### 2/5 — frustrating

*2026-09-02, version 4.4.5*

I'm trying to give this keyboard an honest chance...but it's got to be one of the most frustrating keyboards I've used in quite a while
the auto correct works maybe 40-60% of the time
and for some reason the app will change words that are correct to some gibberish.. example I'll type maximum but it'll switch it to maxkljm
extremely frustrating

### 2/5 — Slow responsiveness and needs larger keys

*2026-08-16, version 4.4.5*

The typing is slow and the keys in the standard layout need to be larger

### 2/5 — Paywall garbage

*2026-07-24, version 4.4.5*

every decent feature that you might want to use to customize your typing experience is locked behind a paywall. So even though I have limited time with the app, I’m already giving up on it.

### 2/5 — Hits and misses

*2026-07-17, version 4.4.5*

I appreciate the larger keys. The key keyboard takes a little getting used to it, but it’s pretty intuitive. I like the swipe to delete. There are a lot of things to love.

A big problem, though, is it doesn’t remember any of my hashtags words and I can’t attach gifs

That becomes a real problem when my feed is full of #words and I have to keep typing them in over and over.

Kinda defeats the purpose.

Then I have to leave the app to go submit a GIF

I’m not giving up on it just yet, but those are two big barriers for me

### 2/5 — Meh

*2026-06-18*

I used Swiftkey for a long time and now because they were bought by Microsoft I dropped them for Typewise. I thought it would do a similar job with more privacy, but absolutely not. Predictive word is bad, correction are weak, both type of keyboard are hard to use and unintuitive. Even the regular one is too tight and hard to use as it types the wrong letters all the time. There is potential, but at the moment I would not recommend it at all.

**Developer response:** Thank you for giving Typewise a try and for sharing such detailed feedback.
We understand that switching from a keyboard you've used for years comes with high expectations.
We'll take your comments into consideration. We appreciate you acknowledging the potential of the product, even if it isn't the right fit for you at the moment.

### 4/5 — Suggestion.

*2026-05-25, version 4.4.5*

If the first 3 letters in a word are capitalized, offer the entire word capitalized.

### 2/5 — Every standard keyboard feature paywalled behind a subscription.

*2026-05-20, version 4.4.5*

Including word suggestions like "it's"
Still better than ios pathetic keyboard.

### 2/5 — Разочарование

*2026-05-12, version 4.4.5*

Самая красивая и удобная клавиатура, которую я видел. Я даже был готов заплатить $25 за полный доступ, НО тут нет русского! Даже вьетнамский есть, а одного из самых распространенных языков нет.

### 2/5 — I’m typing worse on a cool looking keyboard

*2026-05-07, version 4.4.5*

I only tried the free trial so idk if the logic is fixed when you do a subscription, but the autocorrect is horrible.

I’s will always be undercapitalized, contractions don’t work and it autocorrects words terribly. It will even suggest an autocorrect and just go back to the wrong word, and a giant window will pop up, stoping your work to tell you how to click the top row like you’ve never had that before.

I love the mission for not selling my privacy but the product at the end of the day is still worse than free.

### 2/5 — Subscription for a keyboard

*2026-05-05, version 4.4.5*

Come on, I am okey on buy the app and have access to all benefits, but a subscription just for a keyboard is insane. $1.99 per month just for a peace of software running on my own phone on my own electricity. Good keyboard but developers wants to retire on a virtual keyboard

### 2/5 — Needs Slide-typing

*2026-03-29, version 4.4.5*

Needs Slide-typing. Couldn’t use it otherwise.

### 3/5 — No swipe to text

*2026-03-14, version 4.4.5*

No swipe to text kills it

### 2/5 — Love the privacy features, hate almost everything else

*2026-03-11, version 4.4.5*

No swipe texting. Autocorrect is unbelievably bad, even with the premium option. Using this app to text is SLOW, not because of the hexagon layout but because I have to go back and correct the autocorrect multiple times. Sometimes it'll change the same word incorrectly several times, which is quite irritating.

