updated, so I decided to go for it. Always a worry if there is no trial version. I am so pleased I did. Works incredibly well. Fast accurate predictions and syncs immediately and reliably via iCloud. Plus it offers multi line expansions in any app using the dedicated keyboard. Highly recommended!
