## What is UHC Motion?

NOTE: UnitedHealthcare® offers this wellness program to employers; it may be included with your health plan. Confirm your eligibility by checking with your company’s HR representative.

It pays to take steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
Simply put, UnitedHealthcare Motion® 1) gives you three daily walking goals and 2) rewards you financially for achieving them.

Our walking goals are designed to promote health and wellness. Reaching a high daily step count can be important, but there’s more to maximizing the health benefits of walking: Motion’s “FIT” goals are a prescription to move with Frequency, Intensity, and Tenacity every day.

Did you know that even a 1-hour workout may not be enough to reduce health risk factors if the majority of your day is spent sitting? We lose two hours of life for every hour we sit, Dr. James Levine, a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic, writes in his book “Get up!” Let Motion incent you to get up frequently for brief walks every day.

Money may be a good incentive.
UnitedHealthcare Motion gives you the opportunity to earn over $1,000 per plan year for out-of-pocket medical expenses by doing more of what you may already do: walk. You can earn for one, two, or all three goals each day. Earnings are deposited quarterly into an HRA or HSA, as applicable.

### 3/5 — Excited but Dissapointed

*2024-02-05*

I downloaded this app earlier after finding out that I qualified for it through my healthcare plan. I was excited to start using it to pay for a Apple Watch using their Walk it Back program but after ordering my watch the app will not link to my Health app on my Iphone so I can not begin using it to see how it works while I wait for my new watch to be delivered. I am hoping that some of the reviews I have read are not true but so far I am skeptical. Please fix the linking issues as I followed the videos and my health app is showing that all permissions are granted to the Motion app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and have turned my phone on and off again. I am looking forward to using this perk if it can work properly. I gave 3 stars because the ordering of the watches worked seamlessly but the rest of what I have seen of the app does not work.

### 4/5 — Update in previous

*2023-10-14*

Thank you for updating for the Apple Watch 9 my syncing is finally working again! Thank you to the motion team for responding quickly and trying to get it to work it clearly needed this update. Let’s hope it continues to work great!

This app works great when it does but it never lasts, some days you get it to sync no problem then come another day and won’t sync for hours or days for some. It especially doesn't work if you change to a different tracker. Please get it to work right once and for all! Follow-up: spoke to UHC motion customer service, they could not figure out why I couldn’t sync after over an hour on the phone. They sent my issue to their resolution dept, which I honestly don’t think it will help. I’m having the same issues as a lot of people on here, won’t sync on demand only syncs if I sign out and sign in sometimes, other times I have to sign out and uninstall the app and reinstall the it might sync. So frustrating, I have the Apple Watch 9 series. Also, my intensity will come through after a 30 min workout but nothing else until I do the steps mentioned above. Please please app de developers fix this.

**Developer response:** Hi Zgirl251! Thank you for your feedback! We are sorry that you are having to consistently log in to the UHC Motion application when trying to use it. Please email us at unitedhealthcaremotion@uhc.com and refer to this review. We would like to get more information on this issue and work with you to resolve it.

### 2/5 — Eh

*2023-07-10*

So, since I’m getting money for wearing a watch I was going to wear, I’m only slightly annoyed. I walk 30 miles a week at work, within 5 days. It tracks my steps just fine, but it will only every blue moon track that I’ve hit the 500 steps in an hour goal. I started with a different phone that it always tracked perfectly. Same job, same steps. Switched phones and now it almost never tracks anything but the amount of steps I’ve walked daily. it takes 15-30 minutes for me to get it sync, even if I’m syncing ut daily. Again, wasn’t an issue with my older cell phone. I’ve had the same watch the entire time. I’ve tried to delete and reinstall both Watch and phone, close out of it fully both watch and phone, it never fixes it. So if you just really ignore it and go hey, it’s free money so I’m just not going to over stress it, you’ll be fine. Also, I walk 30 miles a week. I work 10-12 hour days. I never hit my intensity because I'm not working out after having a workout from being at work all day.

### 1/5 — Read all the Reviews - Most Recent First

*2023-02-08*

Notice all the complaints about the same glitches. Notice how far back they go. All one star reviews. I have the exact same things happening: frequency ring closes on watch after duplicating or triplicating walks. Slow syncing. And, my recent issue: the app just closes and is frozen on 5 frequency walks. I’m tired of emailing and calling support about these problems. They don’t respond to emails, and when calling, they tell me the frequency ring problem is a “known issue.” Now that I read the reviews and see how long these things have been issues it’s really disheartening. I pay thousands of dollars in insurance premiums, and have had to pay a few more thousand in medical bills. I’m trying to get over a thousand “back” this year and the developers of this app are making it really difficult with all the unfixed long term glitches that they know about. Come on, just fix these things and stop putting automatic replies on reviews asking people to email you and refer to the review. I’ve done that with no reply. It is really sad and pitiful that I continue using this app in hopes to save some money. This is what my healthcare has come to.

**Developer response:** Hi Regular User 2835! Thank you for your review! We are sorry to hear that your Motion app is not processing your sync attempts in a timely manner nor recording your earned activities properly. ### 1/5 — Doesn’t work most of the time

*2023-02-08, version 4.9.6.1*

Is this app meant for Apple products? The app on the phone doesn’t show any progress or where you stand, it only shows if it’s completed. The “steps” is the only thing that consistently works. EVERY TIME I open the app on the watch it automatically gives me all 6 of the frequencies at once and shows it completed on the watch, but it won’t transfer over to the phone app to give me any credit because it logs all 6 frequencies at once. The only way to get intensity is legit jogging for 30 minutes. The most frustrating thing is working a 12 hour shift and logging over 19,000 steps and literally not stopped moving for 12 hours, but not getting credit for the 6 frequencies because the app is buggy.
Likely a “feature not a bug situation” since it’s costs me $28 a month in lost benefits, yet they still get to harvest my data. I doubt I’ll be keeping it much longer.

