## What is Uku?

Uku is a ukulele tuner that does one thing, quietly: it listens to your pitch in real time, so tuning disappears and playing can begin.

TUNE INSTANTLY
Real-time pitch detection built on the YIN algorithm locks onto your ukulele's tone the moment you pluck a string — accurate even with harmonic-rich, complex tones.

FOUR TUNINGS
Standard (High G), Low G, Baritone, and D Tuning (Canadian) — switch with one tap.

BUILT-IN METRONOME — NEW IN 1.1
Freely adjustable from 30 to 250 BPM, 1 to 9 beats per measure, per-beat accents, and subdivision up to 4-way, so you can build a steady sense of rhythm.

CHORD LOOKUP
Major, minor, dominant 7th, major 7th, and minor 7th chords for all seven natural roots — check a shape mid-practice without leaving the app.

SIMPLE, HONEST PRICING
Try Uku free, then unlock it once — no subscriptions, and every future update is included.

Uku doesn't need an account, doesn't track you, and doesn't get in your way. Just you, your ukulele, and the music.

## Version history (last 5 releases)

### 1.6 — 2026-10-10

New: Strumming Practice. Four common strumming patterns with a rhythm demo, adjustable tempo and your choice of chord — build a feel for it at your own pace.

• Added iPad support: a sidebar and two-column layouts in landscape, and a roomier layout in portrait
• New tuning quote cards: once all four strings are in tune, share today's musical moment — 30 quotes, picked at random
• Added French, including share cards
• Improved fonts and layout of share cards across languages
• Fixed the side menu still opening after the trial ended

### 1.5 — 2026-10-07

New: when you finish tuning, Uku can make a card for you to share with friends or save to Photos.

• The share button appears once all four strings are in tune
• The card's text follows the app's language, with different lines in rotation
• Added Thai and Brazilian Portuguese
• When a new version is out, a gentle note appears on the main screen so you can read what's new before you decide to update
• More reliable in-tune detection: when you move to another string, it has to settle again before it shows as in tune

### 1.4 — 2026-10-06

New: Chord Practice now comes in three levels, so you can move from essential chords to more variations step by step.

• Level 1: 12 basic major and minor chords
• Level 2: 18 seventh, sus2, and sus4 chords
• Level 3: 24 maj7, m7, 6, m6, and add9 chords

Play a chord and Uku moves on automatically when it hears it right — or skip it for now. After each round, review your results and retry the chords you skipped. Chord Practice works with standard GCEA and Low G tuning.

We've also refreshed the text, icons, and layout of Chord Practice and the Metronome so Uku feels more consistent.

### 1.3 — 2026-09-30

Version 1.2 extends the free trial from 1 day to 7 days, giving you more time to get a feel for real-time tuning and the metronome before you unlock Uku.

Also included: small stability improvements.

### 1.2 — 2026-09-29

Version 1.2 extends the free trial from 1 day to 7 days, giving you more time to get a feel for real-time tuning and the metronome before you unlock Uku.

Also included: small stability improvements.
