This is our second smart shower. The first was about 5 years ago and worked great. This shower never worked like the first shower. We couldnt get it to connect to Alexa and the temp would not go above 105. Both things we could do on our previous house. The set up was also more challenging with 2.4 and 5 ghz networks. We now have new phones and are on 6ghz networks. The moen shower can not be found o the network, at all. My husband and i both have computer science degrees and he specialized in networks. Our shower has also become unreliable. We regularly have to unplug and plug back in. I now hate my shower. I don’t like cold showers. Eventually we will be replacing the system to a reliable manual system. So disappointing. ### 1/5 — The reviews are true! *2026-03-29* Just like the reviews say, connecting to the device never works. I have been on phone with support, done everything their online logs say to do, I have a UniFi WiFi system with 6 access points and have created a separate 2.4ghz channel. Nothing works. It keeps telling me the app has timed out. Not only do the options within the U by Moen unit not make sense without their directions (for instance, having to choose to setup an Android/Google device in order to setup your iPhone), even when you do that, you wait for 5 full minutes for it to just tell you that app has timed out. It shouldn’t be this hard. I try every now and then when I have free time and we’re going on a month now of it not being connected to our phone. Without pairing to the app (and I don’t know if you can do it in the app), I can’t dim or just turn the screen off for night/evening showers or just to turn off in general, you can’t change the clock or screen, etc. It’s very frustrating ### 1/5 — Won’t connect *2026-03-19, version 3.7.1* Your app is terrible. I am following the directions exactly as described in your documents. The app gets to step 3 of 3, the smart shower looks like it power cycles and when it is back on it says it’s not connected to WiFi and the app is stuck at 3 of 3 until it throws me an error. Absolute garbage ### 1/5 — Garbage *2026-02-19, version 3.7.1* Won’t ever connect to the Moen network to set up the device, so this app is worthless ### 1/5 — Worse than awful *2026-02-11, version 3.7.1* Very buggy. Unable to connect controller with this app or with android version. It keeps crashing. ### 2/5 — The hardware is great the software’s marginal *2025-11-18, version 3.7.1* This product could be so much better than what it really is. Here are just a few obvious improvements. Let’s say that two people are in a shower and they don’t really want to see each other completely with the glow from the display on the control panel. Why is there not a dim or dark mode? Why doesn’t it display the temperature outside or the weather for the day? Why is the hour on the clock only consuming 5% of the when 50% of the screen is empty? Why couldn’t you have skins to make it different colors this product functionally works great. Its software is marginal at best. It receives no updates. I think this shows that a company that can cast brass can’t code. ### 1/5 — Horrible app *2025-11-06, version 3.7.0* Installed this system in my new home 3 yrs ago. The system goes done once or twice per month and can’t connect to the internet no matter what! ### 4/5 — What Worked for Me *2025-10-20* Started our bathroom renovation this past July and bought this system on plumber’s advice. When it came time to installing and activating, I read reviews and was TERRIFIED that we had made a big mistake.. I began the installation and hit a snag right away, so I called Moen. To my surprise, customer service was AWESOME, and I only held for 1 min. Rep told me my unit was defective and they sent another right away by FedEx. Here’s the IMPORTANT part. When you set this up, you MUST ensure your devices are connected to a 2.4 GZ network and NOT a 5.0 GZ network!!! I read so many reviews and I really feel this is where many of the difficulties are encountered. I use an EERO WiFi mesh router and it allows you to setup a dedicated 2.4 GZ network. The rep walked me through how to setup this process and the unit started working IMMEDIATELY and completely without issue. It’s actually a GREAT system and makes the shower SO fabulous!! These are my 2 cents that actually worked. I’d also say to feel free and pickup the phone and call Moen - their support is wonderful, and call your WiFi provider to make SURE you are connecting to a 2.4 GZ network - it won’t work otherwise.. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t connect to the app *2025-10-12, version 3.7.0* We moved house, there’s a Moen ‘smart’ shower here. It’s not very smart. The instructions to connect it to one of the various Moen apps do not align with what appears on the screen of the device. Moral of the story, don’t invest in smart technology, invariably the manufacturer won’t support it after a year or two. Might as well buy a normal shower. ### 2/5 — Let down in the end *2025-07-23* I’ve had the Moen smart valve in my shower since 2020. It worked 90% of the time which was good enough for us. On July 11th it lost its way and ever since then can’t be accessed from the app a more importantly doesn’t display the time while my wife is taking her morning shower. My wife gives 100% of her time and attention to her job as a front line health care worker and tasked me with fixing this problem. I’m $400 in the hole with a plumber that was listed on Moen’s website as an authorized vendor and my shower still does not function properly or connect to the Moen app. I’ve always trusted Moen but I’m starting to feel like they have lost their way.