I like the swipe-backspace option, the color options, and the hex keyboard itself. I got this app because I was purging my devices of google apps and I wanted a keyboard that didn't keep key logs, and I will likely keep it until something easier to use comes along with the same privacy features. I won't miss it, unless the autocorrect gets fixed at least. Why does it not have swipe to text?

Edit Mar 2026:

I give up. This keyboard is so incredibly annoying to use. The autocorrect will change things in wildly incorrect fashion - type a word that might end in s? Typewise will add that for you whether you want it or not. Then, after you stop typing to go back and delete the s, *it will put it back* and make you do it twice.

Or, if you have a word ending in y, like "seriously" ? Typewise will change that to "serious y" EVERY TIME. And then do the same annoying thing mentioned previously and try to correct it twice.

Another incredibly annoying thing - if you attempt to insert a word, it will often delete the following word because it thinks the inserted word is a replacement. And then will not advance a space without two swipes.

It will add spaces inapropriately. In fact, it just tried twice to change that to "in appropriately". But it will also add spaces and/or delete characters at the end of autocorrect d words sometimes. I'm leaving that typo as an example.

On the occasions the autocorrect works properly for an actual typo, it will hold the original incorrectly-spelled character string until another typo is made, AND THEN REPLACE THE PREVIOUSLY-CORRECTED WORD WITH THE ORIGINAL INCORRECT SPELLING. Like, who tf is programming this way?

I bought the lifetime premium subscription, but it's not the money, it's the fact that this app bills itself as an AI-powered keyboard with strict privacy controls and at the same time makes no effort to be a *good* keyboard. It's a selling point, but the keyboard itself is so unbelievably annoying to use that I'm moving on. I was hoping it might get an usability update after this review, but it did not.

### 2/5 — Needs a lot of tweaks to me good

*2026-03-11*

The AI is atrocious – far worse than anything else I have used to date. There is no automatic adding of apostrophes to contractions like can't don't or I'm. I'm constantly fighting the not registering my spaces and registering the wrong key stroke. The backspace is not even usable. what would be great though is if custom key assignments were allowed. Then I could choose where to put the for example and put the backspace key into a more logical place. but honestly, unless the AI improves, this app will never be decent.

**Developer response:** Thanks for the detailed feedback - we understand your frustration with the AI, autocorrect, and backspace behavior.

To clarify: you can currently create custom text replacements, but full custom key assignments aren’t supported yet, which we know would help with your workflow.

### 4/5 — Great keyboard, terrible autocorrect

*2026-03-07, version 4.4.5*

The free version keyboard is great. A couple of the pro features would be nice but its not worth paying for. However the autocorrect is bad. And it costs money to get the feature to fix the bad autocorrects. Still a better keyboard than apple, which i had to stop using because of its autocorrect as well

### 1/5 — Update

*2026-08-20, version 4.4.5*

Time to update

### 1/5 — Awful. Annoying. Stupid.

*2026-07-10, version 4.4.5*

This keyboard is awful. The auto correct is incredibly bad, stupid, intrusive and annoying, it renders this app useless.
What a waste of time!
SO INCREDIBLY BAD!!!!!!

### 1/5 — Long press city

*2026-07-01, version 4.4.5*

Paid for a month specifically to get the ? and . button customization, only to find that they weren't customizable at all, only the long press functionality was. Pointless. If I wanted long press to be the solution to everything I'd have stayed with the default iOS keyboard.

Vibration on keypress is the worst offender by far. I type so fast that sometimes it skips a vibration and completely throws me off.

Currently there's no option to have swiping the space bar move the cursor, again you're forced to long press.

### 1/5 — Awful. Annoying. Stupid.

*2026-06-25, version 4.4.5*

This keyboard is awful. The auto correct is incredibly bad, stupid, intrusive and annoying, it renders this app useless.
What a waste of time!

### 1/5 — Doesn't work, simple as that

*2026-06-24, version 4.4.5*

Regularly corrects actual words into an incorrect word. As in almost every single time you type a word. Possibly the dumbest "smart" keyboard I've ever used. Completely useless as typing a simple sentance takes six times as long. I used it to type this review and it took almost eight minutes.

