Why? Because I want an app that is simple and can be used on an iPad mounted on my inner helm station and far enough away so that it’s uncomfortable to reach tiny plus and minus zoom buttons or use fingers to enlarge or reduce the zoom factor. The previous version had an optional zoom slider that could be reached on the screen’s right side and controlled easily by my right hand stabilized by the iPad’s frame. I have requested twice to have this feature added back but to no avail. Also the new version which is also Android compatible just seems to have too many marketing attractants that I should be able to turn off but cannot figure out how. As a navigation instructor this is frustrating to the max. I would love to rewrite this review to be more positive but only will if TZ-Nobeltec responds with some better news. ### 4/5 — Modification, ajout de données *2026-07-27* Bonjour, je vous ai écrit à plusieurs reprises concernant l’ajout de données et de pouvoir laisser à utilisateur de pouvoir le mettre ou bon lui semble au niveau de son écran iPad comme sur Time zéro. Marie, de l'équipe produit. ### 4/5 — Problème majeur de sécurité en mer : l’affichage superposition instruments/carte ont été supprimé *2026-06-28* Bonjour, Nous utilisons TZ iBoat dans un cadre de navigation réel et de formation de skippers, y compris de professionnels. La version 4.0.3 semble avoir supprimé ou rendu inaccessible l’affichage simultané de la cartographie et des données de navigation essentielles (COG, SOG, cap, position, profondeur, vent, etc.). Si tel est le cas, cette évolution constitue pour nous une régression majeure. L’intérêt même d’un logiciel de navigation est de pouvoir visualiser en permanence la situation du bateau sur la carte tout en disposant simultanément des informations de navigation nécessaires à la prise de décision. En mer, il n’est ni pratique ni souhaitable d’avoir à basculer continuellement entre un écran “Carte” et un écran “Instruments” pour obtenir des informations qui doivent être consultées ensemble. Cette organisation ne correspond ni à l’usage réel de la navigation ni aux principes de sécurité que nous enseignons. Aujourd’hui, nous formons des plaisanciers, des chefs de bord et des professionnels. Nous avons besoin de pouvoir afficher simultanément la cartographie et les données de navigation. Sans cette fonctionnalité, il devient difficile d’envisager l’utilisation de TZ iBoat comme outil principal de navigation et de formation. Pouvez-vous nous confirmer : * si cette fonction existe toujours dans la version 4.0.3 ; * comment la réactiver le cas échéant ; * ou s’il s’agit d’une suppression volontaire de l’interface. ### 3/5 — Frustrating *2026-06-27, version 4.0.3* Keeps going into 3D view when I scroll or zoom, despite 3D settings being turned off. Once I installed the latest version on 8 June 2026 it has become incredibly unstable and shuts down frequently. Really not even usable. I created a service ticket. Hopefully problem can be resolved quickly but until it is I suggest avoiding the new version Update 25 June - Ver. 4.0.3 has resolved the problem. Thanks for fixing it so quickly ### 3/5 — This is a great app, but… *2026-06-18, version 4.0.3* I’ve been using this for a few years professionally for deliveries and charters throughout the Caribbean. I’ve always been very happy with its functions and quality of charts, integration of weather and what I think is the best anchor watch available period. My only complaint until now has been that the satellite overlays are very very out of date, 7-8 years in some cases. However the new version is clunky and very frustrating. Weather used to be a simple layer you can turn on or off, but now is a separate tab, which doesn’t open on the same location as where i might have been on the Navigation tab, so then i have to move the chart again to were i want to see the weather. The Anchor tab seemed un-needed as it was just a button, so why make a tab that has to be set up with the layers you want visible. The logbook was always available in Smart Search so also seems like an extra layer of UI for no reason. My biggest complaint is that I can no longer use Smart Search to find and activate a route. When choosing a route from Smart Search the chart zooms out, but the activate icon is greyed out, and it doesn’t show the route unless I click on the start waypoint, but I have hundreds of routes and many share start waypoints, so then i have to change the settings to show arrival waypoints, find the arrival waypoint on the chart, and then i can click activate. What used to take 5 seconds now takes 5 minutes. I love many things about this software and the PC based TimeZero, but am not happy with how clunky version 4 is ### 2/5 — New version glitchy, keeps shutting down *2026-06-11, version 4.0.1* I’ve used tz iBoat for years with great success. What a disappointment! No satellite view, whereas Navionics has, at least in Eastern Pacific, excellent satellite overlay This is useful anywhere, and critical inside the atolls, which are mostly un surveyed and full of coral stacks known locally as bommies. These show well on Navionics. In passing, notice that TZ for the P C also lacks the satellite overlay. We use the freebie OpenCPN for that, despite having TZ and up to date TZ charts on the ships computer. Many years ago Nobeltec had good satellite overlays on their VNS software, but are missing the boat today. **Developer response:** Hello, Thank you for your feedback, and apologies for the delayed response. You are correct: satellite imagery is now available in TZ iBoat, but there are still isolated gaps in coverage depending on the area, particularly on certain atolls (including the Tuamotu Islands), due to our data provider's coverage. We have reported this issue to our map production team so that it can be taken into account in data monitoring. Please note: we have recently improved PhotoFusion and it is now possible to disable it if depth-related blurring masks the imagery; in the case of the Tuamotu Islands, however, this does not compensate for the lack of satellite imagery. Marie, TimeZero Product Team ### 1/5 — Critical flaw *2025-02-06, version 3.1.5* This app has a major flaw; it does not enable any chart data that has useful satellite imagery. There are at least four sets of navigationally useful sat imagery I know of, and that’s just counting US sets! But I can’t access them on TZ iBoat. Added TZ IBoat at same time. I am thrilled by the integration of the two systems. I plan rout on the IPad and they are uploaded to TZ pro. Activate a rout on any device and the rout is active on all system devices. Weather, tides, ocean conditions, ais, offline navigation, and multiple charts it has it all. All with intuitive user interface when on the go. And to top it off, the customer service is wonderful. A while back I wrote a lengthy email explaining all my issues and frustrations with this app. Instead of brushing me off with a copy paste apology I was asked for a list of things I’d like to see changed. I then got follow ups for clarification on some of those changes. It’s taken some time but many of issues I and I’m sure many others once had with this app have been addressed. This kinda of attention to improving will definitely be affecting the next MFD purchase that goes on my boat.