### 1/5 — If you have Apple Watch, don’t bother

*2023-01-25*

NOT WORTH THE FRUSTRATION. It’s been years of these complaints in the reviews, but it case you were wondering, this app is still horrendous on Apple Watch. Glitches constantly, sends notifications that make no sense, doesn’t update at a speed needed for fitness tracking, and will tell you you’ve hit goals when you haven’t. You have to sit and wait for it to sync with the phone app, sometimes takes 5 minutes because there’s no way for you to make it sync on command. Customer service is useless, admits it’s a issue and just tells you to check the phone app for more accurate data - but how can it have accurate data when it won’t sync with the watch?! Phone app also doesn’t show walk progress and doesn’t update often, so it’s useless when trying to hit a walk goal.

The Frequency goal itself is problematic because I can be on my feet all day, walk over 12k steps, and not hit a single frequency walk because I haven’t done 300 steps in 5 minutes spaced an hour apart. Clearly designed for folks sitting at a desk, not those trying to be truly active throughout the day.

I recommend UHC throw the whole watch app away and just utilize the tracking data from Apple directly. My activity app already tracks steps, frequency, workouts, etc, and I already had to agree to share that data to use the Motion phone app, so why add this useless layer of bugs on top?

### 1/5 — Absolutely terrible

*2023-01-23*

This app is absolutely terrible, but I guess I wouldn’t expect anything less from UHC. It’s like a pretend health plan- they pretend that you have benefits but when it comes to paying for them, they are nowhere to be found.

Supposedly you can earn $3 a day by using this app and completing your steps daily. THE PROBLEM is that to earn those rewards the app has to actually sync with a limited kind of compatible trackers (Garmin is on the list, but not MY style of Garmin watch, even though you use the same Connect app regardless of which Garmin product you have), OR the health app. And as noted previously with all things UHC, their benefits don’t go beyond saying that they exist- as in, you can’t actually use the benefits because the tools they provide DONT WORK. The app lags severely in syncing and therefore your steps are not accurately added and therefore NO BENEFIT FOR YOU.

Even after doing more than double steps for frequency and syncing immediately after it continues to say “next frequency walk “now.” “ I was excited that UHC offered this program but it’s obviously for appearances only. Doesn’t work at all.

**Developer response:** Hi lindaleabee! Thank you for providing this review. We are sorry to hear that your Motion app is not tracking your activities properly. If you would, please email us at unitedhealthcaremotion@uhc.com and refer to this review. We would like to get more information on this issue and work with you directly to resolve it.

### 1/5 — No Support For Apple Watch

*2023-01-23*

Worst app ever, don’t waste your time!!! I would give zero stars if I could. In the time I have used this app in conjunction with my series 8 Apple watch, I am not happy. Watch app constantly shuts down when trying to sync with the phone app. The only way I can get it to sync everyday is to turn my watch off and on several times, so frustrating! I like the idea of gaining rewards for being active, but please calculate & reward fairly. It would be nice if I was actually rewarded accordingly if your step count matched the actual step count built into the watch. Funny how my watch counts 2000 steps more than this app recognizes and gives me credit for…..absolute waste! I would like to continue to support this app, but it needs better integration and support for Apple devices. If you have your own watch and don’t choose the work it off option, you’ll probably always have difficulty syncing the device….Followed the advice from a previous review and sent email to UHC and still haven’t heard back from anyone.

**Developer response:** Hi nolababy1986! Thank you for your review! We are sorry to hear that the Motion app on your Apple Watch is consistently crashing upon use and that the Motion app is not tracking your earned steps properly. If you would, please email us at unitedhealthcaremotion@uhc.com and refer to this review. We would like to get more information on this issue and work with you directly to resolve it.

### 3/5 — Issue with latest update

*2023-01-14, version 4.9.6.1*

Ever since the latest update, I have never been able to sync a completed frequency goal on my phone app. It always shows on my watch correctly that I have completed my frequency goal but when I go to sync on my phone app, it shows five out of six complete never six out of six. I tried deleting the app and then powering off my Apple Watch and my iPhone for over a minute and then powering my iPhone back on re-downloading the app re-logging in powering back up my Apple Watch and then re-syncing and still it has not worked. I will continue to call United healthcare motion customer support each day so that way I get my credit due for completing my goal and until this issue is resolved. I am currently due 4 credits as of now .

### 2/5 — Apple Watch experience is poor

*2023-01-10, version 4.9.5.3*

I downloaded this app six months ago and had issues with syncing and proper tracking. I reached out to the developer, and they did respond, but I resolved the tracking issue on my own (I had downloaded it while en route to Norway, which set up the timezone incorrectly).

The issues with syncing persisted, and I was frustrated that I had to use other apps to signify a fitness event, so I stopped using the app for a few months.

I began using the app once again in November, knowing its limitations. The app updated in December, and became unreliable with my Apple watch. My watch would indicated I had reached the frequency or intensity goal, but when synced to my phone, I discovered the objective had not been satisfied.

This would not be frustrating if the app synced properly. This app will not sync for 24-48 hours at times. During one 24+ hour period of the app not syncing, I tried closing app, restarting phone and watch, uninstalling app and none of that resolved the sync issue.

Please fix the issue with the Apple watch incorrectly showing goal has completed, and I implore the developers to find a way to make syncing better.