### 1/5 — How can a modern keyboard not have a swipe feature

*2026-05-23*

And every darn letter is in the wrong place

**Developer response:** Thanks for the feedback.

We're sorry to hear that the layout didn't work for you. Typewise uses a different key arrangement than traditional keyboards, and while some users find it easier after an adjustment period, we understand that it can also feel unfamiliar and frustrating if it doesn't match your typing habits. We appreciate you giving it a try.

### 1/5 — Useless

*2026-05-13, version 4.4.5*

Impossible to use as it lacks the ability to easily type symbols and punctuation marks.

### 1/5 — Abandoned

*2026-05-10, version 4.4.5*

If I had known that this would have not been kept up to date I would’ve never wasted so much money on the offline version

### 1/5 — Sure…

*2026-04-05*

You have to pay for literally everything except black and white. Oh, and that offline safety feature? You have to go “pro” and pay. This app sucks and is a lie.

**Developer response:** Thanks for sharing your feedback - we understand why that feels frustrating.

Some features, including the offline mode, are part of the paid version, which helps support ongoing maintenance of the app. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

### 1/5 — worst enemies…

*2026-03-09, version 4.4.5*

I will recommend this app to my worst enemies as a joke… i’ll tell them it’s great. ya this app rules!!!! 😈😈😈😈 hahahaha ya it’s great download it! my worst enemies just to get back at them.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Not the best but the privacy is worth it

*2026-06-28, version 4.4.5*

The main issue i have with it is the letters on the keyboard are too close together. It makes it incredibly easy to make typos and its a bit frustrating. The text predictions are mediocre at best. BUT that being said, its the only keyboard app for iOS that is (hopefully) truly private and not spying on everything you type and collecting and selling your data. Plus points for being swiss based. Will definitely recommend it to people who are seeking privacy over convenience.

### 5/5 — Fewest typos on iphone

*2026-06-05, version 4.4.5*

This keyboard is awesome for phones especially iphone. The normal iphone keyboard is a nightmare. This types better and had auto correct that actually works

### 5/5 — Great for wider fingertips

*2026-06-02*

I have looked quite a while for a keyboard where I am not inadvertently hitting adjacent keys. None really worked, using standard key layout. Typewise works fantastic, I don't think I ever make a mistake now, genius to use honeycomb hexagons. Takes a little while to get used to the slightly different layout, but totally worth it.

**Developer response:** Thank you for your feedback!

### 5/5 — Space key/? Issue addressed

*2026-05-04, version 4.4.5*

Change the space key sensitivity to high and the ? won't accidentally be selected. This was my only annoyance. Now my typing is so accurate and easy.

Typewise: you should set your software so if it sees a lot of question marks then backspace is from typing, you pop upw suggestion to do this

### 5/5 — 4 Years strong on this

*2026-03-12, version 4.4.5*

Been using this for years now and the only way i can type now is with this app.

### 5/5 — Love it.

*2026-03-01, version 4.4.5*

Love this keyboard. It's always been good to me. I wish they would update the app to fit better with iOS 26.

### 5/5 — Very good

*2026-02-02*

Looks very good. Would buy it if there were Ukrainian language support.

**Developer response:** Thank you very much for the review!
Ukrainian is on our todo list: https://suggestions.typewise.app/suggestions/65499/add-ukrainian

### 5/5 — The keyboard makes thibgs different

*2025-12-21, version 4.4.5*

If you dont like change then the octogon keyboardprobably isbt for you. But it makes for a unique experience in typing. Only con is i cant move the curser by dgagging the spacebar. Only can you erase by dragging letters

### 5/5 — Finally! A keyboard layout designed for thumbs.

*2025-12-07, version 4.4.5*

The ability to use Gemini instead of open AI would be nice.

### 5/5 — First class

*2025-11-04, version 4.4.5*

Easy interactions better than traditional keybourd
