### 3/5 — Outdated Now

*2025-04-28, version 3.1.4*

As an FYI for anyone purchasing, this is now out of date and doesn’t represent any of the questions advised anymore.

### 4/5 — PPL Exams

*2023-07-25, version 2.9.2*

Good mock tests for the real thing but some questions have the incorrect answers for example… in Human Performance a question about oxygen levels in the atmosphere claims the answer is 0.21% when it is really about 20% but on the whole a good test of your knowledge and the amount of info for the obey is still good.

Fingers crossed for the real exams.

### 4/5 — Great app With Flaws

*2023-03-05, version 2.8.1*

I’ve found this app to be very helpful as a beginner and have gained a lot of knowledge from the revision sections. It covers a decent range of areas across the board from what i can make of as a novice.

The questions change as you progress and the algorithm updates as your pass rate increases.

However there are a few flaws that need to be addressed

• There are questions that have two of the same correct answer but choosing one may result in an incorrect answer for eg

(A) 1200z

(B) 1200z

There are quite a few typos which make the questions confusing

At the end of the test the incorrect answers you’ve made will display more info on the correct answer or topic this can lead to a dead end in a lot of questions as theres not always a clear explanation, which is why you should with out fail make sure to learn from your textbooks where all knowledge is sound.

Overall its a great confidence builder par the flaws.

Price was reasonable for complete access.

Recommend for beginners whilst simultaneously revising from a pooleys revision book.

### 3/5 — Helpful but needs updating

*2021-09-19, version 2.7.0*

I have been using the tool now for a few days and have found it to be helpful to revise knowledge I had from previous. However, the spelling could be improved. Have found lots of grammatical errors which lead to unclear questions. Also found some of the test answers I would challenge. The ‘more info’ buttons after the mock exams at times don’t explain why they chose a particular answer.

### 3/5 — Impossible to register for an account

*2021-09-03, version 2.7.0*

Initial problems mostly addressed with use. Still can’t register. Same questions keep appearing frequently in comms section and some weird descriptions eg cirrus being described as tall clouds as opposed to high clouds!
So useful, but with care and check answers where you are suspicious.

### 3/5 — Not updated

*2021-06-10, version 2.7.0*

This app is an useful tool but I wouldn’t rely on it only to pass the exams. It’s not updated for the new e-exams, passed my air law last week and hadn’t seen half the questions on there, managed to pass but take care to read the books or other resources which are up to date as the new e-exams have much larger question banks which you don’t see on this app or the others so it has become harder.

### 4/5 — Needs updating

*2021-06-05, version 2.7.0*

This served as a good tool when the exams were paper based. Now that they have switched to E-exams, the questions aren’t as closely related

### 3/5 — Extremely helpful for revision but let down by errors

*2021-03-08, version 2.7.0*

Made revision for my exams much simpler and more fun. Unfortunately it is let down by errors and poor referencing for incorrect answers on the tests.
e.g. in one test QNE is explained as being an altitude. On other tests when you give an incorrect answer and then follow the correct answer explanation, the explanation page does not show the relevant information

### 4/5 — Good but app glitchy

*2021-01-12, version 2.7.0*

The new help section opens a window which I cannot scroll so is unusable. Also click on the Rate Ppltutor button in the app and nothing happens. Also unclear if my app has updated automatically to include the new questions. Using iPhone 6.

### 4/5 — Great for practise - but use multiple sources for revision

*2020-12-09, version 2.6.0*

Took my Air Law exam today and passed (just). This app has been a great tool but do not rely on it solely for the new CAA online PPL Exams. The first question on the test was not one that I had seen in the Pooleys book OR this app. That answer required me to look at the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) and the different components (runway map icons was the question I got stuck on and had never seen) so I’d suggest looking in a little bit more detail into the different publications you may use for flight information/planning.
Pg. 13 of the Pooleys book for an overview.
Hope that helps and good luck!

### 3/5 — Okish

*2020-08-30, version 2.5.0*

It’s good to learn - but needs simple things like a ‘forgotten password’ button without which I can’t log in on another device

### 3/5 — Customer service

*2020-07-20, version 2.5.0*

How do I restore purchases? I’ve tried pressing the restore purchase button and entering my iTunes password

### 4/5 — Fantastic App but...

*2020-07-09, version 2.5.0*

There a quite a number of grammatical, spelling and physics errors (for example using the term ‘weight’ when talking about mass, also using lb/inch when it should be lb inch) So for anyone learning please be careful and keep a close eye out for these mistakes so you don’t do the same! But other than that the app is great and it has a really nice layout and great explanations.

### 3/5 — Needs review but worth the money

*2020-04-22, version 2.4.7*

This app is a good way to prep for PPL. Although 1) its is primarily for fixed wing, not helicopters. 2) often there are mistakes in the notes, with majority in principle of flight chapter. Two exam questions were incorrect.

Would give 5* if the contents are proof read to correct all the mistakes & typos.

## Most critical reviews (10 lowest-rated)

### 1/5 — Out of date

*2026-01-24, version 3.1.4*

Unfortunately not sufficient for PPL - material is not enough and major areas missing from Air Law.

### 1/5 — The new update isn't useful

*2023-03-31, version 2.9.0*

Can you please return the last version of the app. The new update is not that useful because sometimes the answers turn up wrong by just 0.1 degrees.

And the true and the false questions don't even exist in the actual CCA exams.

