All that I had done was gone. Now you want me to spend another half hour on your survey and what if it bombs again? ### 4/5 — Heart or app keeps freezing *2023-12-15, version 1.34* As soon as the heart study in December the page and application freezes so I have to remove app and reload it but hit the home button in app and again all over ? ### 3/5 — Delete app after survey *2022-10-18* After reading that the app tracks you, despite saying it won’r. I delete it each time after answering Covid survey questions. Hope that stops tracking. I notice that now the questions take on a more political survey tone such as whether you have financial concerns. Etc. That’s not Covid health issues. ### 2/5 — Broken workflow for password reset on ios *2022-01-26* After requesting a password reset, I receive an email which contains a link. Clicking the link takes me to a webpage which immediately redirects me to the ios app store page for the Eureka app. Clicking “open” on that store page takes me back to the app which is still sitting there offering to send a password reset email. There is no way out of that perpetual loop. ### 2/5 — Unintuitive *2021-12-01, version 1.9.8* Entering your prescriptions is a pain. Both just come up with the message “The app can’t run if your device is jailbroken. Please use other device to run the app”. It says that my phone is jailbroken and will not run. My phone is not jailbroken. ### 2/5 — Serious battery hog *2021-06-06* I was using the app for a couple of months to answer COVID surveys, then at some point it started becoming a serious battery drain. I’d go to bed with 20% left on my phone, and the battery would run out while I was sleeping. I finally checked in settings to see what app was using so much battery, and Eureka was *by far* the biggest battery draining app on my phone. No idea why such a simple app would be such a power hog (from reading other reviews, probably because it’s checking my location way too frequently), but I had to delete it to keep my phone usable. Disappointing, as I wanted to support this research. ### 4/5 — Location tracking bug *2021-05-17* Overall, the app works very well. Sign-in was quick and easy. The questionnaires work fine. Although, I haven’t figured out why the study hasn’t asked if I’ve been vaccinated yet (I have). When I first downloaded the app, I noticed some negative reviews about location tracking. Although I used the app for many months without an issue. Then recently the app starting following my location even after I closed the app (Apple places a blue indicator at the top of the Home Screen), even though my setting was set to allow only when using the app. After two days of that, I had to go into the settings app and turn off location services for that app, which seemed to solve the problem. It’s a strange bug, though. ## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated) ### 1/5 — Crashes when trying to open *2025-04-25, version 1.57* The app for iPhone works fine, but when downloaded the version for the ipad, it crashes instead of opening. ### 1/5 — Way to many bugs and app freezes *2024-07-30, version 1.43* Opted out of the study and deleted the app because this app is way too buggy, and freezes all the time. Extremely frustrating to try to use it. Even after you delete the app they keep spamming you with text messages and no way to turn them off. Stop!! ### 1/5 — App is broken *2024-03-15, version 1.37* You can’t reset your password because the password link that they send expires before you have time to tap in a new password. You can’t contact the program coordinator for assistance because the app won’t let you. Can’t reset the password, can’t login, can’t help out. You really need to get your app fixed. ### 1/5 — Won't run *2023-12-08, version 1.34* I can't tell whether it works as advertized or not. I'm attempting to run it on a Macbook running MacOS 14.1.2 on an M1 chip. And every time I try it, it throws up a window telling me my unit is jailbroken. huh?! I've never heard of a jailbroken macOS. In any event, it won't run so it's worth a no star raring if I could. ### 1/5 — Hangs on “study is no longer available” dialogue box *2023-12-08* I’ve used Eureka to participate in several studies. I had signed up for the healtheheart study, and after completing a lengthy intake survey, when I reopened the app, another study, TREAT, popped up a dialogue box saying it’s no longer available. after acknowledging this dialogue box, it takes me to a grayed-out screen for the TREAT study, and no matter what I do, that screen stays and won’t allow me to go anywhere. Running latest iOS. Too bad, I wanted to support this project. ### 1/5 — It’s like nobody is testing this app LOL *2022-01-24, version 1.10* Password reset link forwards to the App Store’s page for this app … even though I have the app … I manually open the app, it says “we just texted you a reset link”. I open the reset link on my laptop, it opens a window telling me to download the app 🤷 Haven’t been able to use since I got a new iPhone. ### 1/5 — Crashes on opening the app *2021-11-24, version 1.9.8* Not the first time the app has had problems. I notify them. They say they will look into it & fix it. NOT FIXED. I’m happy to contribute, but if you can’t get the bugs taken care of, please count me out. Update: As of 11/24/21, app crashes on opening. How can people participate, if they can’t even get into the app! ## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated) ### 5/5 — 😕 respond to reviews *2023-01-11* You are hobbling your studies by not responding to each and every review, positive or negative, here in the AppStore. Responding what good developers do. Reasonable people are properly skeptical and hesitant in joining your (worthwhile?) studies when you don’t respond to the very pointed specific criticisms about tracking, etc. which constitute a large percentage of reviews. Make it easy for people to choose to help. Also your website is vague corporate-speak happy talk. Communicate straightforwardly without fluffy marketing verbiage. The short Vimeo video is good. I’m drawn to help as I fully believe in science, but I’m turned off by UCSF’s presentation as well as a lack of response to reviews. Giving five stars now, will sign on and see what actually happens with battery drain — and whether my user experience is not a pain and a time-waster. I hope this criticism reaches someone who can understand and execute. And respond. ### 5/5 — Great resource app *2022-03-09* I was so excited this app company started tracking SARS - COV- 2. I have learned so much from this app and another CLINICAL trial app. I have been able to advise my family correctly. I did a clinical trial for allergies to Covid vaccine and got my 3 Covid 19 shots. 1 placebo, 2 Pfizer Bio N Tech. This is a great app! I am enrolled in a few of the clinical trials. If answering questions can help researchers get a handle on Covid-19 I am happy to participate. They notify me on a regular basis to answer basic questions which takes less than a couple minutes maybe four or five days a week.