The last version helped me a lot lot did pass my 8 exams by just reversing on it.

Thank you

### 1/5 — Useless

*2021-05-01, version 2.7.0*

Don’t waste your money. The question bank does not match at all with the new CAA e-exams.

### 1/5 — Angry

*2020-09-18, version 2.5.0*

I’m not happy with the fact I bought this app with all exams open to me. I have then gone back to use the app and now I have to pay for the service again. Do you have some type of use by date? I don’t think that’s what I paid for. Can someone please look into this. It is a great app that has helped me out but I’m still 3 exams to go and I wanted to scrub up on everything else before my skills test.

### 1/5 — Support lack of!

*2020-04-07, version 2.4.7*

Doing the air law exams I have found that the same questions come up, which I understand but what I don’t understand is how the answer can be different each time.
There is no email address to get I touch with the writers. Although they do pop up in aviation groups on Facebook recommending the program. The graphics are dated and I wonder if I am learning the right stuff to pass the exam. Or is ppl out date??
Provide an email for feedback ppl!

### 1/5 — Good app

*2020-03-12, version 2.4.7*

Great as a free trial, but discount code provided by the vendor was not accepted.

### 1/5 — WT

*2018-09-07, version 2.4.7*

Really good approach and design but quite a lot mistakes even into Air Law section.

### 2/5 — Buggy

*2021-02-15, version 2.7.0*

The desktop version is buggy and occasionally for no reason will just stop halfway through a series of questions causing you to have to start again. On more than one occasion when I logged out of my account it wiped out my exam statistics for previous exams.

### 2/5 — Poor

*2018-11-19, version 2.4.7*

There is barely any questions.
Very basic content, probably covers 20% of what you need to know for the exam.
Also, mistakes in answers.

### 3/5 — A proofreader would help

*2025-08-10, version 3.1.4*

This is a really useful app for revision when preparing for the CAA ground exams. However, given that this is aimed at a British user base, the use of the word airplane (rather than aeroplane). and the American spelling ‘license’ as well as missing apostrophes everywhere detract from the authority of the app. This is not rocket science it just needs illiterate human to proofread it.

## Most praised reviews (10 highest-rated)

### 5/5 — Great learning resource

*2024-10-08, version 3.1.4*

I just passed my last PPL exam and the ppl tutor app was a great help for me! I used it for each topic
I definitely recommend this app for anyone doing there ppl exams as they give explanations to each question answered incorrectly

### 5/5 — Overall Great App

*2020-06-29, version 2.5.0*

App is great. Although this app could probably let you pass just by using it, I use this app along with Pooleys revision books. The books allow you to get more of an understanding of all points, whereas this app just allows you to memorise answers.

The questions and answers in this app highly replicate the answers on the current paper ground test.

However, as the ground exams are now going to be done via a computer (from late July 2020), they could use a question bank which contains 1000’s of questions, some of which may be on topics that this app does not currently cover.

It would be interesting to see how this app will evolve over the next few months to accommodate this.

Everyone is kicking off about the splash screen taking ages, it’s not a bad amount of time (5 seconds or so).

Overall this app is worth the money, and so far has helped me a lot.

### 5/5 — Absolutely recommended

*2020-06-28, version 2.5.0*

It is an easy method to improve yourself and increase chances of success

### 5/5 — Focussed study

*2020-03-16, version 2.4.7*

This app is superb from its revision Notes to the testing allows rapid assimilation and practice

### 5/5 — Best PPL app available. All questions came up in my exams

*2020-02-02, version 2.4.7*

Best PPL app available. Would be good to have a contact for the designer as one of the Flight Planning questions is now obsolete - Regarding other aircraft activity near Swindon North of the M4 motorway. This airfield is no longer active for parachute drops and microlites. Very recently the airfield became ‘ Disused’ and has planning for housing. It may not have been updated on the exam papers either so worth knowing that the answer is ‘Para and micro lite activity’ but the new 1:500 00 maps certainly won’t indicate that. Thanks for the app. The majority of my PPL passes were 100% other than Met which I gained 92% and OP which I gained 86% due to this app. Well done and thank you.

### 5/5 — Superb app

*2020-01-19, version 2.4.7*

I would highly recommend this app to everyone who is studying for their exams. It’s just like the real thing and I flew through. Do yourself a favour and get all of them, save yourself time and money and then keep them on your phone, their great refresher training (even after you’ve passed the exams) when your sat around and very quickly you’ll have everything engrained and all the answers at the tip of your tongue.

### 5/5 — The best

*2019-11-04, version 2.4.7*

This has been the best in helping me with my PPL exams and I’ve tried most of the competition!

### 5/5 — Very Helpful Could not recommend enough

*2019-07-29, version 2.4.7*

This is a very helpful app with most if not all of the information you need as well as a feature for doing the test and seeing where you went wrong, or a full timed “exam”. Air Law comes as standard but it is £20 to unlock everything, however when one pooleys book costs £23 and will take an age to read, an app where for less than one book everything is included seems almost too good to be true!

### 5/5 — An excellent app.

*2019-07-28, version 2.4.7*

The Questions so far seem to be up to date and reflect what you get in the exam. Also focuses down the long textbooks to the essential information that you really need to remember

### 5/5 — Great App

*2019-07-13, version 2.4.7*

Really useful app. Most times you get a question wrong you can review the correct answer and it explains why. Really helped to get ready for PPL exams.
